2 Preparing for Retirement Review the University System of GA Eligibility for Retirement policy Review your retirement account (s) and meet with the appropriate Retirement Counselor Review current Benefits Summary to make benefit decisions Request the Retirement Checklist and Information Packet from Human Resources Start the Retirement Checklist Process

3 Preparing for Retirement- ORP Members Contact ORP Vendors to determine options and process for the distribution of retirement funds. TIAA-CREF, Dean Yarbrough VALIC, Tyler Walsh, cell, office Fidelity, Karen Harrison,

4 Preparing for Retirement- TRS Members Complete TRS Application online at May be completed up to 6 months in advance. GPC Human Resources will submit the TRS-8 form on your behalf within. Complete the employee s section of the Sick Leave Certification form and submit to Kameka Houston in Human Resources.

5 Preparing for Retirement-Out of State Service Credit Apply 6 months in advance. Must be completed prior to retirement. Use tax sheltered monies to buy service as a direct rollover. Contact TRS at for an appointment with a retirement counselor. (optional)

6 Preparing for Retirement- Benefits Meet with Benefits Specialist, Kameka Houston. Do a benefits check up the year before retiring. Review benefits for options no longer needed or that will not be available in retirement.

7 What is the right medical plan? Will your lifestyle be changing? o o More time to exercise Strive towards wellness Will you be moving out of state? Will you be moving out of the country?

8 Medical Insurance You pay the same monthly premium as an active employee until you and your spouse reach age 65. You may not continue healthcare coverage under Blue Choice HMO at age 65. You will be required to elect another plan. If you move out-of-state, you may not continue healthcare coverage under the HMO plans. You will be required to elect another plan.

9 Medicare What you need to know at age 65

10 Medicare You (and your spouse) will automatically be enrolled in Medicare Part A at age 65. You may no longer contribute towards the health savings account. You may delay enrollment in Part B as an active employee until retirement. You must notify SSA at (800)

11 Medicare Any retiree and spouse who are 65 and older, must have Medicare Part B. USG healthcare plan will be secondary coverage only. You (and your spouse) must elect to be enrolled in Medicare Part B. Request enrollment forms from your local Social Security Administration or contact SSA at (800)

12 Medicare Part A Hospital Coverage o o o o In patient care Hospice care Critical care access hospitals (rural areas) Skilled nursing facilities (limitations) $0 cost to you o With 40 quarters earned under Social Security

13 Medicare Part B $Standard Monthly Premium is $ in o Higher for single income above $85,000 and married income above $170,000 Doctors services Diagnostic tests Outpatient hospital services Blood Durable medical equipment

14 Medicare Part D You must not enroll in Medicare Part D (for prescriptions) if you have USG/GPC health insurance. Prescriptions covered through USG/GPC health plans. Enrollment in Medicare Part D will cause USG/GPC health insurance to be cancelled!

15 Dental and Vision Insurance Plan design and monthly premiums will remain the same as active employees. These plans are 100% employee sponsored.

16 Life Insurance Basic Life coverage remain at $25,000 at no cost to you. May carry $15,000 supplemental life coverage into retirement. Rates based on age. May carry $ 5,000 spouse life coverage into retirement. May carry $5,000 child life coverage into retirement for dependents up to age 26.

17 Maintaining Your Retiree Benefits Register for Benedirect after retirement. o Add or change ACH information. Benefits premiums deducted from account on 7 th day of the month. Review premium amounts and transactions. Keep username and password handy. Update your life beneficiary as needed.

18 Other important benefits to consider Keeping your Ducks in a Row

19 Disability Insurance Disability insurance replaces income when employee is unable to work due to illness or injury. Not available upon retirement.

20 Other Benefits Long-term care continues after retirement. Continue direct payment. Traveler s home and automobile insurance continues after retirement. Continue direct payment. Critical Illness Plan may be converted to a private policy within 31 days from the your retirement date.

21 403 (b) and/or 457 (b) Retirement Plans Employees may not contribute to tax sheltered annuities after retirement. Employees must start withdrawing funds from tax sheltered annuities by age 70 ½ in order to avoid incurring penalties.

22 Retiree Open Enrollment Will receive retiree open enrollment package each fall. Information may also be found online on USG Human Resources website and GPC Human Resources website. All changes or updates must be made through the ADP portal during the open enrollment period.

23 Rehired Retirees Must wait 30 days before can return as a part-time employee. Employment as a rehired retiree must be approved by TRS. Work with Tonya Andrews to complete rehire paperwork (if faculty). May not earn more than 49% of prior income in any month.

24 GPC Retiree Engagement GPC retiree J-Card and parking sticker. Access to GPC libraries, Fine Arts events, sports events. GPC Retiree Association -Help maintain communication with the College. -Promote fellowship amongst retirees. - Share information about issues relevant to retirees. -Provide access to avenues to support the College. -Website: About GPC, Retiree Association
