1. Hype Cycle for Application Architecture, 2011 Gartner identifies G technology as a platform for implementing Multitenancy and Cloud Transaction Processing Style of Application Design.

1. Hype Cycle for Application Architecture, 2011 Gartner locates Multitenancy as a trend in the peak of the cycle, and it is a reference to the mode of operation of software where multiple independent instances of one or multiple applications operate in a shared environment. The instances (tenants) are logically isolated, but physically integrated. The degree of logical isolation must be complete, but the degree of physical integration will vary. The more physical integration, the harder it is to preserve the logical isolation. The business impact of the adoption of multitenancy platforms reduces the costs of IT operations for providers of cloud services by packing workloads with higher density. It also decreases the levels of overcapacity in advanced private cloud data centers that establish private multitenant PaaS. Multitenant application environments are more agile in their utilization of computing power. Overall, well- applied multitenancy reduces the cost of computing, and increases the agility with which applications respond to changing levels of demand.

1. Hype Cycle for Application Architecture, 2011 Gartner identifies Cloud Transaction Processing Style of Application Design as a rising trend, and it is an advanced style of developing transactional applications aimed at supporting advanced and demanding distributed TP applications by leveraging public, private, community and hybrid cloud computing architectures. The business impact of adoption of the cloud TP- style of applications design and the associated enabling technologies is vital for global Web commerce, advanced multitenant SaaS, cloud services, social software, online gaming and entertainment, and a variety of other global- reach applications aimed at supporting multiple thousands (if not millions or tens of millions) of users. Cloud TP also captures the changes in the traditional world. In established industries such as travel, telecom, financial services and healthcare organizations are experiencing an explosive growth in the number of transactions they have to sustain. Hundreds of millions of citizens in emerging countries are putting these industries under stress because of their desire to use their products and services. Therefore, the applications supporting these businesses also have extremely demanding requirements in terms of performance (more than 5,000 transactions per second), latency (subsecond), 24/7 availability and multifold growth in scalability (more than 100,000 concurrent accesses, whether via APIs or user interfaces).

2. Hype Cycle for Application Development, 2011 Gartner identifies G technology as a Cloud- Enabled Application Platform (CEAP), this is an emerging trend of the cycle.

2. Hype Cycle for Application Development, 2011 Gartner identifies Cloud- Enabled Application Platform (CEAP), as a rising trend, and it is a programmable platform (typically an application server) for the development and deployment of multitenant business application services. A CEAP is sold as a product. It can be used to power a public or private application platform as a service (apaas). It is bought by IT organizations that are building a private apaas, cloud services providers that are building a public cloud apaas, ISVs that are building multitenant SaaS application services and want to own the underlying enabling technology or Sis building private or public SaaS applications for their customers. The business impact is that application servers will begin to shift to their new incarnation the cloud apaas. CEAP is the prevailing enabling technology for apaas and business application services (SaaS). It is, therefore, a key enabling technology for enterprise cloud computing. Vendors that can establish a standard programming model for CEAPs will have a major advantage over their competitors in industry influence, the forming of a partner ecosystem and, consequently, the growth opportunity for their business.

3. Hype Cycle for Cloud Application Infrastructure Services (PaaS), 2011 Gartner identifies G technology as a platform for implementing the Cloud Transaction Processing Style of Application Design and Multitenancy trends. It also identifies G as a Cloud- Enabled Application Platform (CEAP), and Application apaas.

3. Hype Cycle for Cloud Application Infrastructure Services (PaaS), 2011 Gartner identifies Application PaaS (apaas), as a trend located at the peak of the cycle, and it is a cloud service that offers development and deployment environments for application services. It's an extended application server "in the sky." An apaas is a general- purpose platform for building software- as- a- service (SaaS)- style applications. It implements such characteristics of cloud computing as multitenancy, elastic scalability, self- service and use tracking. The internal apaas technology that facilitates the service is referred to as cloud- enabled application platform (CEAP) technology. The business impact of apaas is that it affects the business of enterprise IT, ISVs, SIs and technology vendors because a new model for developing business solutions and delivering business value of IT is emerging. Application ISVs should look at the apaas opportunity as a serious long- term, game- changing option. Its low cost of entry, low burden of operations, and, often, high degree of productivity and scale enable less technical application ISVs to concentrate on their business expertise and leave the IT issues to others. Large- enterprise IT organizations working with projects that need to be completed quickly will find that the apaas option can't be beat for the fast time to initiate the project and, often, the fast time to deliver value. Most users should plan for a hybrid environment and ensure that their application integration infrastructure (including possibly the use of integration PaaS) is prepared to manage both on- premises and apaas- based cloud application services.

