1 1 Purpose This policy has been developed to ensure compliance with NVR Standard regulated by the National Vet Regulator; Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). 2 Policy Statement The Taronga Training Institute (TTI) will comply with the abovementioned standard via the implementation of this policy. 3 Definition Supervision is the provision of regular and ongoing guidance, direction and leadership from a person holding the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or from a person who has demonstrated equivalent competencies. 4 Policy Practice and Procedure 4.1 Direct Supervision Requirements The supervising person monitors and is accountable for the training delivery but does not need to be present during all the time that training is being delivered. A Trainer under direct supervision must not conduct assessment. Direct Supervision arrangements cannot be utilised for more than 24 months. People commencing in this role (i.e., working under supervision) must hold the TAE10 Enterprise Trainer Skill Set or be able to demonstrate equivalence of competencies within two years of commencement. 4.2 Direct Supervision Practice A planning meeting should be held between the Lead Trainer and the Trainer under supervision which cover the following areas: Planning to be completed prior to delivery may include: Establish terms of supervision e.g. regular meetings, number of classroom teaching observations (if appropriate), student feedback strategies, and availability of supervisor. Discuss teaching context and current practices, including competency based training and teacher responsibilities. Discuss delivery strategies for all units to be delivered including: session plan; delivery or topic sequence; learning materials; and assessment tools and procedures. 2 Examples of Direct Supervision: providing input to the preparation for training, including planning sessions; discussing strategies to support specific learners; assisting the trainer to locate appropriate resources; observing some training sessions and providing feedback; debriefing the trainer after training sessions; providing regular support, guidance and monitoring. Delivery and Review: Discuss teaching program during delivery and determine effectiveness of the teaching, learning and assessing strategies in place. Develop a revised delivery plan, if required. Review teaching program at end of delivery and determine effectiveness of teaching, learning and assessment strategies. Review student feedback and unit evaluations. Discuss future changes to delivery strategies from these evaluations. 4.3 Direct Supervision Practice The Direct Supervision Document must be completed prior to delivery and approved by the Course Coordinator. 3 5 DIRECT SUPERVISION DOCUMENT This document must be completed by VET trainers who do not hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment prior to the commencement of delivery. A separate form must be completed for each Unit of Competency or Cluster the trainer is delivering. All activities should be recorded on the template attached.
