I am the co-ordinator and a professor in Durham College s Animation program. I want to first thank you for applying to the program. We believe we have a really fun and challenging program and we are looking for students who will be a good fit for what we have to offer, just as you are looking for a good fit for your career goals. Profile and portfolio requirements In addition to the Durham College requirements, admission to the Animation program includes the submission of a Personal Profile as well as a Portfolio of Artwork. The purpose of the portfolio is to allow you to show us your drawing and creative ability. If you have not had formal art training Please don t worry. We understand that applicants have varying skill levels and we ve designed the portfolio to uncover your artistic potential in the areas of drawing and creativity. Portfolio Information Sessions We invite you to one of our portfolio information sessions. The goal of the sessions is to take the mystery out of how to put a portfolio together and to build your confidence. For session dates and times, please visit When to apply We begin taking portfolios and profiles as of November 1, 2015, and we will review them as soon as they come in. All complete applications received before February 1, 2016 will receive equal consideration. If there are any spaces after that they will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Animation has been wait-listed in the past, so don t delay. Questions? You can submit the Portfolio & Profile a couple of different ways: 1. 5 APPLICANT NAME: SECTION 2: PORTFOLIO OF ARTWORK APPLICANT NUMBER: Your portfolio should show your current level of proficiency in drawing and visual arts. Your portfolio should include ten to twelve (10-12) digital prints or photocopied examples of your best work. Please include among the ten to twelve the following pieces: a) An observational/real-life drawing of an organic shape, like a human hand, a person, an animal, or a plant. b) An observational/real-life drawing of interior of a building (such as a kitchen, classroom, washroom, etc.) OR an exterior view of a building, buildings or streetscape. c) Eight to ten (8-10) additional pieces which can be from any medium, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art (photoshop/illustrator), etc. Do not include originals the portfolio will not be returned. Only photocopies and prints (or digital submissions). All submissions must be your own work. Any submission that contains plagiarized work, copied either manually or electronically, will be disqualified and you will be refused consideration. Do not include works of pre-existing characters, such as Disney, Loony Tunes, anime or manga characters. Any submission that contains inappropriate or offensive content will be refused consideration.
