Coastline Community College (CCC) General Information Coastline Community College is unique in that it serves many communities rather than being affiliated in only one. Founded in 1976, the fully accredited college offers classes at more than 60 sites located in coastal Orange County. In addition to class sites located in Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Seal Beach, and Westminster, many students take classes in their homes through telecourses. As a comprehensive college, Coastline offers transfer and A.A. degree programs, occupational certificates, and also serves the needs of adults needing English language skills and remedial education. Unlike other colleges, Coastline does not have a traditional campus. Instead, instruction is offered in nine different cities within the college service area, at approximately 60 sites close to students' homes and workplaces. These teaching sites include banks, senior centers, high schools, office buildings, shopping malls, and many other facilities. In addition to these sites, the College has main area learning centers based in Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, and Westminster. In 1997, the College opened a new center in Garden Grove which features the latest in technology, specialized labs, and large lecture facilities. Distance Learning courses fulfill degree requirements. Coastline offers a comprehensive selection of distance learning courses that allow you to meet nearly all the requirements for an Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree. Use your computer with an Internet account, such as Earth Link or America Online (AOL), to access the Coastline Distance Learning Web site. Course materials (lectures, video clips, sound files, images, site links, assignments, quizzes, instructor interaction, chat rooms) are featured on the Web site. Textbooks, possible multimedia materials and videos are part of the packet purchased for the course. Exams are conducted on-site or proctored for students unable to attend locally. Study independently using specially prepared course materials that include reading materials, textbooks, study guides, self-paced assignments and video materials. May also include CD-ROM multimedia materials, Internet access or lab kits. Interact with instructor via phone, FAX or , watch or listen to pre-recorded review sessions, mail in assignments and quizzes, and take on-site or proctored exams. Coastline is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.
