2 Page 2 General Specifications Handling & Storage On job sites, care should be taken when handling painted surfaces during installation and storage to protect the finish. It is important that panels are kept dry. MOISTURE TRAPPED BETWEEN THE SHEETS MAY CAUSE SUPERFICIAL STAINING OR LIFTING OF THE FINISH. When material cannot be stored inside, place material on a slight incline and cover with a properly draped canvas or tarp that will allow airflow. Never use plastic, as it may cause condensation to accumulate. When lifting panels, always lift from panel edge, as panels will bow when lifted while flat. s may be shipped with protective film. IN THIS CASE FILM MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE INSTALLATION. Safety Precautions Protective heavy-duty gloves should be worn when handling metal panels and trim. Safety goggles and hearing protection should be worn while cutting or drilling panels. Extreme care should be used when walking, standing, sitting, or kneeling on a metal roof. They can be extremely slippery when wet. When walking on the roof panels, walk only on the flats. Traffic over the installed system must be kept to an absolute minimum. Installers should wear rubber sole shoes to keep from scuffing material while walking on the roof. Roofing Installation Sub-structures should be checked for uniformity and should be in good condition. If the roof is shingled, shingles should be removed. Roof should be swept, removing any flashing, debris, and nails. A minimum 3/12 slope is recommended. Substrate should be covered with a synthetic underlayment or 30# felt. Fold over gables and eave 1 to 2 inches. Ice and water shield should be used where required by code. It is important that in the installation of roof sheets the side laps should face away from the direction of the prevailing wind. Extra care should be given to the installation of the first sheet making sure it is as square as possible to the roof line. Sealants Silicone sealants are not recommended for painted panel applications. A good urethane caulk is preferred. Tape sealant should be used at any joints to assure weather tightness. Cutting s cannot be end lapped. s are best cut with power shears, nibblers, or tin snips. ALTHOUGH NOT RECOMMENDED, WHEN USING A POWER SAW PANELS MUST BE CUT FROM THE BACK SIDE. Hot filings should never come in contact with the painted surface of the panel being cut, or any panels nearby. Filings that become embedded in the paint may cause a rusting effect. They may be removed with car wax and a Oil Canning Flat surface areas in metal panels are subject to stress called oil canning. Uneven substrates, over tightened or under-driven fasteners, ripples or laps in vapor barriers, or debris under panels all can cause oil canning. Oil canning is not a cause for rejection of panels. (To minimize oil canning, especially in lighter gauges, panels should be striated.) Ventilation Sufficient air movement should be provided by means of a ridge vent, power operated fan, or other openings to minimize condensation.

3 Page 3 PAINT SPECIFICATIONS (SLR & Clip Loc II) For 24 gauge Fluropon by Valspar Fluropon exhibits H.B. minimum pencil hardness per ASTM Specular gloss per ASTM D 523, at 60 angle. Standard gloss is 25 to 40%. Bend adhesion per ASTM D No loss of adhesion when taped with #610 Scotch tape, on a 1T bend. (Performance may vary with pre-treatment and substrate.) No loss of adhesion after 1/8 mandrel bend per ASTM D 522. No paint removal over cross-hatched area per ASTM D Cure by solvent rubs, per ASTM D Will withstand 50 double rubs with MEK before exposure of primer. No checking, blistering or loss of adhesion after 3,000 hours of accelerated weathering. Test per ASTM D 822, G 151 and G 153. Color change per ASTM D 2244 no more than 2 NBS units after 2,000 hours in weatherometer testing. After 3,000 hours exposure in the weatherometer test, chalk rating no more that #8 per ASTM D 4214, Method A. Salt spray per ASTM B 117. No blistering and no loss of adhesion greater than 1/8 from score line after 1,000 hours. Humidity resistance per ASTM D No blistering, cracking, peeling, loss of gloss or softening of finish after 1,500 hours. Fire hazard per ASTM E 84. Flame spread rating of not more that 25 when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84. This qualifies as Class A/Class. (2 per panel for 12 & 3 per panel for 16 ) Tape Sealant Eave Trim Woodgrip Screw with Washer Notes: 1) Attach eave trim to roof deck with pancake head screws. 