1 Campus/Distance & Central Administration Support Librarian National American University is seeking an engaged individual to serve both the campus needs of the Brooklyn Center Library and the distance needs of online students and faculty. The position would work half time at the Brooklyn Center campus and half time as a distance/central administration support librarian. See the following two job descriptions. To apply, submit an employment application (click here for application), resume, and cover letter to: National American University, System Librarian 5301 S Highway 16, Rapid City, SD DISTANCE LEARNING & CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT LIBRARIAN Position Description Summary The Distance Learning & Central Administration Support Librarian collaborates with campus librarians, distance campus personnel, and instructional designers & technologists to identify, implement, and promote innovative online tools and services for both on-campus and off-campus information literacy instruction. In accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the university, this staff member provides reference, instruction, and information literacy assistance to distance learning students and faculty and works with distance learning and curriculum staff in identifying and integrating information literacy instruction using technologies such as social networking, virtual reference, mobile technologies, and other Web 2.0 applications to support local and remote learners. This staff member works with the System Librarian to develop online tutorials for use by distance and campus-based students and faculty and assists the System Librarian in support of identified initiatives. Minimum Qualifications The Distance Learning & Central Administration Support Librarian must satisfy the following minimum qualifications: 1. Master s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from ALA-accredited library school; and 2. One year of experience in an academic setting preferred; and 3. Experience in course management systems, remote authentication, resource linking, online course delivery, and other emerging technologies preferred; and 4. Experience with Captivate & WordPress software preferred. Skills and Attributes The Distance Learning & Central Administration Support Librarian must possess the following skills and attributes: Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; strong computer and organizational skills; self-motivated; ability to work independently; knowledgeable of trends in provision of library services and information literacy initiatives; experience providing reference or library instruction in an academic library; experience with electronic resource management and integrated library systems; willingness to work a flexible schedule as required.
2 Essential Functions The Distance Learning & Central Administration Support Librarian performs the following essential functions: 1. Acts as a liaison between the system library office and the distance faculty, students and administrators. 2. Provides orientation & ongoing support to the distance learning campus via Adobe Connect, AskALibrarian , virtual reference consultations, etc. 3. Provides instruction in the access, use, and evaluation of library resources for distance users. 4. Meets with Writing Intensive instructors each quarter to determine what library related support would benefit their class and provide product or service to meet their needs. 5. Works with instructional designers to best integrate library support into the distance classes. 6. Investigates, implements, monitors and evaluates appropriate communication technologies and promotion methods that can enhance the distance library experience of students. 7. Evaluates services provided to the distance community and recommends future direction to the System Librarian. 8. Works with users, campus librarians & NAU instructional designers to develop tutorials for various library needs. 9. Assists System Librarian with NAU online library website to keep it relevant, user-friendly, highly functional and otherwise continually improved. 10. Recommends and selects resources that will improve the collection, provision and function of library services. 11. Plans, organizes, coordinates, measures and reports work activities in response to System Librarian directives. 12. Monitors trends in information literacy instruction and creates practical application of those trends for the user community. 13. Submits reports as needed. 14. Evaluates resources for addition or deletion and consider impact on operating budget for the online library. 15. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Work Hours Twenty hours per week with flexible schedule meeting requirements of System Librarian and distance learning constituency, including some late afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities 1. The Distance Learning & Central Administration Support Librarian reports to the System Librarian. 2. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Physical Requirements The Distance Learning & Central Administration Support Librarian must be able to speak, hear, see, write, type, dial, reach, and bend.

4 LIBRARIAN Position Description Summary The Librarian provides library instruction and services to support the instructional programs and the university faculty and staff in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the university. Minimum Qualifications The Librarian must satisfy the following minimum qualifications: 5. Master s Degree in Library Science; and 6. One year of professional librarian experience or equivalent. Skills and Attributes The Librarian must possess the following skills and attributes: ability to handle multiple projects and processes simultaneously; strong attention to detail; excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication; student-oriented attitude; integrity; professionalism; strong work ethic; strong organizational skills; planning ability; and willingness to learn and improve in all aspects of the position. Essential Functions The Librarian performs the following essential functions: 16. Acts as a liaison between the System Library Office and the branch faculty, students and administrators. 17. Oversees all activities in the library. 18. Promotes student success through information literacy skills instruction and APA support. 19. Develops policies and procedures to improve library operations. 20. Works closely with the System Librarian and other Librarians to integrate, support and actively participate in system-wide library-related initiatives. 21. Provides instruction in the access, use, and evaluation of library resources for individuals and groups. 22. Provides targeted support of writing-intensive classes including, but not limited to, classroom presentations, faculty in-services, applicable APA formatting support, library-related tutorial assistance and other related support. 23. Promotes and provides communication and advocacy of library services via appropriate campus tools (i.e.: campus orientations, quarterly faculty meetings, honors nights, , Facebook, campus newsletters, posters, etc). 24. Attends and contributes meaningfully to system-wide campus librarian meetings. 25. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and measures work and activities of the library. 26. Recommends and selects resources that will improve the collection and function of the library. 27. Withdraws obsolete and unnecessary material in the library. 28. Inventories all resources in the library. 29. Submits reports as needed. 30. Develops and maintains networking resources and relationships for the library.
5 31. Evaluates resources for addition or deletion and consider impact on operating budget for branch and the online library. 32. Provides limited assistance and Ask-A-Librarian back-up support, as necessary, to nearby NAU facilities with no designated campus librarian 33. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Work Hours A minimum of twenty hours per week, plus other hours as may be necessary to complete job duties. A combination of day, evening, and weekend hours may be required. Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities 3. The Librarian reports to the System Librarian. 4. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Physical Requirements The Librarian must be able to speak, hear, see, write, type, dial, reach, and bend. This position also requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20 pounds.
