1 JOB TITLE : Dental Assistant 1. PURPOSE OF POSITION To provide support and assistance to dental therapist/dentists in clinical and administrative procedures to enhance clinic function, time and workload management. This position is based in the West Team based at Rangiatea Community Dental Clinic but will include time on the North Mobile Dental Unit and at Manukorihi Community Dental Clinic. 2. ACCOUNTABILITIES Key area of responsibility Clinical Support Provide clinical assistance to dental therapists or dentists Cross Infection Control Responsible for maintaining cross infection control in clinical areas Administration and Support Duties as required to enhance service delivery. Expected outcomes Chair side assistance takes place in a timely manner under the direction of the dental therapist/dentist. Work areas are set up with materials and instruments appropriate to the care to be provided. Charting of treatment on Titanium as requested by dental therapist/dentist. Dental materials are mixed in accordance with manufacturers instructions, suction is used effectively and other clinical assistance is provided as necessary. Radiographs are developed and assembled as required. Effective communication and assistance takes place with patient in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner. Instruments to be scrubbed to remove all debris prior to autoclaving. All surfaces are to be cleaned after each patient with the correct method and appropriate materials. Mandatory understanding and following of the NZ Dental Council Infection Control Guidelines and Taranaki DHB Infection Control protocols. Booking of patients on Titanium as directed by coordinator. Contact with schools to ensure all eligible school children are enrolled as directed by coordinator. Reminder phone call to parents/caregivers prior to patient appointments. Ensure that dental therapist /dentist has all necessary patient records for the patient appointment. Dental consumables in surgeries are maintained at the agreed levels. All resources are monitored and replaced using the agreed method as directed by the coordinator.
