OVERVIEW... 2 HARDWARE... 2 CONTROL... 3 OPERATIONAL SEQUENCE... 4 EXITING SMARTS

Overview These instruments have been programmed for continuos filling alternating between two scales. The instrumentation used is a standard VMC 505 SMARTS controller. Hardware 1) Controllers a) PC104 compliant controller with onboard A/D, serial communications and control interface. 2) Displays a) Graphic/alphanumeric back lit LCD display divided into one large numeric weight display and three alphanumeric prompt displays. 3) Keypad a) Five predefined F control keys and 12 numeric data entry keys. 4) Front Panel Controls (MASTER ONLY) a) Start: Start product fill cycle. b) Stop: Stop product fill cycle. 5) Control Outputs: Two Dry Contact Outputs.(ONE IN EACH ENCLOSURE) a) Feed Cut Off: Final cut off at desired product weight. 6) Inputs a) None 7) Power a) VAC auto sensing 8) Battery Backup of configuration and in process values. 9) Enclosures: 2

a) 8x10x4 mild steel NEMA 12. Control 1) Set Up a) Set up and control information will be entered via a numeric keypad with direct entry or menu driven methods. i) Setup Target Weight Information: (1) Press F10 on the numeric keypad (a) Enter the slow feed cut off weight value: Final cut off weight (final target). (b) Enter the fast feed cut off weight value: Weight before final cut off when slow feed is to begin. Enter 0 if unused. (c) Enter the preact weight value: Slow feed value minus preact value = final cut off value. This is used to compensate for shut off delays and product in suspension. If auto preact is enabled this value will change as preact is tracked. ii) Timer and Option Configuration: (1) Press F9 on the numeric keypad. (a) Enter the calibration password. (b) Enter the decimal location: This is the location the decimal point will appear for weight oriented setup information. Usually the same as the displayed weight decimal location. (c) Enable auto tare: Enter a 0 to disable or a 1 to enable auto tare before fill. (d) Enter the tare tolerance: This is the amount of weight after tare the system will accept before a fill sequence will continue. (Only applicable if auto tare is enabled) (e) Enter the tare maximum: This is the maximum amount of weight than can be zeroed by tare. (f) Enter the tare delay: This is the amount of time the weight will be allowed to stabilize within the zero tolerance before an auto tare is re-initiated. (Only applicable if auto tare is enabled) 3

(g) Enter Max Zero Tol. This is the maximum weight of an empty container. (h) Enter Min Zero Tol. This is the minimum weight of an empty container (i) Enter the Motion Tolerance: This is the amount of motion entered in ¼ division increments that is acceptable for printing or accumulation. Operational Sequence 1) Configure control options if not previously configured. 2) Enter the setup information if not previously entered. 3) The display will prompt READY : 4) Place an empty container on scales A and B. 5) Press the Start push button to begin the fill sequence. 6) Scale A will auto tare. 7) The feed output for scale A is energized. The cut off remains energized until the final target weight less preact is reached. 8) If auto preact is enabled auto preact adjustment takes place. 9) Scale B will auto tare. 10) The feed output for scale B is energized. The cut off remains energized until the final target is reached. 11) While scale B is feeding remove the full container from scale A and place an empty one. 12) The sequence repeats from step 6. 13) While scale A is feeding remove the full container from scale B and place an empty one. 14) If full containers are left on the scales the system will halt and prompt REMOVE BOX. 15) If empty containers are not placed on the scales the system will halt and prompt PLACE BOX. 16) Pressing stop at any point in the fill sequence will pause the fill sequence. The display will prompt START=RESUME F4=ABORT. To resume fill press START to abort press F4. 4

Exiting SMARTS 1) Press F6 on the numeric keypad. 2) Enter the calibration password. 3) Press enter 5