4. Hype Cycle for Cloud Computing, 2011 Gartner identifies G technology as a platform for implementing Multitenancy trend and also as an Application apaas.

5. Gartner 2011 Research Outlook for Application Platforms This research is targeted to CIOs, CTOs, IT planners, enterprise technology architects, application architects, project leaders and IT provider planners. Application platforms are defined by Gartner as "middleware products providing the runtime environment to host server- side application logic developed using the programming model supported by the application platform itself. Gartner identifies G technology as one of the application platforms of the research and says about them: As the opportunities of cloud computing become more evident, application platforms designed to fit in with cloud computing CEAPs and their "as a service" renditions (apaas) are increasingly scrutinized as alternatives to traditional approaches. "High control" cloud application platforms providing cost- optimized, elastic scalability, continuous availability, distributed transaction management and cloud attributes are being adopted in on- premises, off- premises and hybrid deployment scenarios to support the most- demanding, systematically oriented cloud transaction processing (TP)- style application requirements. In- memory data grids/distributed caching platforms have matured and have reached a reasonable degree of industry adoption. "High productivity" cloud application platforms, often based on model- driven or metadata- based development environments, and open- source- based application platforms providing support for dynamic languages (e.g., Phyton, PHP or Ruby on Rails), are increasingly being considered. This is because users' perceptions are that they are less- expensive and more- productive alternatives than Java EE or.net.

6. Platform as a Service: Definition, Taxonomy and Vendor Landscape, 2011 In this report Gartner says that application servers are the core technology underlying business applications. In the cloud, application server technology is combined with dedicated development and management tools, and composition and data persistence platforms (RDBMS, NoSQL data store, in- memory distributed caching platform, etc.). A suite made up of these and other technologies forms the foundation for an apaas. apaass are cloud platforms that enable the development and deployment of multitenant, elastically scalable business applications. Gartner identifies that two of the seven multitenancy models represent the main choice and tension in the emerging, yet still unsettled, apaas market. These are the shared- hardware and the shared- everything models. Naturally, shared- hardware apaas are more suitable for hosting the older, migrated workloads, and the shared- everything apaas are the platforms of choice for developing new, native cloudcomputing applications. Many vendors providing XTP- oriented application platforms have evolved their technology and value proposition toward cloud application platforms G technology is one of them. True to their highly systematic nature, most XTP- derived cloud application platforms show the characteristics of a high- control cloud application platform, particularly oriented at supporting users in the implementation of cloud transaction processing (TP)- style applications. Some vendors take the role of the providers and offer apaas (a cloud platform service). Others, in the role of an enabler, offer cloud- enabled application platforms (CEAPs) as a product. CEAPs are used by IT organizations to build a private cloud, and are used by SaaS providers looking to retain control of their enabling technology without having to invent a new multitenant application server. A growing number of vendors offer both apaas services and CEAP products. (G technology is offered as apaas and CEAP).

7. Market Profile: Platform as a Service 2011 Gartner identifies G technology as Cloud- enabled application platform CEAP which are middleware software products deployable onto a choice of infrastructure. The advantage of enabling a PaaS using an independent software product CEAP is deployment flexibility. The CEAP can be deployed on a public cloud, on a virtual private cloud, or on- premises to create a private PaaS. Having a common cloud platform internally and externally is a big win for enterprises with a hybrid cloud strategy. Gartner segments PaaS offering by primary abstraction style as: VM instance PaaS, Framework PaaS and Metadata PaaS. Metadata PaaS allows developers configure custom data objects, code, and presentation elements, creating metadata interpreted by the PaaS at runtime. These platforms enable users (including non- developers) to customize prebuilt templates. They offer visual tools to customize data models, application logic, workflow and user interfaces. Many of these platforms also offer the ability to add custom application logic using proprietary features, or build highly customized applications using familiar programming languages. Combined abstraction style, and delivery form factor: product or service, Gartner identifies G technology as a Metadata CEAP.