2) Install 3/8 tape sealer along top leg of eave trim. 3) Allow panel to overhang 1/2 to past eave trim. (Flush when using extended eave trim.) 4) Attach panel at eave with woodgrip screws with washer making sure screws are as close as possible to sealant. 5) SCREWS MUST BE PLACED IN END OF PANEL BEFORE NEXT PANEL IS INSTALLED. 15 Page 15 VENT PIPE ROOF PENETRATION Vent Pipe Apply Sealant Around Base and Collar Wood Grip Screw Rubber Roof Jack Available Sizes: #3 (1/4 to 4 O.D. Pipe) #4 (3 to 6 O.D. Pipe) #8 (7 to 13 O.D. Pipe) CAUTION: THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES ARE FOR VENT PIPES 6 OR LESS AND NOT TRANSMITTING EXTREMELY HOT OR CAUSTIC MATERIALS. WHEN INSTALLING VENT PIPES, ABIDE BY THE LOCAL PLUMBING CODES. Notes: 1) Determine the size and length of the vent pipe to be raised. 2) Take the appropriate measurements for the vent location and mark them on the panel. The vent pipe must extend through the flat of the roof panel. If the vent pipe extension cannot be raised directly into the flat of the new roof panel, elbows should be used to offset the pipe. Cut the panel to fit the vent pipe properly. 3) Use a light gauge angle to secure and plumb the vent pipe to the framing system. 4) Flash the vent pipe with a rubber roof jack or similar pipe flashing. 5) Apply sealant between the panel and the base of the rubber roof jack as well as the top where the boot meets the pipe. 6) Attach the base of the rubber roof jack to the panel using Woodgrip Screws.

16 CARE & MAINTENANCE Cleaning & Maintenance of Fluropon Coated Surfaces Valspar s Fluropon systems are similar in molecular structure to Teflon, a product most of us are familiar with through use in our households. Among the beneficial characteristics of our fluropon coating is that they are extremely inert. The molecules on the surface of the coating are so tightly bound together that they don t want to react to anything. Their slick surface helps make them resistant to many elements found in the environment such as air pollution, acid rain and general airborne dirt. However, if the need to clean or remove deposits from your coating does arise, a variety of methods for removal of surface deposits are available. Two precautions: (1) do not use wire brushes, abrasives, or similar cleaning tools which will mechanically abrade the coatings surface, and (2) certain cleaning agents listed below should be tested in an inconspicuous area before use on a large scale. HOT OR COLD DETERGENT SOLUTIONS A 5% solution in water of commonly used commercial and industrial detergents will not have any deleterious effect on fluropon surface. These solutions should be followed by an adequate rinse of water. Use cloth or soft bristle brush for application. SOLVENTS Most organic solvents are flammable and/or toxic, and must be handled accordingly. Keep away from open flames, sparks and electrical motors. Use adequate ventilation, protective clothing, and goggles. Solvent that may be used to remove non-water soluble deposits (examples: tar, grease, oil, paint, graffiti) for fluropon surfaces include: A. Alcohols Denatured alcohol (ethanol) Isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) Methanol (wood alcohol) Note: Methanol is toxic. The above alcohols have no permanent effect on fluropon surfaces. B. Petroleum Solvent and Turpentine VM & P Mineral spirits Kerosene Turpentine (wood or gum spirits) The above solvents have no permanent effect on fluropon surfaces. C. Aromatic and Chlorinated Xylol (Xylene) Totuol (Toluene) Perchlorethylene (Perclene) Tricholorethylene (Triclene) Note: Perchlorethylene and Tricholorethylene are toxic. The above solvents should be used with caution on fluropon surface. Limit contact of the fluropon surface with solvent to five minutes maximum and test before using. WARRANTY Misuse or abuse of any of the cleaning agents listed above will result in a voiding of warranty for the surface affected.
