3 Financial Support for Adults As an adult learner there is lots of financial support available to help you return to study. Financial support available for Entry Level to Level 4 learners: Depending on your circumstances you may be entitled to free or reduced course fees. You can apply for a bursary to help with the costs associated with participation whilst attending College, including for example, travel, child care, books and food. As each person s financial and family situation is different we recommend that you visit our specialist team sited in Info+ in the Broad Oak Centre so that we can maximise the support available to you and help you complete any forms required. 4 24+ Aged 24 or over on the first day of your course 2015/ 2016 ADVANCED LEARNING LOAN AGED 24 OR OVER AND THINKING ABOUT FURTHER EDUCATION? All students aged 24 or over and studying a Level 3 or Level 4 qualification are now required to pay course fees, but a loan is available. 3 L3 L4 A resident in the UK for three years prior to the start of your course Enrolling on a course at Level 3 or 4, such as Access to Higher Education, Diplomas and Certificates. KEY FACTS ABOUT 24+ LOAN REPAYMENTS Repayment will only start when you have finished your qualification and you are earning more than 21,000 per year. Repayment of loans is through the tax system; first repayments will commence in April 2017 in line with changes to HE repayments. Repayments are at 9% of income above 21,000 irrespective of the amount of the loan you have taken out. Interest rates are variable based on income up to a maximum of RPI+3% for incomes above 41,000. Outstanding loan balances will be written off after 30 years. Example monthly repayment amounts, income each year before tax: Up to 21,000 - Repay 0 22,000 - Repay 7 25,000 - Repay 30 30,000 - Repay 67 35,000 - Repay ,000 - Repay 142 These repayments will be linked to your earnings rather than the loan amount, so regardless of how much you owe, the payments will be the same. If your annual earnings fall below 21,000 repayments will stop, and only re-start when earnings increase to more than 21,000 a year. To ensure everyone has the opportunity and right to study, 24+ loans have been made available which are not means tested, ensuring equality. 5 Over 500 adult learners used the 24+ Loan in 2014/15 to help further their careers WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW... i DOES THE LOAN ONLY COVER THE COURSE FEES? Yes, however bursary funds may be available subject to status. HOW IS THE LOAN PAID? Student Finance England will pay your agreed fees direct to the College in equal instalments. The minimum loan you can take out is 300. You can take out the full cost of the fee or you can pay part of the fee yourself. The fee for some courses may exceed the loan amount available from Student Finance England. DO I HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD CREDIT HISTORY? There is no credit check and your household income isn t taken into account. It is important that you consider your own circumstances and look into all the options for paying for your course. You can apply for your loan from May 2015 for courses starting between 1st August 2015 and 31st July Online applications are the preferred method. To apply, you will need a National Insurance Number and a valid Passport or another form of identification, for example a Birth Certificate. You will also require a learning and funding information letter issued by Accrington and Rossendale College. All of our courses are vocationally based and are focussed on developing your practical skills. Full-time courses are typically taken over one or two years (depending on the level and course area). Our part-time courses are ideal if you have work or other commitments that make it impossible for you to study full-time. 13 OUR APPRENTICESHIPS ARE AVAILABLE AT DIFFERENT LEVELS, WHICH MEAN YOU CAN START AT WHATEVER STAGE IS RIGHT FOR YOU AND PROGRESS ACCORDINGLY. The level you study at will depend on the GCSE grades you get (especially GCSE English and Maths) or levels you have already achieved. INTERMEDIATE (LEVEL 2) Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as a Level 2 Competence Qualification, Functional Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification. This is equivalent to five GCSEs. ADVANCED (LEVEL 3) Apprentices work towards work-based learning such as a Level 3 Competence Qualification, Functional Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification. This is equivalent to two A-Levels. HIGHER (LEVEL 4 AND/OR 5) Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as a Level 4 Competence Qualification, Functional Skills and, in some cases, a knowledgebased qualification such as a Foundation Degree. 15 At AccRoss we recognise that every student has their own individual needs and it is important to provide higher education programmes that suit you and your requirements. We provide full and part-time study routes for many of our higher education courses and support is available for mature students returning to education. Support is available at all levels to help you succeed with your studies. This includes personal tutorial support and guidance. FULL-TIME STUDY Our Honours and Foundation Degree programmes at AccRoss are available to study on a full-time basis. Our experienced and highly qualified lecturers and reduced class sizes, provide a learning experience to rival many universities. Studying at a local college can reduce the high costs often associated with studying at university. We provide full-time higher education programmes validated by prestigious universities. PART-TIME STUDY Some of our higher education and professional programmes available at AccRoss are available to study on a part-time basis. Parttime study programmes are ideal for people that have work or family commitments and want to pursue a higher education qualification. MATURE STUDENTS AccRoss welcomes applications from adult students of all ages to join our rewarding and supportive higher education community. A lack of formal qualifications need not prevent you from entering higher education, as we take many other factors into account when you apply. Mature students will therefore receive sympathetic consideration on application, and programme lecturers are happy to advise potential applicants. All mature students can enquire directly about courses in the first instance, although full-time applicants will have to submit their application through UCAS. Learners can apply for financial support to help with costs associated with their study, including, for example, child care expenses, equipment or travel costs. All applications will be assessed on an individual basis. We recommend that students apply early as funds are limited and demand is always extremely high. Free fees are subject to change in-line with Government Legislation. REFUND POLICY Learners will not be eligible for refunds if they decide to stop attending their course.
