1 GRAD SURVEY SURVEY CONDUCTED: 2014 PARTICIPANTS GRADUATING YEAR: 2012 PUBLISHED: SEPTEMBER 2015 Ontario university graduates are getting well-paying jobs in their fields The latest Ontario government survey of graduates from undergraduate programs shows 94 per cent have secured employment two years after graduation. The average salary for university bachelor s degree graduates in full-time jobs was $49,001 two years after graduation, up from the average $42,301 six months after graduation. The survey of Ontario university students who graduated in 2012, conducted for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, concludes that university graduates get jobs related to their education. The best path to career success for Ontario students is still a university degree. EMPLOYMENT RATES Six months after graduation, the average employment rate for graduates of university undergraduate programs was 87.6 per cent. Two years after graduation, it rose to 93.6 per cent, with employment rates in many programs over 95 per cent. EARNINGS Six months after graduation, the average annual salary for graduates of undergraduate degree programs was $42,301. Two years after graduation, the average annual salary for graduates of undergraduate degree programs was $49,001. SKILLS MATCH Six months after graduation, 83.2 per cent of graduates employed to the skills developed at university. Two years after graduation, 89.1 per cent of graduates employed to the skills developed at university. SUBJECT MATTER MATCH Six months after graduation, 72.6 per cent of graduates employed to the subject matter of their program of study. Two years after graduation, 77.9 per cent of graduates employed to the subject matter of their program of study. In all, 76,625 students who graduated from undergraduate programs at Ontario universities in 2012 were surveyed, with 28,448 or 35.3 per cent responding. The annual survey was conducted by CCI Research Inc. between November 2014 and March 2015.

4 RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB AND SKILLS DEVELOPED AT UNIVERSITY, 2012 Survey results indicate skills developed by graduates of Ontario universities are being applied in the workplace. Six months after graduation in 2012, 83.2 per cent of respondents working full-time considered their work closely (50.4 per cent) or somewhat (32.8 per cent) related to the skills developed at university. Two years after graduation in 2012, 89.1 per cent of respondents working full-time considered their work closely (57.5 per cent) or somewhat (31.6 per cent) related to the skills developed at university. Over 97 per cent of respondents who graduated in professional programs reported that their work was closely or somewhat related to the skills developed at university two years after graduation. Approximately 87 per cent of respondents who graduated in humanities and social science programs reported that their work was closely or somewhat related to the skills developed at university two years after graduation. 5 RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB AND SUBJECT MATTER OF THE PROGRAM OF STUDY, 2012 Survey results indicate subject matter of the program of study acquired by graduates of Ontario universities are being applied in the workplace. Six months after graduation in 2012, 72.6 per cent of respondents working full-time considered their work closely (46.5 per cent) or somewhat (26.1 per cent) related to the subject matter of their program of study. Two years after graduation in 2012, 77.9 per cent of respondents working full-time considered their work closely (50.0 per cent) or somewhat (27.9 per cent) related to the subject matter of their program of study. About 95 per cent of respondents who graduated in professional programs reported that their work was closely or somewhat related to the subject matter of their program of study 2 years after graduation. About 73 per cent of respondents who graduated in humanities and social science programs reported that their work was closely or somewhat related to the subject matter of their program of study 2 years after graduation.
