1 ANIMAL HOUSING COMPANION ANIMAL HOSPITAL 1 POSITION DVM students preferred. Summer 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 7, 2015; up to 44 hours per week. Varied shifts; days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays as necessary. A part time appointment will continue through the school year to April 30, 2016 for suitable applicants. Individuals will be expected to be available for shifts during the 2015/2016 Christmas/New Year holiday break. $11.00 per hour with 4% vacation pay included bi weekly. Feed, clean and care for all animals housed in the OVC HSC wards. Assist with admission and discharge of animals when assigned. Clean and care for area hospital equipment in the animal holding areas as directed. Perform any additional related duties, as required. Does not include the treatment of animals. The successful candidate will exhibit a willingness to be cross trained in other areas of the Health Sciences Centre as well as non technical areas within the hospital. He/she may be assigned to work in a variety of service areas based on operational requirements. 2 WARDS/DI COMPANION ANIMAL HOSPITAL 1 POSITION Experience in the Companion Animal Clinic and/or with companion animals would be an asset. Phase 1 and Phase 2 DVM students with suitable experience will be considered. A cell phone is a requirement for this position. Summer 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 7, 2015: up to 44 hours per week. Varied shifts; days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays as necessary. Individuals will be expected to be available for shifts +on call during the 2015/2016 Christmas/New Year holiday season break. Student s time will be spent between the Companion Animal Wards and Diagnostic Imaging service areas and the incumbent may be required to work in other areas as necessary (i.e. ICU, Specialty Services). Wards duties include: TPRs, treatments, medications, walking, feeding, and cleaning patients. To train as a NEW to work with the I 131 cats. Assists and restrains patients for treatments and/or procedures, maintains patient medical records, stocks inventory, cleans, and maintains hospital equipment as required. This position provides general assistance and support to the technicians and radiologists in large and small animal radiology, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. Transports animals to and from diagnostic imaging and helps restrain and position them for sedation and monitoring vital signs of animals under sedation, assisting with restraint for ultrasound, processing digital images. Answering the telephone for the Companion Animal Medical Complex and relaying calls appropriately. Processing admissions and discharges. Reception of clients and visitors. 4 ANAESTHESIA COMPANION ANIMAL HOSPITAL 2 POSITIONS Experience in the Companion Animal Clinic and/or companion animal experience would be an asset. Preference will be given to Phase 2 DVM students with a background in anaesthesia. Cell phone, mandatory. Summer of 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 7, 2015; up to 44 hours per week. Varied shifts; days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays as necessary. A part time appointment will continue through the school year to April 30, 2016 for suitable applicants. Duties include assisting with patient restraint, pre medication, induction and monitoring of patients; record keeping, hospital equipment maintenance and cleaning; inventory management. Night and weekend on call is required. 5 DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING 2.0 POSITIONS Phase 1 and Phase 2 DVM students with suitable skills and experience with large and companion animals and radiology will be considered. 6 CLINIC ASSISTANT HILL S PET NUTRITION PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CENTRE OVC Smith Lane Animal Hospital 2.0 POSITIONS Experience in a veterinary clinic and/or with companion animals is required. Phase 1 and Phase 2 DVM students with suitable experience will be preferred. A protective rabies titre is mandatory. A cell phone is a requirement for these positions. The Clinic Assistant will assist with patient care, including treatments, walking, feeding, and cleaning patient animals; assist with patient restraint for treatments and/or procedures; unpack medical supply orders; and stock inventory supplies. In addition, the Clinic Assistant will assist in greeting clients in a professional and welcoming manner in person and on the telephone, scheduling appointments, and collecting and securing payments. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in coordination of special events; organizing activities for children s groups; providing tours, etc. and assisting with administrative tasks, special projects, and research. Summer 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 5, 2015; up to 44 hours per week. Varied shifts; days, nights, weekends as necessary. $11.00 per hour with 4% vacation pay included biweekly. 