1 Frequently Asked Questions Verified By Visa Frequently Asked Questions This section offers additional information and details about Verified By Visa. General questions Registration During Shopping Shopping with Verified By Visa Contact us Accessibility General questions What is Verified By Visa? How does Verified By Visa work? How does Verified By Visa protect me? What happens if I decline to register for Verified By Visa? Will I need to apply for a new card to use Verified By Visa? When will my account be debited for Verified By Visa purchases? Where can I shop with Verified By Visa? Do I have to pay for the Verified By Visa service? What happens when my Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card expires? What happens if I request a replacement card because my previous card was broken, lost or stolen? What are the system requirements for Verified By Visa? What is Verified By Visa? Verified By Visa is a free fraud prevention service that helps guard against unauthorised use of your Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card on the Internet. It allows you to add a personal security password, known as your Verified By Visa Password, to your existing Visa Debit Card which you then use to validate each online transaction. This helps to protect you from unauthorised use when shopping online as only you know the password you have chosen. How does Verified By Visa work? Verified By Visa is a bit like Chip and PIN for the Internet. When you register, you set a Verified By Visa Password that you keep secret, just like your PIN. Then, when you buy goods or services at any one of the 300,000+ participating retailers, you re prompted for your Verified By Visa Password to authorise that the card is yours and the purchase can go ahead. It gives you peace of mind because once you ve registered, if someone attempts to use your card fraudulently at any of these retailers, they won t be able to do it without your Verified By Visa Password.
2 How does Verified By Visa protect me? Since your card is protected by your personal Verified By Visa Password only you can use your card online at any one of the participating retailers. What happens if I decline to register for Verified By Visa? Verified By Visa is designed to combat fraud and protect your card details during online shopping. Consequently, should you decline to register for Verified By Visa you may not be able to proceed with your transaction on that occasion. Furthermore, until you register for Verified By Visa you will not be able to make online purchases from the many online retailers who participate in the Verified By Visa scheme. Will I need to apply for a new card to use Verified By Visa? No. You will be able to use your existing Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card. When will my account be debited for Verified By Visa purchases? There is no change to the processing of transactions and your account will be debited for Internet purchases just as it is now. Where can I shop with Verified By Visa? Over 300,000 online retailers are already part of Verified By Visa, and more online retailers are signing up. Most retailers using Verified By Visa will have information on their websites about the service, and where a retailer is signed up you ll automatically be directed to the Verified By Visa page when purchasing goods or services. Do I have to pay for the Verified By Visa service? No - Verified By Visa is a free service. What happens when my Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card expires? If your card expires and is renewed, it will be automatically re-registered for Verified By Visa for you. What happens if I request a replacement card because my previous card was broken, lost or stolen? You will need to register your new card for the Verified By Visa service. What are the system requirements for Verified By Visa? Verified By Visa requires the use of Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0 (including 6.0 on XP SP2), 7.0 and 8.0, Windows Netscape 7.2, AOL 9, Mozilla Firefox 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, Opera 9.5 and Macintosh Safari.
3 Registration During Shopping What is 'Registration During Shopping'? Why do I have to supply personal information during registration? I have more than one Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card. Can I use the same Verified By Visa Password for all my cards? What password should I choose? What is the Card Security Code? What do I do if I have problems during the registration process? What is 'Registration During Shopping'? As a Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card customer, we offer you the opportunity to register for Verified By Visa when you shop at participating online retailers. The registration process is simple and quick - all you have to do is enter a few identifying pieces of information, and set the personal Verified By Visa Password you will be using to verify your future purchases. Please make sure you read and agree to the Terms of Use, as registering for the service indicates you have done so. Why do I have to supply personal information during registration? The personal information you are supplying is used as a security measure to make sure you are the genuine cardholder. The information you supply is verified against the data stored in our Secure database and is not shared with the online retailer. I have more than one Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card. Can I use the same Verified By Visa Password for all my cards? Yes, if you so wish. When you register your Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card with Verified By Visa you will set a personal Verified By Visa Password. This Verified By Visa Password will be valid for the Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card that you have just registered; if you have more than one card you will need to register each individually, and you can if you wish choose the same Verified By Visa Password for each and every card as only you will know what this password is. What Password should I choose? You must select a Verified By Visa Password between 8-15 characters, which includes at least one number and one letter. You may not use a Verified By Visa Password that you have used in the past. We recommend that you select a Verified By Visa Password that will be easy for you to remember and difficult for others to guess. What is the Card Security Code (CVC2)? The Card Security Code (CVC2) is the last three digits that appear on the back of your card, on the signature panel. It is used as an extra security measure to make sure you are in the possession of the card you are registering, What do I do if I have problems during the registration process? You can contact us on our Bank of Ireland Visa Verified By Visa customer service line on , choosing Option 6. We will be happy to assist you with any problems and answer any questions you may have.
4 Shopping with Verified By Visa How do I shop with Verified By Visa? Where can I shop with Verified By Visa? What should I do if I purchase online but the Verified By Visa receipt does not appear? Can I continue to shop at online retailers that do not participate in the Verified By Visa service? I forgot my Verified By Visa Password. What should I do? How do I shop with Verified By Visa? When you shop online with your Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card, the Verified By Visa service will automatically appear during the checkout process at participating online retailers. You can then register and proceed with the purchase as described in What is 'Registration During Shopping'? Once you ve registered for Verified By Visa, the next time you are shopping online at a participating retailer you will be prompted for your Verified By Visa Password during the checkout process. The screen will show details of your current purchase, such as website name, purchase amount and date. You can then input your personal Verified By Visa Password and click 'Submit' to proceed with the purchase. Without your Verified By Visa Password the purchase cannot take place. Where can I shop with Verified By Visa? Over 300,000 online retailers are already a part of Verified By Visa, and more merchants are signing up all the time. If you ve registered for Verified By Visa but you don t see the password screen appear during the checkout process, it may mean that online retailer isn t yet taking part in Verified By Visa. What should I do if I purchase online but the Verified By Visa screen does not appear? Firstly, check to make sure that the card you used for the purchase is one that you have registered for the Verified By Visa service. Secondly, determine whether the online retailer is participating in Verified By Visa. Most participating retailers will display information about taking part in Verified By Visa, such as showing the MasterCard SecureCode and Verified By Visa logos. If the online retailer is participating and you are using the correct card, contact their customer service department to check their systems are working properly. If the online retailer isn t participating in Verified By Visa then you can continue with the transaction and do not have to enter your Verified By Visa Password. Can I continue to shop at online retailers that do not participate in the Verified By Visa service? Yes, however you will not be able to use Verified By Visa. To complete the purchase at such online retailers, simply follow the regular checkout process. I forgot my Verified By Visa Password. What should I do? If you forgot your Verified By Visa Password, select the Forgot your Verified By Visa Password link that appears during the Verified By Visa part of the checkout process. Enter the registration information requested on the screen and you will then be able to select a new Verified By Visa Password; remember, you will not be able to use a previous Verified By Visa Password and you should choose something memorable that cannot be guessed easily. If you encounter problems during this process please contact us on , choosing Option 6.
