2 Table of Contents Table of Contents 2 Market Update IDP Global Education Fair - Spring 2016 Date: 9(Sat.) 10(Sun.) April, 2016 IDP Global Education Fair - Fall 2016 Date: 22(Sat.) 23(Sun.) October,

3 Market Outlook 2016 South Korea is among the world s largest economies, ranked 11 th in 2015 GDP and ranked 13 th in purchasing power parity (PPP) in According to the Bank of Korea, the GDP growth in 2015 is forecasted as 2.4%, showing moderate growth due to the MERS issue, Greek default, China s stock market bubble, etc. However, education is an important driver as the country looks to a highly skilled work force to fuel the economic engine. Higher Education is central to South Korea s social structure; among those aged 25-34, 66% held a tertiary qualification, which is the highest share among OECD countries (OECD Average: 39%), with 1 st ranking for both men (62%) and women (69%), according to OECD Education At A Glance South Korea is consistently ranked among the Top 10 countries in world education rankings and the UN Education Index. Between 2000 and 2012, the % of South Koreans with a college education or higher rose from 24% to 42%, which is the 5 th highest among OECD countries (OECD Average : 32%) The share of private expenditure in Korea was also among the highest, especially at the tertiary level. 73% of spending on tertiary education came from private sources in 2011 (OECD Average : 31%). Total expenditure on educational institutions in Korea for all levels of education was the 3rd highest among OECD countries with about 8% of GDP in 2011(OECD Average : 6%) Koreans of all ages are keenly focused on improving their knowledge, skills, and expertise - particularly English language skills - to improve their chances in a competitive job market, where 83% of students continue on to Higher Education. Statistics released by the Education Ministry of South Korea showed that of the 227,126 South Korean students studying internationally, 63% pursued degrees and 37% pursued language studies. Degrees from Canadian institutions are well respected within South Korea and there is potential to increase the number of students enrolling in Canadian post-secondary programs, particularly in popular fields of study such as Engineering, Business, Hotel Management, Early Childhood Education, Health Profession (Nursing, Dental Hygiene), Culinary Arts, Design (Graphic, Web), etc. ESL is also popular in South Korea. Even though Korean students study English in schools, they feel the need to improve their speaking and listening ability overseas. Therefore, many Korean students opt to study English in major Canadian cities like Vancouver, Toronto, and Victoria. At the same time, they also recognize the value of cultural immersion. We look forward to working closely with you to promote and brand your institutions in the South Korean market in Shania Kim Country Manager / IDP South Korea - 3 -

4 Global Education Fair - Spring (Sat.) 10(Sun.) April, 2016 Cities: Seoul Objectives: Branding/profile, Lead generation and Conversion IDP Korea s event is a chance to promote the Canadian education brand as well as promote your schools and various programs to the potential students. In addition, institutional representatives will have the to engage in meaningful interactions with students in order to assist with achieving conversion. The April event is aimed at converting students for Fall 2016 Intake. We anticipate the following breakdown of students: 24% will be new leads/walk-ins students who will be exposed to the brand of participating institutions and receiving first-hand information on the day. 76% will be pre-counselled students who will be looking to receive a full/conditional offer letter by the institution representative at the event Event Visitor Profile Students seeking immigration opportunities in Canada. Most of these want to pursue a course major that confers an advantage in finding employment, thus leading to permanent residency. Programs of particular interest are Engineering, Business, Hotel Management, Early Childhood Education, Health Profession (Nursing, Dental Hygiene), Culinary Arts, Design (Graphic, Web), etc which have an advantage for immigration and getting permanent residency Students who have completed the Korean SAT exams in November and received their results. There will also be interest in ESL and pathway leading to degree programs The majority of students will be full-fee paying students with less than 5% seeking a scholarship Parents are the primary source of funding for their children s education and therefore are the key decision makers in both the course and location of their child s study High School Diploma holders seeking a full offer for Foundation, Diploma Pathway or University direct entry Undergraduate students from local Universities or the workplace looking for Master or Research programs Under graduate students from local universities or colleges who are not satisfied with their current schools or courses and want to transfer to schools outside of Korea Students with conditional offer letters looking for English pathway or long/ short term English study only Clients : Canada, Australia, US, UK, New Zealand Registration Deadline Dates Event booking closing date : Registration by Feb. 12,
