2 Welcome to the General Authority (GA) Training Calendar! Please find outlined below the registration process for GA staff, foster parents and volunteers training (which are registered through Careen Simoes, unless otherwise specified). Please refer to the specific registration process within each training descriptive. There are brief descriptives of the various training sessions outlined at the end of the calendar. Following the calendar/descriptive is the registration form for all GA staff, foster parents and volunteers. It is to be used for all training requests. Each registration form MUST have a supervisor s signature. Below is a brief outline of the registration process: Complete training registration form for each participant and fax to Careen Please ensure that this is the appropriate registration contact as these may vary. A supervisor s signature must be on all registration forms. Once training request is received and you have been registered, you will receive a confirmation of your request Please note: You will also receive notification if the session is full and you may be advised of other training dates, should any be available. Sessions fill up quickly, so it is important for you to submit your request as early as possible. There will a sign-in sheet at all training sessions it is important to ensure that you have signed this sheet, so that you can be recognized for attending the training. It also assists with the certificates process (where applicable). GA Training registration forms must be completed for all GA training regardless if registering through other process, and sent in to Careen Simoes. For CORE, First Aid/CPR, CFSIS/Intake, OSD, Child & Youth Care Worker training programs the registration process is at the end of this calendar. Travel expenses are generally the responsibility of each individual agency. Thank you. 6 TRAINING DESCRIPTIONS ATTACHMENT TRAINING FOR SOCIAL WORKERS & FOSTER PARENTS This two-day training provides principles and strategies on attachment difficulties with children and youth. This workshop will describe attachment and why it is important; explore the four basic Attachment styles and the Internal Working Model of Disorganized Attachment. Participants will be introduced to the Circle of Security and corresponding attachment styles and will discuss interventions when the attachment relationship has been disrupted. Social Workers, Supervisors, Foster Parents February 5 & 6, 2015 /9:00-4:00 p.m. both days/ GA Training Centre, King Street, Winnipeg MB Tracey Miller BRIEF INTERVENTION ADDICTIONS TRAINING Brief intervention is a practice that provides screening tools and appropriate intervention options for working/talking with youth with substance use issues in an open and supportive way. This two day brief intervention training will increase your comfort and ability to respond effectively to youth at risk of harmful involvement with substances. Topics covered will include: * Brief Intervention theory & practice; * Adolescent development & substance use; * Screening and assessment skills and tools; * Motivational interviewing; * Addictions services and referral processes. 8 FASD within CFS: Diagnosis and Strategies This one day training replaces the previous FASD Generalist Training with updated current information on diagnosis of FASD as well as hands on strategies for: foster parents caring for children and youth with FASD workers within child welfare Participants are provided with up to date research and diagnostic terms as well as hands on tools and best practice strategies to work effectively with individuals with FASD. Working with families around FASD prevention is explored as it relates to the child welfare caseload. Participants will learn how to use a Trauma-Informed perspective to better understand the relational, neurobiological and developmental impact of trauma on children, youths and their families. Participants will learn practical tools to respond more effectively to children and youth who have experienced trauma. This is a cross-authority initiative. 9 PARENTS WITH FASD: THE CHALLENGE FOR CASE PLANNING WITHIN CFS This one day workshop will address challenges for CFS workers who are dealing with parents on their caseload who themselves are affected by FASD. This workshop will include a profile of adults with FASD, how this can affect parenting capacity and what strategies or resources can be helpful in case planning with parents with FASD. A speaker will also be joining us from Visions and Voices who herself has FASD and is parenting her three children. The stresses in our culture that have undermined the necessary conditions for healthy development and their consequences in childhood and adolescent disorders; 4.
