2 About WANADA The Western Australian Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (WANADA) is the peak body for the alcohol and other drug education, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and support sector in WA. We are an independent, membership-driven not-for-profit association. The work of WANADA includes; workforce planning, Aboriginal networking, consultation, advocacy lobbying, sector planning, representation and service enhancement on behalf of members and the sector. Alcohol and other drugs (AOD) are a health and social issue that impacts the whole community. The AOD sector in Western Australia provides highly skilled services to meet the diverse needs of people in our community. WANADA aspires to drive across sector solutions that focus on a whole of community approach to addressing health and wellbeing issues associated with the use alcohol and other drugs. WANADA is driven by the passion and hard work of our member agencies, which include community drug services, therapeutic communities and residential rehabilitation centres, soberingup shelters, harm reduction services, and counselling services. WANADA is the independent voice on alcohol and other drug sector issues throughout WA.

3

4 WANADA s ways of working WANADA was established in 1984 as the peak body for the Western Australian alcohol and other drug sector. State government funding was withdrawn in the mid 1990 s, during which time members supported the continuation of their peak from their own funds. This highlighted how valuable WANADA was to members and built the basis of the strong relationship WANADA maintains with its members today. WANADA represents the interests of a diverse membership across Western Australia. Members cover the spectrum of prevention, treatment and harm reduction services, including community drug services, residential treatment, community based services, and needle and syringe exchange programs. The Board of WANADA has grown and developed to reflect the growth and diversity of the membership. Board members are elected from the sector and have the option to appoint an independent chairperson to complement the Board s skills and to reflect any current areas of focus for the sector. The current CEO, Jill Rundle, commenced the role in Through her passion and commitment WANADA diversified its funding sources and increased its capacity to meet the growing demand and complexity of issues related to alcohol and other drug use. Jill leads WANADA into a challenging new era for the specialist Western Australian alcohol and other drug sector. The WANADA staff work closely together to draw on the strengths and talents of the team. Operations are broadly divided into Sector Development and WANADA Organisation Development activities, with a strong focus on consultation, cross sector relationships and communication.

5 Types of Membership WANADA offers three types of membership: Full Organisational Membership will be available to those legally constituted nongovernment and government agencies or branches of legally constituted agencies whose prime function is in the alcohol or other drug area and who support the purpose and objectives of WANADA.
