1 An introduction to the SiteMinder Content Management System The Digital Revolutionaries v.1 May 2008
2 Overview SiteMinder developed in-house by the Digital Revolutionaries Designed specifically for the NGO and not-for-profit sector Allows for web content to be added and edited using any web browser Knowledge of HTML not required
3 System requirements Works on Mac or PC Has been tested with Internet Explorer v.6 and v.7, FireFox v.2, and Safari Requires the installation of the Xstandard WYSIWYG (what-yousee-is-what-you-get) Editing Tool A broadband quality internet connection is required
4 Key features Code generated is fully compliant XHMTL 1.0 Requires the user to comply with accessibility requirements Allows for the uploading of images and files Generates search engine friendly urls
5 Login screen Can be found at: Note the / at the end, this is required Username is usually your address
6 Administration home System logout Inactivity auto-logout timer Access rights will vary for users
7 ImageMinder Allows for the easy uploading of images Images are automatically resized for web use Up to five different sizes are generated Can accept GIF, JPEG, BMP, and PNG formats Can take at least 1 minute per MB to upload Users should try to ensure that source images are 2MB or less

10 ImageMinder add details Link to admin home Link to ImageMinder main screen Image title used in dropdown menus throughout SiteMinder to indentify image Image caption displayed on website so care should be taken when entering text Tags are essentially keywords which help identify and group similar images Click to save changes Click to return to ImageMinder main screen without saving any changes
11 FileMinder Allows for the easy uploading of files Can accept PDF, RTF, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel formats Will automatically generate cover image for (most) PDF files

13 FileMinder upload file Link to admin home Link to ImageMinder main screen Click to select a file from your hard drive The filename this should be lowercase alpha-numeric (i.e. no spaces or odd characters) it is automatically generated and generally should not be edited File title this is used to identify the file in dropdown menus throughout the SiteMinder CMS File description if the file is added to the publications database this description is copied across as the publication summary Click to upload file
14 SiteMinder The SiteMinder module defines the structure of the website Navigation text, headings, and body text for all site sections can be added and edited using this module Other modules (i.e. news module) can be linked to site sections using the SiteMinder module
15 SiteMinder main screen Link to admin home Link to SiteMinder main screen Click to add new section Primary, secondary, tertiary etc refers to the site navigation hierarchy as defined by the site design Use the arrows to change the sort order for sections Click the edit icon to edit that section A green arrow indicates that this section has subsections, click the arrow to view the subsections Click the section title to edit that section Inactive sections are removed from the site navigation and cannot be accessed The Nav Menu option allows for sections to be removed from the site navigation but they still can be accessed useful for internal testing The Default option only applies to top level sections with subsections, if set to false it means that the first sub-section will show (i.e.content within the top-level section does NOT show) Click the delete icon to delete that section, sections with sub-sections cannot be deleted, be careful there is no undo
16 Standard/Custom Module Modules are used to administer groups of similar data Used when it would be impractical to enter the data into the SiteMinder database Classic example is the news module, enter the new item once but then it can be displayed on many different pages Standard modules are common to many clients Custom modules are developed specifically for a particular client Admin pages for these modules have a similar look and feel
17 Standard/Custom Module main page Link to admin home Link to module main screen Click to add new record Search looks in all text fields Initial sort order is customised for the module, click on the heading to sort by that field Click on title to edit the record Click the edit icon to edit the record Click the delete icon to delete the record, be careful there is no undo
18 Xstandard Editing Tool The Xstandard editing tool is used throughout the SiteMinder CMS to enable editing of text without having to know HTML HTML generated by this tool is fully compliant with current coding and accessibility standards It is a piece of software that works within your web browser and needs to be installed once on each PC Complete documentation for the tool can be accessed at: Note: not all options referred to in the documentation are available
