Course focuses on techniques for qualitative analysis outside the parameters of any particular methodological tradition or epistemology and emphasizes experiential learning. Intellectual and Historical Foundations of Social Work Practice (SocW 500) Instructor, Autumn 2008 and 2009 First quarter MSW course introducing students to the intellectual, historical, and ethical foundations of the social work profession. Intensive and critical engagement with key concepts and primary theoretical frameworks, with crucial aspects of the profession s history, and with contemporary issues, problems, and directions. Concepts and Methods of Policy Analysis (SocW 561) Co-Instructor, Spring 2008 MSW course on concepts and applied practice of policy analysis and evaluation. Special attention to ways in which interests are represented in or excluded from the policy process and the implications of this for social rights and social justice. Advanced Social Welfare Research and Evaluation (SocW 506) Doctoral Teaching Practicum, Spring 2006 MSW course designed to strengthen knowledge and skills related to practicebased research. Covers issues of problem definition, research design, literature review, measurement selection for diverse populations, and quantitative data analysis. SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE EXPERIENCE Project Manager, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington Managed all aspects of NIH-funded research project that experimentally investigated women s reactions to acquaintance sexual assault and alcohol s effects on them. Supportive brief counseling and referral of distressed participants. Hired, trained, and supervised staff. Participated in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and preparing findings for presentation and publication. Sex Educator, Sex Information Line, Planned Parenthood of Western Washington, Seattle, Washington Educated and counseled callers about all aspects of human sexuality, including STIs/HIV, safer sex and risk reduction, sexual orientation, birth control, abortion, pregnancy, sexual dysfunction, sexual behaviors, intimacy, and relationships. (Volunteer position.) Contract Social Worker, Social Work Intern, September 1998 June 1999 Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress, Seattle, Washington Conducted individual, family and group therapy with survivors of sexual assault and other trauma; crisis intervention and support; medical and legal advocacy; case management. Used trauma-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and other therapy models; gained experience with psychosocial assessment and DSM-IV diagnosis.
