2 Evidenced results BIRT Independent Living Scale (BILS) - Occupational The BILS Occupation indicates levels of productive activity. This includes education, training, employment and recreational activities. Percentage of service users engaged in occupational activity on discharge. Supervision Rating Scale (SRS) The SRS is an indicator of the level of support and supervision needed by an individual. Percentage of service users discharged from BIRT services who were independent or needed only part-time supervision (compared with 12% on admission). 61% Number of people discharged from BIRT services in % 248 Average length of stay. 5.3 months 74% 88% Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) Percentage of service users on discharge who scored as having no disturbance due to anxiety. 3 Cost effective outcomes Research by BIRT 1 found that neurobehavioural rehabilitation leads to a reduction in lifetime care costs of 68% for individuals who were admitted within one year post injury. A 37% reduction was found among individuals receiving rehabilitation later than one year after brain injury. 92% nursing Percentage of service users who were admitted to BIRT from a hospital, or residential care setting 2. 71% of those surveyed at six months post-discharge, reported no problems with self care 3. 4 Making a difference to people with brain injury BIRT makes contact with service users six months after discharge. In 2015, 67% of service users surveyed agreed with the statement I have got the important things I want in life. The care of my husband has been of the highest standard. (Family member, Kent House.)
