1 EDUCATION Erin Leigh Ashworth-King Department of English ASU Station #10894 San Angelo, TX University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Ph.D. in English Literature, August Specialization: Early Modern Literature ( ), Minor in Dramatic Literature and Theory. Dissertation Director: Dr. Reid Barbour, Professor. University of Maryland-College Park, M.A. in English Literature, August M.A. Thesis: Titles blown from adulation : Shakespeare s Critique of Chivalric Ceremony in the Henriad. Director: Theodore Leinwand, Professor. University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, B.A. in English Literature and Dramatic Arts, May Graduated with Honors. BOOK PROJECT A revision of my dissertation, the monograph The Ethics of Satire in Early Modern English Literature explores the authority and construction of the satirist through a variety of genres in early modern England. Drawing upon religious pamphlets, prose satire, allegorical epic, verse satire and satiric drama, this project takes as its scope the years leading up to and immediately following the bishops ban of satire in Specifically, I link the anxiety raised by satire and the figure of the satirist in these years to larger early modern religious concerns about moral authority, indignation, charity and righteous zeal. By fleshing out the satirist and the effect of his discourse on society, this dissertation argues for satire s place among studies of early modern religious reformation during the Elizabethan Settlement.
