Why should I use XD instead of VDI in BOX. What is the main diferences between 2 VDI products There are several differences between the two products. VDI in a Box is targeted for a small to medium business. XenDesktop is targeted more as an enterprise solution. VDI in a Box supports workgroups, supports a small internal database. Whereas XenDesktop is going to be more robust for the enterprise with a HA external database, PowerShell SDK, support for 3D graphics, etc. Hope that helps! But Citrix also offers a product called XenClient XT. It is a client side hypervisor and provides for client side processing and allows for multiple virtual desktops to be run on a single device. That device can be disconnected from the network and allows the user to continue to be productive offline. That solution also allows for different networks to get routed to specific virtual VMs. This product has successfully gone through government security/penetration testing. The great aspect of Citrix's approach is that we only manage/control the business content, not the entire device, with CloudGateway. Therefore, only the business content gets wiped - the user's personal content is left alone. Maybe I missed it, but if mobile apps are installed locally on a device, isn't that app (& any saved data to the device) now at risk (ie leaks, infection, etc.)? You can set up the URL as a 'web app' in CloudGateway and create a nice icon that will appear in the user's 'app store' in Receiver Mobile apps and data installed locally from CloudGateway (and ShareFile for data) reside within the Receiver 'secure mobile container' environment, which is segregated and protected from the personal environment.

4 When is Citrix planning on retiring Web Interface and instead going completely Citrix Receiver, Receiver Storefront, and Cloud Gateway? As it relates to BYO can the Citrix receiver be used to control policies and security on mobile devices (iphones, Androids)? Can it be used for Mobile Device Management? Thanks, Stephan Ayotte That transition has already started, and from here there will be no new features added to Web Interface. Web Interface will be supported through at least 2015 (to help all of our current customers while they plan their transition), but all new features for XD, XA and other Citrix technologies will be developed in Receiver, StoreFront and CloudGateway. Citrix Receiver and CloudGateway work together to control the business content within a 'secure mobile container.' This is a different approach than Mobile Device Management, which focuses on managing/controlling the entire device (including the user's personal content - not great in the BYO world). ShareFile's Windows sync tool copies all data stored in the cloud account locally to the user s computer. Any backup solution running on that computer can be configured to back-up the data stored on the device as well (and likely will automatically sync to ShareFile user s My Documents folder by default.) There are 2 ways to license access to a virtual install of Windows Client Operating Systems: If your PCs are covered by Software Assurance, one of the SA benefits is remote access to a virtual installation. You can leverage ShareFile to set policies that prevent users from moving your corporate data to icloud. At some point the "CloudGateway" learns your linkedin password? What happens if you went home and changed your linkedin password...how does the AD/Gateway know? CloudGateway learns your login/password info for web/saas apps the first time you log in - it asks users to supply the information the first time, then 'remembers' (in a secure manner) the log in and password information. If you change a password, the next time you access that app through CloudGateway it will ask you to re-enter credentials because the 'old' credentials will fail. From there it will remember your new credentials. Doesn't Apple have to "sign" applications installed on ios? How are you able to push native apps onto ipads over the Receiver? Are they signed? Who by? How does XenClient extend the benefits of desktop virtualization to laptops? The itunes store now has the capability for customers to acquire enterprise licenses and then distribute the designated apps using a corporate enterprise app store such as CloudGateway. XenClient extends all of the benefits of the network-connected, desktop virtualization VDI model to disconnected laptop users allowing them to work from anywhere. Users have the advantage of being able to be provisioned a laptop and image and quickly become productive. They can easily backup and restore their desktop in the case the laptop is lost or stolen. IT administrators can centrally create, deploy and manage a single OS image in the data center to all users. XenClient provides management functions such as image deployment, update, backup, recovery and laptop security What if I have apps that need to run locally on PCs Administrators can choose to install universally used applications (like office) in the master OS image for delivery to all users or to deliver the applications via Citrix application delivery functionality, XenApp.

8 How can employees be productive working offline? For laptop users and other power users who want or need offline productivity, XenClient Enterprise is a great choice. It s part of the FlexCast delivery model and is included with XenDesktop Enterprise and Platinum licenses. With XenClient Enterprise, a Type-1 hypervisor is installed on the bare metal of PCs, and runs beneath the operating system and locally installed apps. IT can then centrally manage and secure these virtual desktops. which run like native PCs both online or offline. If your network goes down, productivity doesn t go with it. How do users actually use native mobile apps when receiver is used to connect to apps in the datacenter? Receiver can now be used with CloudGateway for all types of apps not just virtual apps and desktops. Native mobile apps, for example, are installed locally onto the mobile device and appear both on the native workspace (e.g. springboard) and within the Receiver workspace. Users can double-click on either instance to use their native mobile app locally. How can IT maintain control over native mobile apps if they are locally installed? What if I need to lock or wipe an app such as when a user leaves the organization? CloudGateway and Receiver include a technology called MDX App Vault, which is a secure container for native mobile apps (as well as other business apps and data on the mobile device). When IT delivers apps to mobile devices you need to walk a fine line between providing the mobile experience users expect (for example, seeing those apps on the springboard) while maintaining total control over those apps. That s the purpose of MDX App Vault it creates a bubble around those apps so you maintain total control. You can centrally manage what devices and users can access apps and data, lock them, wipe them and more. Do users need Internet connection to run mobile apps Depends whether it's a native mobile app or an HTML 5 mobile app. Native mobile apps are installed locally on the device, so no internet connection is needed to run those apps (unless the app needs to access external sources such as the datacenter for required data). HTML 5 mobile apps are web-based, so they require internet connectivity. Can I get my ipad apps on my windows device? Citrix Access Gateway SSL VPN appliances protect intellectual property while enabling users to work securely from anywhere. It can be bought standalone or part of NetScaler. When bought as part of NetScaler, you get all the added benefits of the integrated web interface, load balancing, disaster recovery, single sign on and many more NetScaler features. Is NetScaler required for the virtual desktop experience?
