The students will be provided with the techniques to raise questions and explore for answers from different perspectives while studying individuals, communities, countries and the world. The diversity and individualistic essence of studying history gives the students enough room to explore the most ancient part of the world and analyse the most contemporary aspect of the world, this makes history students realize that the past as well as the present can be historically studied The history programme introduces students to historical issues that are pertinent to contemporary life and also helps students to nurture the skills of historical analysis, critical examination and research while studying historical events presented in different ways by historians. The History programme is designed to help students acquire the aptitude to read and interpret the key fundamentals and ideas of history. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of history, the students will find the application of historical methodology very efficient while researching on topics of their interest, prepare for postgraduate studies and take up employment in various government and private sectors. The holistic approach of history enables students to apply the humanistic approach of history in shaping their livelihood as better citizens and human beings. 3. Specific Objectives of the BA History (Three Years) Programme: The BA History (Three Years) Programme would produce graduates who are able to:

2 Describe the various events of both Bhutan history and world history Identify different perceptive of the socio-political and economic patterns of the world Use historical knowledge to interpret contemporary issues of the world Demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate effectively by using historical knowledge Express oral and written explanations of historical interpretations Apply historical research skills while doing research Critically analyse the historical issues of the world through constructive debates Identify the socio-economic and political history of Bhutan Justify importance of religious and cultural history of Bhutan Practice independent learning 4. Specific Objectives of the BA Honours in History Programme: The BA History (Honours) Programme would produce graduates who are able to: Critically evaluate socio-economic development of South East and South Asia Analyse the historical factors for the success of Japanese economy in the 19 th and 20 th century Critically examine the historical interpretation of economy of the world Trace the religious development in Bhutan and compare it with the development of other religions in the world Distinguish both primary and secondary historical sources and use each appropriately in carrying out independent research Demonstrate a significant degree of knowledge about the history of the World Read and analyse scholarly works for logical arguments and historiographical context Ask and respond critically to historical issues that demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the discipline Write a research paper that conform to the current professional practices of the discipline Apply the necessary theoretical knowledge while doing research 5. Entrance Requirement Programme Eligibility Criteria Ability Rating Points Bachelor of Arts in History and Dzongkha (For BHSCE- Arts students) Class XII pass students with a minimum of 60% in History and 60% in Dzongkha and 55% in English (For Language and Culture Studies (LCS)): Class XII pass with minimum of 60% in History, 55% in English and 55% aggregate in: Sumtag, Nyengag, Choenjug, Dazhung/Dzongkha. Teaching and Learning Approach Five modules will be administered per semester (i.e. 60 credits). Teaching and learning strategies would include lectures, class discussions, class presentations, assignments, discovery learning, project work, comparative studies, case studies, critical inquiries and analysis. After the first year, the lecturer will be more of a facilitator or guide for the students. The students are expected to become independent students to acquire intellectual independence. Students will be encouraged to think more broadly, deeply and independently through approaches such as seminars, critical analysis, project, debates, workshops and presentations. The students will also assisted in learning how to work in groups apart from working individually, they will learn how to submit reports, essay, reviews and select research topics. Furthermore the students will also be learning how to asses themselves and their peers. These approaches will be used to insure that the students inculcate self learning rather than depending wholly on class room lectures. 8. Assessment History programme at Sherubtse College has incorporated a variety of assessment methods that allows students to demonstrate the learning outcomes of the programme as the students progress into the succeeding year. Each level reflects a different weight so as to bring out the desired learning outcome.

5 Assessment is by a combination of course work and end of semester exams. Continuous assessment will include assignments, presentations, class tests, project work, seminars, class participation and attendance. Though the assessment approach will be consistent and, as far as possible, uniform, the assessment weighting will be different and progressive as the students pass into the succeeding year and depending on the module. The first year emphasizes on assessing the students on works that will mostly be guided by the lecturer but after the second year the methods used will focus on works done by the students independently and in groups 9.
