3 BACKGROUND INFORMATION South Cheshire College South Cheshire College is a tertiary college situated in a residential area in Crewe. The College attracts students from throughout South and East Cheshire, notably Crewe, Nantwich, Alsager, Middlewich, Sandbach, Congleton, North Shropshire and North Staffordshire. Crewe is an industrial, commercial and service centre with a strong manufacturing tradition in high quality engineering. Nantwich has a history of agricultural economy, but in recent years has diversified into high technology and service industries. The College has a proud heritage of outstanding academic and vocational success. South Cheshire College is the only College in the UK to have been judged as Outstanding in 3 consecutive inspections (1999, 2004 and 2008). The most recent inspection in May 2012 judged the College as Good with Outstanding features. The College s higher education provision was inspected in 2011 by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. The report was extremely positive, with the QAA concluding that it had confidence in the College s management of standards and quality in its higher education provision. A new management structure became operational in August 2014, following the appointment of the current Principal in January The College is on a clear journey back to Outstanding. At the heart of this is our unstinting commitment to outstanding teaching, learning and support for each learner, underpinned by a strategy focusing on outstanding outcomes, sound financial management and effective collaboration. The College provides academic and vocational programmes and offers provision in all subject sector skills areas with the exception of land-based. It offers higher national diplomas (HNDs), foundation degrees, adult and community learning, apprenticeships, and courses for school students across most subject areas. About 30% of learners are enrolled on GCE AS and A-level programmes. There is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy provision. The College operates in a competitive environment: within a 15 mile radius, there are nine other post 16 providers including five school sixth forms, one Sixth Form College, a specialist land-based Further Education College and three other GFE colleges. South Cheshire College holds several national accreditation awards notably ISO 9000; Investors in People (reaccredited in 2011); Matrix Award (2013); UnionLearn Quality Award 2011; STEM Assured The Campus South Cheshire College is situated on a single campus in a residential area in Crewe. The College moved into its new 74m campus at the start of 2010/11 academic year. The new campus provides a first-class education facility at the heart of the community. Curriculum areas are grouped together in clusters and connected by vibrant social spaces and a blend of indoor and outdoor zones in an attractive setting. The Crescent is the central student heart, with outlets and facilities and areas that showcase student work. Members of the local community make good use of the facilities too - particularly the 300-seat Centre Stage Theatre, the 6-court Sports Arena and outdoor multi-use pitch, as well as the Elements Hair & Beauty Salons, Restaurant on the Crescent and College Shop. 6 Information Analyst Job Description Area : MIS Salary Hours of Work (Full-time/Parttime) Line Manager : S7 : 37 hours per week : Director of Planning and Funding Responsibility for : The development and maintenance of the delivery and presentation of Management Information. : Promoting the welfare of children and young people Main Purpose of Job: To provide clear, concise and consistent reports in order to ensure that the provision: Meets the needs of learners, employers and other stakeholders Is of the highest possible quality in terms of learner outcomes and learner/employer satisfaction Is effective, efficient and provide excellent value for money Reflects the vision, mission, aims and values of the college Is innovative, developmental and sector leading Promotes a culture of excellence and equality The post-holder will be a member of the MIS area. Key Duties and Responsibilities: (1) Reflect the vision, mission, aims and values of the college. (2) Be responsible to the development and maintenance of the MIS report suite (3) Provide a range of reporting solutions to present information in an easy to use format. (4) Manage the production of ad hoc requests. (5) Support the data requirements of College Managers in meeting strategic objectives (6) Support College Managers in making decisions using data analytics. (7) Investigate the data for meaningful patterns to enable students to be given the best possible support. 6

7 (8) Provide reporting in support of strong data controls. (9) Provide support and advice to data processing teams around data governance to ensure the data is fit for purpose. (10) Develop MI solutions where the College s basic need is not met by proprietary software. (11) Provide documentation and training in the interpretation of reporting and systems. (12) Maintain knowledge of funding methodologies and ensure reporting is consistent with those methodologies. (13) Support the selection and implementation of MIS solutions (14) Develop solutions to ensure compatibility of data from separate systems including system integration and movement of data across systems. (15) Maintain knowledge of new technologies and provide advice on the adoption of them. (16) Ensure the integration of reporting within the framework of the college intranet. (17) Actively seek the views of users to ensure an effective delivery of the reporting service. (18) Liaise with colleagues and support the definition of reporting requirements to support the end use. (19) Undertake training and development as identified through appraisal process or on ad hoc basis from time to time, in line with the college s normal requirements. (20) Follow all agreed Quality Assurance and Risk Management Systems operating in the College and contribute generally to the establishment and development of a quality provision/service. (21) Comply with all College policies and procedures (eg. Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities) and ensure that these policies are followed by staff and students. (22) Undertake appropriate staff development activities that support personal development and the changing needs of the College and its environment. (23) Be aware of, and responsive to, the changing nature of the College and adopt a flexible and proactive approach to work. (24) Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with this grade, at the initial agreed place of work or at other locations in the College catchment area. 9 CONDITIONS OF SERVICE SUPPORT CONTRACT 1 SALARY Support scale Salaries are reviewed annually on 1 August 2 ANNUAL HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT 8 bank/public holidays plus 35 days holiday in each holiday year (1 September to 31 August) plus up to 3 discretionary days for closure between Christmas and New Year (pro rata for parttime staff). 3 PENSION ENTITLEMENT Eligible to join either the Local Government Pension Scheme which is contracted out of the State Second Pension Scheme. Both include 3 x annual salary death in service benefit 4 HOURS OF WORK Such hours as are reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties and responsibilities, normally 37 hours per week 5 OTHER BENEFITS Starting Point Nursery The College has its own day nursery for children aged 0 5 years. It is available for students, staff and other commercial customers. It is situated on-site in new purpose-built premises including indoor and outdoor play. Based in Crewe we re a 10 minute walk from the train station, close to Junction 16 of the M6 and less than an hour by road or rail from Manchester airport. London is only two hours away by train and reasonably priced accommodation means employees benefit from a good standard of living - whether you prefer to live in the country or the town. When leaving the M6 Motorway at junction 16 or 17 follow the signs to Crewe.
