Office: Lutgert Hall Phone: Office Hours: By appointment All class meetings are 8.00 am to noon Text book: Managerial Economics, Keat, P.G., and Young, K.Y (6 th ed.), required Course Description: Managerial Economics (ECP 6705) uses basic economic theory to analyze real world business decisions. Most of the course covers production and price-setting decisions of a firm without reference to whether it is operating in an international environment. Once this is accomplished, the course addresses the special problems created by the international environment (three credit hours). Learning outcomes: The following matrix links the course learning outcomes to the overall EMBA learning goals and outcomes. EMBA learning goals Technological proficiency Communication skills Teamwork and interpersonal skills Systems orientation Creative and analytical thinking EMBA learning outcomes Graduates will be able to link data, knowledge, and insight to make quality strategic decisions on a timely basis. ECP 6705 learning outcomes Ability to describe the different market structures and the problems that a firm faces in each. Ability to use economic models to determine how changes in economic conditions affect market prices and quantities Assessment Mid term and final examination Recognize and describe the determinants of the demand for a product and its sensitivity to price, income,

Explain the conditions under which a firm can benefit by charging different prices to different customers. Appreciation of the diverse environment of business Ethical framework Graduates will have a global perspective of the diverse demographics and environment of organizations. They will understand the issues and challenges encountered by profit and not-for-profit entities, and entrepreneurial enterprises. Determine whether a firm faces exchange rate risk and find ways said risk can be reduced. Each of the four will have a weight of 5 percent. The midterm and the final will have a weight of 40 percent each. Assessment method Weight (in percent) Quizzes (4 highest scoring out of six) 20 Midterm 40 Final 40 The following grading scale will be used: : A 60-69: D 80 89: B 59 and below: F 70 79: C
4 Grades will be assigned purely on the basis of performance. There are no extra credit assignments and your particular situation relating to graduation, scholarship, work, financial aid, work etc., has no bearing on grading. A grade of incomplete may be given out in case of unforeseen emergencies, according to my discretion and in accordance with FGCU guidelines. Poor performance during the semester is not a valid reason for an incomplete. Missed Exam: There will not be a makeup for a missed exam/quiz. A missed quiz will get a grade of zero. If more than two quizzes are missed, the total weight of the quizzes taken will be adjusted up to 20 percent of the semester grade. If the midterm is missed, the weight of the final exam will be increased by the weight of the midterm. Attendance Policy: I may take attendance in the class. However, if you miss a class or classes there is no penalty. This freedom given to you has several associated responsibilities: You will not be late and not leave early; and, when in the classroom you will concentrate on learning and nothing else. Communication: I will make announcements during class and periodically communicate with the class via CRN at eagle.fgcu. If you do not have an eagle account you need to establish one. Grades for the midterm exam will be communicated via Canvas. Appropriate Classroom Behavior: Laptops, tablets, and cell phones are not to be used in the classroom. If you want to bring your textbook to class that is fine, other than that please do not read outside material in class (this includes newspapers, magazines, and any book you are reading that you just can t put down). Also, please do not engage in talking on a non-class discussion related matter.
