2 Certified Nursing Assistants(CNA) are, as defined by law: + people who assist licensed nursing personnel in the provision of nursing care. This is direct patient care. Certified Nursing Assistant authorized duties include:

8 You MUST be certified by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) within 4 months of assuming CNA duties. You will be eligible to take the (OSBN) certification examination upon successful completion of the Nursing Assistant course (Course work & clinical). You MUST pass the competency examination within three attempts and within two years of completing the training or you will be required to retake the course.

10 Nursing Assistant Course Outline Each class has a maximum cohort of 10 students Course includes 80 hours (approx. 10 (8 hr.) class days or 53 hours of online course work & 27 hrs. of Skills lab) and 75 hours clinical over 7-9 clinical days. Totally 155 course hours. The course includes a Mandatory review day, within in one month of completing the course, to successfully prepare our students for the state CNA 1 certification exam.

12 Applications WILL NOT BE REVIEWED until the end of the deadline, applications. Applicants will be notified by , within one week of the application deadline: Selected students will receive a Letter of Acceptance, which will includes further instructions. 14 You are required to show proof of having a (TB) Tuberculin Skin Test, with a negative result, reading date must be with one (1) year prior to the final day of the course you are applying to. A copy of your TB results must be included with the application

15 Copy of Reading Comprehension must be submitted with your application, you must place in RD80 or above.

16 If you are not a registered student at LBCC, you can take a placement test to find out where your scores are in reading. To placement test consists of three tests, $5.00 each. To apply for the Nursing Assistant course you will have to complete ONLY the reading test, which takes approximately 45 minutes. LBCC Student Assessment: For hours and more details, please call or visit their website for additional LBCC locations and contact numbers. You must register with the Assessment Center to insure a computer is ready for you. You will get your scores, right after you complete your test. Student Assessment will print out a copy of your results with your name and X number which you must be attached to your Nursing Assistant class application. You must receive a score of 47 or above to apply for a Nursing Assistant class. OR

17 Submit transcripts as an alternative to the placement test. Transcripts a college, other than LBCC, must be Official transcripts. Request them from that college, with instructions to mail directly to LBCC or to you. DO NOT OPEN THEM! when you receive the transcripts They must remain sealed envelope in the envelope stamped Official. Unofficial LBCC transcripts from your WebRunner account must have your legal name printed on the report.

18 The ONLY card that we can accept is the: Healthcare Provid er from the American Heart Association (Refer to example on next page). This card meets Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) requirements outlined on the following Webpage: Copy the front and back of your CPR card and submit with your application, you must signature it before copying.

22 FYI: Students who are completing the Nursing Assistant training in preparation for applying to the LBCC Nursing Program: One of the Minimum Applicant Requirements when applying for the LBCC Nursing Program, is that you must have successfully completed the entire Nursing Assistant training and be certified as a CNA, by the OSBN.