8. From OLTP to Cloud TP: The Third Era of Transaction Processing Aims to the Cloud, 2011 Gartner defines Cloud TP the most modern rendition of traditional OLTP and Web DTP as a computing style aimed at deploying large- scale, business- critical transactional applications in public, private and hybrid cloud environments. The specific characteristics of cloud computing (on demand, elastic availability of computing resources) fit naturally with the key design tenets for large- scale TP applications: computing parallelization, data partitioning and replication, in- memory data, and event- driven communications between application components. Gartner identifies G technology as an extreme transaction processing (XTP) specialist. User organizations engaging in large- scale TP application projects such as new business critical application developments, legacy TP downsizing, global Web commerce, multitenant software as a service (SaaS), cloud services, social software and online gaming and entertainment with demanding scalability, availability, performance and dependability requirements should take two important steps: Design these applications according to the key cloud TP design tenets. Adopt relevant enabling platform middleware technologies to reduce project costs and risks. Several XTP products such as G technology have evolved the platforms to become CEAPs and are moving toward more- comprehensive cloud- centric value propositions.

9. Key Issues for Platform Middleware, 2010 In this report, Gartner says that organization are demanding innovative middleware platforms with the following requirements: XTP- focused platform middleware providing cost- optimized, elastic scalability to support the most demanding quality- of- service requirements on commodity hardware and low- cost software technologies, enabling on- premises cloud- style architectures. Cloud computing achieves prominence in users' IT strategies as they look for more- agile application delivery models. Consequently, platform middleware designed to fit in with cloud computing SEAPs and their "as a service" renditions (APaaS) are increasingly scrutinized as alternatives to traditional platform middleware. New, open- source- based dynamic languages, such as PHP or Ruby on Rails, are more often being perceived as less expensive and more- productive alternatives to Java to Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) or.net, and compete for user- facing, Webcentric, opportunistically oriented projects. A growing number of committed Java users are turning to Java- based application frameworks (Spring, Hibernate and others) to work around the growing complexity of Java EE, thus challenging its leadership and paving the way for new platforms and vendors. These requirements have created a new competitive scenario where established standards (such as Java EE and Web services) may not evolve quickly enough to keep up with cloud requirements. SEAP and APaaS will introduce new programming models and business practices, challenging established leaders and creating opportunities for new entrants. G technology has been identified by Gartner as one of the platform middleware vendors that compete in the new scenario.

10. Microsoft AppFabric: A Platform for the Cloud Era Is Under Construction, 2010 The report analyzes the Microsoft Application Server offering and says that Microsoft has never had a product offering called an "application server. Its application server technology (which is not a named product, but which Gartner refer to as "WS application server technology") is available with WS 2008 and includes the combination of the Internet Information Server (IIS) Web server, runtime container and.net Framework code libraries (ASP.NET, Windows Workflow Foundation [WF], Windows Communication Foundation [WCF] and others). The introduction of the WS AppFabric to the technology stack has added advanced technology to Microsoft Application Server because it layers workflow and service management technologies and distributed caching technology over the latest versions of the well- established Microsoft application server technologies (including IIS,.NET Framework 4 and WPAS). Starting 2011, Microsoft expects to include some WS AppFabric functionality to its cloud platform stack referred to as WAp. The multitenancy model of Microsoft is the share- hardware because of its unique control of the OS level, the virtualization level and the application container levels of the Windows software stack. Gartner concludes that WS AppFabric represents a major step forward for Microsoft in the enterprise application server market, and it lays the foundation for greater future compatibility and interoperability between Microsoft's on- premises and in- the- cloud application platform offerings. Gartner also conclude that WS AppFabric will also challenge XTP pure- play platforms like G technology through strengths in business viability, industry support and market cloud (even if some of Microsoft's XTP technology lacks maturity compared with the XTP leaders).

11. Competitive Landscape: Extreme Transaction Processing Platforms, Worldwide, 2009 Gartner says that the extreme transaction- processing platform is an emerging platform middleware technology that supports XTP- style applications. The XTP challenge is about supporting high- end transaction- processing requirements on top of low- cost, commodity hardware and modern software architectures based on industry- standard Web- oriented technologies, including the new opportunities offered by cloud computing. Travel, telecom, online gaming and betting, financial trading, credit card processing and SaaS are the sectors identified by Gartner that will be the most affected by the emergence of XTPPs. Gartner shows the main market player and identifies G technology as a Grid- based application platform that offer comprehensive transactional application platforms, enabling applications to elastically and transparently scale up and down on the basis of service- level agreement policies while providing continuous availability and minimal planned downtime for application upgrades and server additions, disposal, and maintenance. Finally the report shows different scenarios for the future of XTP platform competition describing the following cases: Most Likely Scenario Some Large Players Invest in XTPP, and Some Specialized Players Consolidate Alternative Scenario Larger Players Cannibalize the XTPP Opportunity Alternative Scenario Large Players Ignore XTPPs, Giving Space to Innovators Least Likely Scenario XTPP Doesn't Happen

