1 Please note! This document is a worksheet to assist you in gathering information only. Do not fax or mail! The actual survey must be completed online. Paraprofessional/Aide Information for the Fiscal Year For the purpose of this survey, a paraprofessional is defined as an employee, typically uncertificated, who works with teachers to assist in instruction, classroom management and supervision of students. A paraprofessional typically has a minimum of 60 hours of college credit or has passed an examination verifying that he or she is qualified. For the purpose of this survey, a personal care aide is defined as an employee who provides non-instructional services to disabled students necessary for the student to access the district s facilities and programs. These services may include ambulatory, eating and toileting assistance. A personal care aide is typically not a licensed nurse and does not need a college degree. My District is: District Code: Our district employs at least one paraprofessional and/or personal care aide. 1. Most districts work with or discuss issues with employee organizations when setting salaries and benefits. Some call this process meet and confer, some call it negotiation, some consider it a district committee. Please check the answer that best describes which groups (if any) are involved in the district s decision-making process for paraprofessionals. Missouri National Education Association (MNEA) affiliate Missouri State Teachers Association (MSTA) affiliate Missouri American Federation of Teachers (AFT) affiliate Teamsters 1
2 Local employee group unaffiliated with other state or national organizations or employees elected to serve on the committee The district does not formally consult with employees when making these decisions Other 2. Has the district recognized a union for collective bargaining purposes? 3. Does the district have a collectively bargained agreement with paraprofessionals? (A collective bargaining agreement is a written document agreed to and signed by both parties. This does not include policies or unsigned memorandums that are not binding contracts. It may include a Memorandum of Understanding, if the document is agreed to by the Board and signed by both parties. It is a contract with a bargaining unit of employees, not an employment contract with an individual employee.) If the district has entered into a binding agreement, please that agreement to servconschoolsurveys@gmail.com! 4. If the district has recognized a union for paraprofessionals, does the district provide paid leave to the president or other official representative of the association/union to conduct union business within the district? (t to attend meetings out of the district. Leave blank if there is no union.) / II. Salary Information for the Fiscal Year Total Number of Work Days per School Year Average Number of Hours Worked per Week 2
3 Number of Paid Holidays (Days employee is NOT expected to work but is paid for. Assume no change is necessary for inclement weather.) For the purpose of this survey, the minimum hourly rate is the lowest wage on the district s schedule or, if there is no schedule, the lowest wage paid to an employee in the job category. For the purpose of this survey, the maximum hourly rate is the highest wage paid on the schedule or, if there is no schedule, the highest wage paid by the district to an employee in this category. If there is only one person with this job classification and the district does not have a salary schedule for paraprofessionals/personal care aides, list that person's hourly rate in the "Maximum" column. If your district pays its paraprofessionals/personal care aides on a salary basis, please divide that amount by the number of days the employee is expected to work in the year, then divide the new amount by the average number of hours an employee works per day to determine the employee s hourly rate. Paraprofessional (If your district does not differentiate based on education or certification.): Paraprofessional with college degree (Leave blank if your district does not differentiate based on college degree.): Paraprofessional with teaching certificate other than sub certificate (Leave blank if your district does not differentiate based on certification.): 3
