21 21 Merry Gibbons Course: Humanistic Counselling Foundation Degree Before retraining at Guildford College Merry was a full time mum, self-employed music teacher and complementary therapist. She choose Guildford College because it taught NCFE 1, 2 and 3 in Counselling Skills and Theory and Greenwich University s accredited Foundation Degree. This made her wish to train as a qualified professional counsellor feel less complicated and kept it in one location throughout her time studying. Merry wanted to re-train as a counsellor because whilst volunteering at a local cancer support centre she saw how therapeutic providing a listening ear can be for those experiencing a very difficult and isolating time. I really enjoyed the learning and gained a new found confidence by going back into education and training for something I really felt passionate about. She is now a qualified Humanistic Integrative Counsellor providing specialist counselling for teenagers and young people with cancer at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. She also runs a private practice and works at a local counselling agency. I really enjoyed the learning and gained a new found confidence by going back into education and training for something I really felt passionate about.

It provides a specialist, work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required by the computing sector. It is ideal for those who prefer to demonstrate their skills through coursework and allows you to broaden your career opportunities by opting not to specialise in one particular area. The programme offers a progression route in to a number of roles in the IT and computing sectors, either directly on achievement of the award or following further study to degree level. General specialists can enter system management, while ICT system support specialists can install or manage IT networks. You could also progress on to further study such as a degree or a Professional Development Qualification or vendor qualifications offered by Cisco, Microsoft, IBM, CompTIA, Oracle and VM Ware. Modules Data analysis and design (15 credits), IT security management (15 credits), local area networking technologies (15 credits), network security (15 credits), programming in.net (15 credits), project design, implementation and evaluation (20 credits), web applications development (15 credits), e-commerce strategy (15 credits). Total: 125 credits. Assessment You will be assessed through written and practical assignments, in-class tests and portfolio submission. 'Real world' case studies are used as often as possible. Progression Continue your studies from the HND on a 'top up' Computing BSc. Careers Become a systems analyst, software engineer, database manager, web developer/designer, network technician, or IT consultant.
