Pursue knowledge to the greatest depths and its broadest horizons. To empower the descendants of Awanuiärangi and all Mäori to claim and develop their cultural heritage and to broaden and enhance their knowledge base so as to be able to face with confidence and dignity the challenges of the future. We commit ourselves to explore and define the depths of knowledge in Aotearoa, to enable us to re-enrich ourselves, to know who we are, to know where we came from and to claim our place in the future. We take this journey of discovery, of reclamation of sovereignty, establishing the equality of Mäori intellectual tradition alongside the knowledge base of others. Thus, we can stand proudly together with all people of the world. This is in part the dream and vision of Te Whare Wänanga o Awanuiärangi. 4

6 getting started Inside this booklet, you will find some basic information to get you started with Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi Online Services. On-site computer facilities Awanuiārangi provides computer facilities and Internet (Wi-Fi) connections oncampus in Whakatāne and at our main delivery sites (Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau). Computers are available on-campus/on-site for students on a shared basis. The software programmes needed for completing assignments and course-work are found on all workstations. Printers are available, and toner is provided. Students are to supply their own paper. Internet, webcams, audio and advanced graphics capabilities may not be available on all computers. Please ensure that you read the computer-use policy in the Awanuiārangi Student Handbook. Whakatāne Campus On the ground floor of the Sir Hirini Moko Mead Library you will find the Information Commons a student study area. The Information Commons has 40 computers available for student use, with full Internet access. You will need your login and password details to access these computers. There are 3 Study Rooms available in the Information Commons which can be used for quiet study and for group work. Two rooms have Smart TV capability, where you can watch videos, programmes and audio-visual material related to your study. Bookings are essential and can be made from the Library Information Desk. The Whare Rorohiko (Computer Suite) is located in Room 3, Te Tahinga o te Rā (Education Village, McAlister St). This is available to students 8.30am to 5pm. Please be aware this is also a classroom and not for general use when there are classes in progress. There are computers available for academic studies in Awhi Tauira Student Support (McAlister Street) from 8.30am to 5pm. Other times outside of these hours can be negotiated with Awhi Tauira Student support staff. 6 GETTING STARTED
7 Tāmaki Makaurau Site (Auckland) The Whare Rorohiko (Computer Suite) is located in the West Wind in Room T117. This is available to students for drop in use between 8.30am to 5pm as long as there are no classes being held in the lab. Alternative drop in spaces (with limited computers) Is a study area in the Wharekai, Room T118 and with Awhi Tauira, Room T110. Personal computers and mobile devices Awanuiārangi provides limited technical support for your personal computers and devices. We strongly suggest that you find a local IT specialist to help you with any issues you might be having on your personal computer or device. Maintaining your personal computer or device is your responsibility. Online services Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi provides enrolled students free access to several online services including ewānanga Learning Management System (LMS), and Microsoft Office 365. This booklet assists you with accessing these services. Further help is available online. Internet access To access our online services, you must have access to a reliable Internet connection and a computer or tablet. On-campus/on-site Internet access is provided free of charge to all fully enrolled students. You can ask any staff member in Awhi Tauira, the Library or reception if you need help connecting. You may even ask your pouako (lecturer) or course administrator for help. If you are not on-campus/on-site, we recommend using a home broadband or UFB connection. We do not recommend using mobile phone data for extended periods of time, as this may incur extra costs. It is advised that you contact your Internet Service Provider for any home broadband connection issues. Although most of our online services will work from an Internet Café or from your place of work, occasionally there are some restrictions in place that are beyond our control. Please contact the ewānanga Helpdesk if you are having problems accessing certain services from these places. You can also read more about troubleshooting common issues on page 22. GETTING STARTED 7
