4 Course entry requirements There are no pre-requisites for entry into the BSB41013 Certificate IV in Human Resources. However, if you are not currently working in an HR-related role, AHRI strongly encourages you to consider undertaking study via workshop delivery (versus distance learning) to ensure additional support and resources to assist with your skill development. Is the course full-time or part-time? BSB41013 Certificate IV in Human Resources is designed to be completed part-time and outside of work hours so that you can work in a full-time job and successfully complete the required study within the designated study period. What qualification will I get when I complete this course? AHRI is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Upon successful completion of your studies, you will be awarded a BSB41013 Certificate IV in Human Resources. This is a nationally recognised qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework. What is the course duration? Option 1: 12 weeks Full course delivery Complete the BSB41013 Certificate IV in Human Resources in 12 weeks. Students complete the six topics sequentially and each topic runs for a period of two weeks. This means there is two weeks to learn the topic content and there is one assessment for each topic. These assessments (consisting of an assignment and a Supervisor Checklist) are submitted for assessment every two weeks. Course intake commencement dates are outlined below in Table 2 under key dates Option 2: up to 1 year (12 months) Topic by topic delivery For those not able to commit to 12 weeks of consecutive study, you can complete the course over a 12 month period. The 12 month maximum timeframe starts at the commencement date of your first topic. AHRI calls this method of delivery topic by topic. Students are also assessed and hand in one assessment task per topic (consisting of an assignment and a Supervisor Checklist for each topic). Topic by topic students have two weeks from the commencement of each topic to submit their assessment. The topic by topic dates align with the topic dates for full course delivery students, however topic by topic students have the flexibility of commencing the course with any topic your studies do not have to start at Topic 1. Page 4 V1.5 Australian Human Resources Institute

5 How is the course delivered? After choosing between completing the full course in 12 weeks, or topic by topic within 12 months, students must then select between studying the course via workshop delivery or through distance learning. Study option 1: Workshop Students can complete the course via workshop learning. There are six workshops in total one workshop for each of the six course topics. Students studying the course within the 12 week period must attend a full day workshop every two weeks. Students studying topic by topic can also choose workshop delivery, where they mix with others studying the course topic by topic, as well as those that are completing the course in full in 12 weeks. The workshops are designed to deliver the content of the course topics in an environment where open discussion takes place and students can ask questions from their facilitator and their peers. Workshops provide the opportunity for interactive learning and they are an ideal way to form new professional networks. Workshop locations AHRI offers workshop delivery mode in each Australian capital city when sufficient enrolment numbers are met, refer to Table 4 for location address. Workshops times The workshops run from 9.00am to 5.00pm, typically on a Wednesday. Dates are scheduled in advance and 2014 dates are listed in table 3. Students should arrive at the workshop venue 15 minutes early, so that the workshop can start on time. Who delivers the workshops? AHRI s workshops are delivered by trained and experienced facilitators. They are experts in human resources and have been selected based on their training skills, qualifications, and practical work experience. Students studying the course within 12 weeks normally have the same facilitator throughout the duration of the course; however from time to time, there may be instances where the facilitator is different for one or more of the workshops. What is included in the course price for workshop delivery mode? Workshop materials course handbook, topic workbook, assessments. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea is included on each day of every workshop. Academic support for the content and assessments provided by your facilitator. The academic coordinator supports you throughout the study period and answers questions you may have in relation to the course content or assignments. The academic coordinator is contactable to you by and in the workshop. Access to the AHRI Education Consultant to assist with any course administration issues User access your online student forum this platform enables course-related discussion and questions with other students. Will I need to do additional study outside of workshop hours? Yes. Students studying via workshop learning must also complete additional reading and learning outside of the workshops. As well as their readings, students must complete assignments in their own time. Page 5 V1.5 Australian Human Resources Institute

6 Study option 2: Distance There are no face-to-face workshops to attend with this mode of delivery and study occurs at your chosen time and pace. Studying via distance is often a popular option for those that work full-time and cannot be absent from work to attend the full-day workshops. Each year AHRI delivers distance education to a significant number of students within Australia and internationally. What is included in the price of the distance delivery? Comprehensive learning and assessment materials course handbook, topic workbooks, assessments. Academic support for the topic content and assessments. Does AHRI offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)? Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is the recognition of skills and knowledge gained through life and work experiences and through non-accredited training. The AHRI RPL process incurs the course fees (refer to table 5). This is because it takes time for an expert assessor to review each individual application. As such, an RPL application form must accompany full payment details which are subject to the withdrawal and deferral conditions. If you wish to apply for RPL, please contact the Education Team at qualifications@ahri.com.au to be sent an RPL application form and information about AHRI s RPL policy and procedure. While both credit transfer and RPL options are readily available to all students with previous study and/or experience, it is important to note that the AHRI Certificate IV in HR program includes materials which meet HR industry expectations that are in addition to the national units of competency. ASSESSMENT Assessment in the BSB41013 Certificate IV in Human Resources requires both knowledge and skills to be formally assessed and consists of two compulsory parts: Part A: Six written assessments (i.e. one for each topic) The written assessments focus on the application of knowledge to practical real-life scenarios. This allows students who are currently working to contextualise the learning to their specific organisation. For those students who are not currently employed, a comprehensive industry-based case study organisation is provided for alternative assessment purposes. Part B: Six Workplace Supervisor Checklists (i.e. one for each topic) Students who have access to a workplace during their study period, are required to obtain agreement from a manager or supervisor to undertake the role of a Third Party Workplace Supervisor. The Workplace Supervisor will support the student s learning by consulting with the student and monitoring the completion of workplace tasks identified in the workplace supervisor checklists. This will involve the review and sign off of six checklist forms - each relating to the topics studied. These (Third Party Reports) will form part of the student s portfolio of evidence to be used by an AHRI assessor to assess competence in the relevant units of competency. Note: Your supervisor / manager does not have to work in HR in order to complete the workplace supervisor checklists. Where students do not have access to a workplace supervisor alternative assessment can be arranged. The assessor provides students with feedback on all of their completed assessments.