7 SURGERY COMPANION ANIMAL HOSPITAL & LARGE ANIMAL CLINIC 2 POSITIONS (rotating coverage for the 2 areas) DVM students experienced with large animals, and including OR practices and aseptic technique. Candidates for these positions are required to have a cell phone. Steel Toed boots or shoes also required. Candidates must be able to wear surgical attire including surgery masks for an extended period of time. Summer of 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 7, 2015; up to 44 hours per week. Varied shifts; days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays as necessary. A part time appointment will continue through the school year to April 30, 2015 for suitable applicants. Individuals will be expected to be available for shifts + on call during the 2015/2016 Christmas holiday break. On call requirement in both large animal and companion animal surgery. $11.00 per hour with 4% vacation pay included bi weekly. On call paid at $1.00 per hour; callin paid per hour at regular rate. Assists veterinary technicians in the companion and large animal surgery suites, with case set up and clean up, circulating during surgeries. Helps induce patients and performs surgical preps, maintains high standards of aseptic technique. Learns the care and use of equipment, recording case information, and billing appropriately. Assists in other areas of the OVC HSC as required. The successful candidates for these positions will rotate through the two areas, CAS and LAS, during the course of the summer, including surgery on call. Successful candidates will exhibit a willingness to be cross trained in other areas of the Health Sciences Centre as well as non technical areas within the hospital. 8 INTENSIVE CARE UNIT COMPANION ANIMAL HOSPITAL 8.0 POSITIONS Experience in the Companion Animal Clinic and/or emergency clinic experience would be an asset. Preference will be given to Phase 1 and Phase 2 DVM students, Students outside of the DVM program with suitable experience will be considered. Summer 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 7, 2015; up to 44 hours per week. Varied shifts; days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays as necessary. A part time appointment will continue through the school year to April 30, 2016 for suitable applicants. Individuals will be expected to be available for shifts during the 2015/2016 Christmas / New Year holiday season break. $11.00 per hour with 4% vacation pay included biweekly. On call paid at $1.00 per hour; call in paid per hour at regular rate. Students will be assigned to the Companion Animal Intensive Care Unit but may be required to work in other areas when necessary (i.e. Wards, Specialty Services). ICU and IMC duties include TPRs, treatments, medications, walking, feeding, and cleaning patients. Assisting and restraining patients for treatments and/or procedures, maintaining patient medical records. Inventory stocking, cleaning, and maintaining hospital equipment as required. 9 WARDS LARGE ANIMAL CLINIC 6 POSITIONS REQUIREMENTS Experience with large animals required and shift work would be an asset. Preference will be given to Phase 2 DVM students. Phase 1 students with suitable skills and experience will be considered. Protective rabies titre and steel toed footwear are mandatory. A cell phone is a requirement for this position. Summer of 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 7, 2015; up to 44 hours per week. Varied shifts; days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays as necessary. A part time appointment will continue through the school year to April 30, 2016 for suitable applicants. Individuals will be expected to be available for shifts during the 2015/2016 Christmas holiday break. $11.00 per hour with 4% vacation pay included bi weekly. On call paid at $1.00 per hour; call in paid per hour at regular rate. Students will be assigned to in Large Animal Wards, but may be required to work in other areas when necessary. Duties include treatments, stocking and cleaning of ward areas, assisting with emergency admissions and assisting with preparation of patients for surgery. 10 ONCOLOGY 1 POSITION REQUIREMENTS DVM students preferred. Summer 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 7, 2015; up to 44 hours per week. A part time appointment will continue through the school year to April 30, 2016 for suitable applicants. Individuals will be expected to be available for shifts during the 2015/2016 Christmas holiday break. $11.00 per hour with 4% vacation pay included bi weekly. Works with Clinicians (Faculty, Veterinarians, DVSc s and Interns) and Technicians in the Animal Cancer Centre of the OVC HSC. Duties include treatments, processing patient records and laboratory samples and caring for radiation and chemotherapy patients. This position provides an excellent opportunity for hands on experience with cancer management in small animals. Assist with admission and discharge of animals when assigned. Cleans and cares for area hospital equipment in the animal holding areas as directed. The successful candidate will exhibit a willingness to be cross trained in other areas of the HSC as well as non technical areas within the hospital. 12 MATERIALS MANAGEMENT 1 POSITION Experience working within an inventory and accounting environment; accurate record keeping using computerized inventory software and proficiency with MS Office applications. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to exercise tact and diplomacy are required. Heavy lifting is required in this role, with the requirement to lift 40+ kilos. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience within a hospital environment, current certification for handling dangerous goods; and current certification to operate a forklift. Summer 2015 April 27, 2015 to September 7, 2015; up to 35 hours per week.
