This curse cnsists f classes designed t give the student mre knwledge f fire grund situatins s that he/she can make basic evaluatins f safety prblems and assume leadership rles in carrying ut interir attack and search peratins. First respnders at the awareness level are expected t recgnize the presence f hazardus materials, prtect themselves, secure the area, and call fr trained persnnel. At the peratinal level, the first respnder uses the knwledge gained frm the awareness level t act in a defensive psture t prtect peple, the envirnment, r prperty frm the effects f an unplanned hazardus materials release. This curse meets the requirements f the mandatry Awareness/Operatinal training in hazardus materials required by NFPA 472, Standard n Prfessinal Cmpetence f Respnders t Hazardus Materials Incidents 2008 editin. 3 2 Day Curse Descriptins Emergency Respnse t Alternative Fueled Vehicles Cst: $60 (Pre-Registratin) r $70 after 9/24 Instructr: WVU Staff Pre Requisites: Aut Extricatin Operatins r Basic Aut Extricatin This training prgram will prvide fire, emergency medical, and law enfrcement persnnel infrmatin fr each f the alternative fuel technlgies available s that they can make infrmed decisins at the scene f a vehicle emergency. Each department in attendance will receive an emergency respnse guidebk fr dealing with alternative fueled vehicles. VFIS Emergency Vehicle Operatrs Curse Cst: $60 (Pre-Registratin) r $70 after 9/24 Instructr: Thmas Miller, Sissnville (SMPG) Vlunteer Fire Department Pre Requisites: Valid Driver s License The curse is a cmbinatin classrm and practical skills training abut emergency vehicle peratins. Safety, legal aspects, inspectin, and driver s respnsibilities are cvered. Bth written and practical examinatins are administered. This class meets the WV State Fire Cmmissin and State EMS initial driver training requirements/recmmendatins. It is recmmended that participants have apparatus frm their department available fr driving practical s Natinal Fire Academy EMS: Management and Functins fr Cmpany Officers Cst: $60 (Pre-Registratin) r $70 after 9/24 Instructr: Natinal Fire Academy Instructr Pre Requisite: EMT-Basic (Recmmended) This curse fcuses n supervisry management practices fr EMS respnse agencies. Leadership/Management, planning and time management, team building, persnnel and resurce management, cmmunicatins, and public relatins are sme f the cmpnents cvered in this new curse. Upn cmpletin, the student will have basic skills and tls needed t effectively manage the daily activities f an EMS system. Advanced Structural Firefighter Cst: $60 (Pre-Registratin) r $70 after 9/24 Instructr: Asst. Chief Gerge Stump, Buckhannn Fire Department Pre Requisite: Firefighter I, Student must meet NFPA 1500 Facial Hair Requirement Special Equipment: Full PPE, SCBA, and Spare Bttle This curse prvides advanced training n Search and Rescue, Fire Attack, Ladders, and Frcible Entry. Crews will be engaged in scenari based training t develp skill that will help build understanding f building cnstructin, fire behavir, and the anatmy f fires invlving single family dwellings.

4 ITLS (Internatinal Trauma Life Supprt) fr EMT B and Paramedics Cst: $85 (Pre-Registratin) r $95 after 9/24 Instructr: Air Evac Lifeteam Pre Requisites: EMT B r EMT P Special Equipment: Students must prvide their wn text, laner bks will be available ITLS Basic - Designed fr the EMT-Basic and First Respnder, this hands-n training curse ffers basic EMS prviders cmplete training in the skills necessary fr rapid assessment, resuscitatin, stabilizatin and transprtatin f the trauma patient. The curse prvides educatin in the initial evaluatin and stabilizatin f the trauma patient. ITLS Advanced - This cmprehensive curse cvers the skills necessary fr rapid assessment, resuscitatin, stabilizatin, and transprtatin f the trauma patient fr advanced EMT, paramedic and trauma nurse. The curse teaches the crrect sequence f evaluatin and the techniques f critical interventin, resuscitatin and packaging a patient. Wilderness Search and Rescue fr the Initial Respnder Cst: $60 (Pre-Registratin) r $70 after 9/24 Instructr: Chief Dern Wilkes, Shavers Frk Fire & Rescue, Snwshe WV Pre Requisite: Nne Designed fr fire department, ems, law enfrcement, park staff, and ther emergency respnse persnnel wh may be the initial respnder t a lst persn incident. The bjective is t prvide individuals with the need knwledge and skills t evaluate an incident and t take apprpriate initial actins. The basics f lst persn behavir, search planning and tactical peratins are presented. Specialized resurces and their apprpriate use are discussed. This class is designed fr instructrs, fire fficers, and firefighters wh assist in training peratins at respective departments. Students will engage in varius nline mdules as well as view practical applicatin during the fire schl. Each department in attendance will receive (2) free nline curse managers and text bks fr blended learning training fr their department fr future training sessins hsted by WVU. Emergency Respnse t Natural Gas Incidents (SUNDAY) Cst: $25 (Pre-Registratin) r $40 after 9/24 Instructr: WVU Staff and Industrial Representatives Pre Requisite: Nne This curse will cntain an verview f West Virginia s Natural Gas Industry. Participants will discuss cmmunicatin at emergency sites, evaluatin f the natural gas emergency, respnding t prductin sites, respnse t drilling sites, and general strategies and tactics t prvide a safe and efficient utcme in this evergrwing industry. Wilderness Self-Reliance Skills Cst: $25 (Pre-Registratin) r $40 after 9/24 Instructr: Chief Dern Wilkes, Shavers Frk Fire & Rescue, Snwshe WV Pre Requisite: Nne This curse will be an intrductin t basic self-reliance skills fr individuals wh may find themselves having t spend an unexpected night-ut because f an injury, getting lst r mechanical breakdwn while ATVing. We will discuss and practice and practice several tpics including: Therm-regulatin, fire making, and prcuring water.
