2 AACC AFFILIATED COUNCIL ANNUAL REPORT Under the guidelines established by the AACC Board of Directors, each AACC- Affiliated Council is required to submit an annual report by August 15 of each year. The report should cover the period July 1 - June 30, which is the Board approved reporting year. Please provide all information requested. Failure to submit a complete report by the due date may result in withdrawal of affiliation. Information about activities will be posted on the AACC Web site. Reports will be made available to the Board Liaison and Staff Contact for each Council. NATYCAA NEWS ON-LINE PUBLISHED THREE TIMES PER YEAR Statement of Affiliated Council s Purpose and Goals Please include a statement of the overall purpose and goals of this Council/Organization. The guidelines for affiliation require that a Council s bylaws support the purposes and objectives of AACC. ESTABLISHED IN 1987, NATYCAA IS THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION THAT REPRESENTS THE ATHLETIC PROGRAMS AND ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATORS OF ALL TWO-YEAR INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE UNITED STATES. THE ORGANIZATION IS DEDICATED TO THE CONTINUING GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF TWO- YEAR COLLEGE ATHLETICS AND THE INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED THROUGH: THE EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION, MONITORING OF LEGISLATION, PROMOTION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, INCREASING OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ORGANIZATIONS, AND ENCOURAGING A HIGH DEGREE OF INTEGRITY IN ALL ENDEAVORS. This information will be photocopied and shared with all AACC Councils, and Board and Staff Contacts. -NATYCAA S NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MET AT THE HILTON HOTEL IN MARCO ISLAND, FLORIDA FROM JANUARY 24-27, THE GROUP TRANSACTED MID-YEAR ASSOCIATION BUSINESS AND PLANNED FOR THE 2014 ANNUAL CONVENTION WHICH WAS HELD IN ORLANDO FLORIDA JUNE 8-10, THE 27TH ANNUAL NATYCAA CONVENTION WAS HELD AT THE MARRIOTT WORLD CENTER HOTEL IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA JUNE 8-10, THE GENERAL SESSIONS WERE KICKED OFF BY AN OUTSTANDING KEYNOTE PRESENTATION BY JUDY ROSE, DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS, UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA-CHARLOTTE. JUDY S ADDRESS HIGHLIGHTED THE CONVENTION THEME OF MAKE IT MATTER. -A HIGHLIGHT OF THE CONVENTION WAS THE ANNUAL NATYCAA AWARDS LUNCHEON. THREE NEW MEMBERS OF THE NATYCAA HALL-OF-FAME WERE INDUCTED AT THIS YEAR S LUNCHEON: MIKE JACOBSEN, UTAH VALLEY STATE COLLEGE, BOB MYERS, SOLANO COLLEGE AND JOHN VOLEK, SIERRA COLLEGE WERE OUR NEW INDUCTEES. OUR AWARDS LUNCHEON WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE NACDA PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI, MIKE ALDEN BE OUR FEATURED SPEAKER. -BOBBY BOWMAN, RETIRED DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS FROM PASCO HERNANDO COMMUNITY COLLEGE, FLORIDA WAS THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2014 L. WILLIAM MILLER AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO NATYCAA AND TWO-YEAR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATION IN GENERAL. -THE 11TH ANNUAL NATIONAL ALL-SPORTS AWARDS FOR TWO-YEAR COLLEGES (THE NATYCAA CUP) WERE PRESENTED TO: NJCAA SCHOLARSHIP DIVISION-IOWA WESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE, NJCAA NON-SCHOLARSHIP DIVISION-HERKIMER COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND STATE ASSOCIATIONS DIVISION-MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE. IOWA WESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE WON THE THIRD EVER LEARFIELD SPORTS DIRECTORS CUP FOR TWO-YEAR COLLEGES AWARD SPONSORED BY LEARFIELD SPORTS AND NACDA. -OTHER PRESENTATION TOPICS INCLUDED: MAKING OUR STUDENT ATHLETES MORE TRANSFERABLE, DEVELOPING A PLAN TO RECOGNIZE AND REFER STUDENT ATHLETES WITH PYSCHOLOGICAL CONCERNS, AAA CONNECTIONS CAN MAKE IT MATTER, VALIDATING OUR BUSINESS-WHY ARE WE HERE? WHY ARE WE DOING?, BEST PRACTICES IN SPORTS MEDICINE FOR THE TREATMENT OF CONCUSSIONS, ANTI-HAZING PROGRAMS FOR COACHES, STUDENT ATHLETES, ADMINISTRATORS, EDUCATORS AND PARENTS, EMERGING ISSUES UNDER TITLE IX- DISABILITY ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSGENDER ATHLETES, AND SETTING UP A STRUCTURE FOR SUCCESSFUL FUND RAISING ON A LIMITED BUDGET AND MAKING IT WORK.
