PEC: Excellent Service for 75 Years PEC is the largest distribution electric cooperative in the nation 253,000 accounts 21,000 miles of line 8,100-square-mile service area Founded in 1938 with the help of then- Congressman Lyndon B. Johnson Safe, reliable and low-cost energy services 24 Central Texas counties. PEC is renowned for its top-notch reliability and member service. The Cooperative is celebrating its 75 th anniversary this year.
PEC Supports Conservation, Renewable Resources Goal to achieve 30% renewable capacity in power portfolio by end of 2020 Goal of 20 percent growth offset by energy efficiency and demand side management by end of 2014 Renewable energy in power portfolio South Trent Wind Farm, LCRA
PEC Supports Conservation, Renewable Resources Corporate solar arrays Liberty Hill, Oak Hill Interconnection Policy net metering Solar leasing Marketing affiliation with NRG Residential Solar Solutions provides residential members with solar lease option
Solar Leasing NRG RSS Lowers upfront costs Additional avenue for member solar leasing No financial impact to membership as a whole
Summary of Leasing Terms Residential lease is a 20-year term PEC member is considered a customer of NRG Residential Solar Solutions NRG Residential Solar Solutions receives a monthly payment for the term of the lease (monthly lease) or an upfront, one-time payment (prepaid lease) Monthly lease requires a down payment; amount varies depending on system size and installation cost Other than payment amount and frequency of payment leases are identical No installation or design fees Customer receives the energy the system produces for the term of the lease according to PEC s standard interconnection policy Customer needs to meet NRG RSS credit and other underwriting criteria NRG RSS owns the solar system and retains renewable energy credits (RECs) and associated tax attributes NRG RSS insures the system, monitors the system and handles the maintenance/repairs At the end of the term, customer has the option to purchase the system, sign new lease for a new system or have NRG RSS remove the system NRG RSS provides a production warranty for the term of the lease
Rooftop Solar PV vs. Community Array Many rooftops are not ideal for solar Many residents rent no access to roofs Business owners often have no rooftop rights Adverse roof impact and maintenance
Opportunity Large Scale Solar PV Lower Cost & Higher Production
Community Solar is a unique form of Distributed Renewable Generation Simple, Affordable, Financeable. Blend of rooftop and utility-scale. Allows all members to participate. Behaves like rooftop solar PV. Enables large-scale adoption.
Solar Power for One and All PEC is EVALUATING: For PEC members, SolarCondos could provide all the benefits of large scale solar, combined with all the benefits of rooftop solar, but without the problems associated with rooftop. For PEC, SolarCondos could provide a viable solar option to customers, without any capital costs or long-term PPA.
PEC Enables Low Interest Loans Low interest energy saver loans partnership with Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union offers PEC members low interest loans for energy efficiency projects and Renewables
Future is Bright Locally, Nationally Intelligent, progressive systems now give us the opportunity to deliver energy more efficiently. PEC will be focusing on: Information Systems Web and app presence for Business and Outage Needs Grid Efficiency & Optimization of Resources Renewable Systems New Technologies Partnership in Meeting Household Energy Goals Partnership in the Local Communities we Serve
Co-ops Developing PV Plug and Play Program Objective: Five Year $9.1M Funding Program to Facilitate Plug & Play PV Voice For Cooperatives and all Utility Operators Reduce Solar Cost Streamline Integration
