2 BRS AWARDED GRANTS FOR REHAB OF GRANDVIEW MANOR APARTMENTS Blue River Services, Inc. (BRS) has obtained public and private grant funding to rehab the Grandview Manor Apartments in Salem that was built in the 1970s. BRS was awarded a $7,500 grant from Old National Bank for the rehab of the facility. The Washington County Community Foundation award the agency $4,886 to be utilized for furnishings for the community room at Grandview Manor South. In addition the agency will obtain a permanent loan from Old National Bank for the housing project. BRS intends to purchase the apartment complex from current owners, Temple, Temple & Armstrong LLC. Grandview Manor South contains 24 apartments that rent to seniors 62 and older and persons with disabilities. BRS has developed several affordable housing complexes in Harrison County and is eager to provide affordable housing in Washington County. The agency desire is to keep this housing affordable for the foreseeable future for these vulnerable populations. Plans are to close on the property in November 2015 with rehab beginning early next year. Rehab includes new kitchen and bathroom appliances, new carpeting, new windows and doors, increasing the size and capacity of the laundry room and covered porches, if funding allows. BRS is planning to apply for funding for a part-time Service Coordinator for the tenants to help them obtain assistance with maintaining their housing at Grandview. For information on Grandview Manor South Apartments, call Blue River Housing Office at (812) RETIREMENT RESEARCH FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO BRS The Retirement Research Foundation has awarded Blue River Services a grant to support a part-time Service Coordinator for the Country Trace Senior Housing complex in Palmyra. The Service Coordinator will educate and advise tenants regarding resources available to assist with the supports needed to continue to live independently in their own home. There are many services provided by Blue River Services and other local service providers to assist seniors residing at Country Trace, including public transportation, In-Home Services, Home Health care services, Meals on Wheels, mental health counseling and financial assistance with utilities. The Service Coordinator will assist tenants in enrolling and applying for these services as well as how to access services provided by other organizations in the community. Plans are to have the Service Coordinator on site at Country Trace Apartments beginning in October. 3 HCCF AWARDS GRANT FOR HABILITATION EQUIPMENT Blue River Services, Inc. is pleased to announce they have been awarded a grant of $4,170 from the Harrison County Community Foundation to purchase equipment that will promote physical activity and learning opportunities for Blue River Services Habilitation service recipients in Harrison County. The Habilitation Program provides training to adults with various developmental and physical disabilities. Participants in the program work on a variety of skills including daily living skills, socialization, and leisure activities as well as teaching self-advocacy. Staff member Charla Levell assisting Ben Weston This generous award from the Harrison County Community Foundation will provide funding to purchase a small greenhouse, cookware, exercise equipment, and recreational equipment for clients participating in the habilitation programs at the Corydon and Palmyra facilities.