Gartner locates G technology in the visionaries quadrant and defines G as an enterprise application server based on a grid computing and advanced dynamically extensible proprietary DBMS foundations. Strengths G is a very sophisticated and advanced platform providing a wealth of functionality (multimedia content management, data federation, application integration, adapters, natural language support, metadata management, rule management, orchestration and several others) on top of the core enterprise application server functionality, in turn providing elastic scalability and shared- everything multi- tenancy support. 12. Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Servers, 2009 G Technology G has a significant installed base of approximately 500 customers, mostly mid- size organizations, using the product to run a variety of custom and packaged applications in health care, local government, financial services and other industry sectors both in Europe and Latin America. G is natively "cloud capable," and is available on top of Amazon Web Services EC2. MaatG is developing technology to support a go- to- market strategy aimed at providing various forms of "G as a service" in partnership with telecom operators and other service providers.

The description of G technology given by Gartner is: 13. Who's Who in Application Platforms for Cloud Computing: The Enterprise Generalists, 2009 The G platform has its technology roots in academic research on grid computing (glite) and in advanced DBMS technology. But, starting from the seeding technology prototyped in 2000, G has evolved to become a full- fledged application platform offering enterprise application server, portal, orchestration, data and application integration; application development tools; content management; and multimedia capabilities. The G platform is a cloud platform/seap, as it natively provides a variety of cloud- enabling features, including elastic scalability, shared processing and shared- everything multitenancy support and advanced extreme transaction processing capabilities, including a proprietary, integrated distributed caching technology. The core of the G platform is a very sophisticated, proprietary, metadata- driven DBMS supporting a dynamically extensible data model, and is also capable of federating traditional relational DBMS (RDBMS). The G platform is a combination of Java, C and Perl code, but programmers can use any combination of C, C#, Java, Perl and PHP for application development, in addition to the platform's native metadata- driven tools. The G platform has a vast installed base, but, for the most part, it supports SMBs and on- premises, single- tenant vertical applications. The advanced design of G is theoretically capable of supporting a very large number of tenants and users on a single logical instance. However, these capabilities still need to be proven in large- scale deployments, although the company is working on several high- profile, business- critical projects in the banking, healthcare, transportation and electronic fund transfer industries. Finally Gartner gives the following recommendation: Consider the G platform when looking for a multitenant, elastically scalable and transaction processing- oriented technology platform either to support apaas solutions (whether in the context of private or public cloud scenarios) or to implement SaaS offerings.

14. Cool Vendors in Platform and Integration Middleware, 2008 Gartner describes G is cool because "G" combines data management, data and application integration, application server, and development tools in an intrinsically multitenant platform. Distinctive of "G" is its innovative database management system, based on a hybrid relational/network model. Data in "G" is stored in objects that, in turn, are grouped into types. Although objects of a certain type are semantically homogeneous (for example, they are all about "customers"), the structure of each object can be different (that is, not all the customer objects hold data according to the same structure). This enables flexibility in data manipulation, provides support for a variety of query languages (XQuery, SQL and XPath), and makes it possible to federate different data sources. "G" enables distributed architectures and also comprises application development tools, an application container, an OWL- based dynamic schema builder, a job manager, Ajax support, adapters for various data sources and integration with the glite, Open Grid Services Architecture- compliant grid platform. Gartner identified the following challenges of G: "G" has been extensively proven in hundreds of projects, but its ability to support large- scale (that is, thousands of concurrent accesses and hundreds of transactions per second), business- critical deployments with high performance and scalability needs further validation. Given the originality and sophistication of "G," it is challenging to articulate a crisp, compelling and distinguishing value proposition. Finally Gartner shows who should care about G platform are: IT architects, development managers and application/data integration managers, especially those working for European companies, struggling with heterogeneous and highly distributed data sources, and looking for a data- centric, rapid application development platform with powerful data federation capabilities, should look at "G," including for SaaS- style deployments.
