NCAP Election 2015 NCAP Board of Directors President-Elect (three-year term) There are two candidates for President-Elect of NCAP. Please vote for one. Stefanie Ferreri, PharmD, BCACP, CDE, FAPhA Stefanie Ferreri is a faculty member at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She has taught nonprescription therapeutics and self-care since starting with the school. Stefanie is an editor for the Handbook of Nonprescription Drugs and the OTC Supplement for Pharmacy Today. She has presented at national and state meetings and is frequently interviewed by media outlets regarding nonprescription medications and the pharmacist s role in self-care. In addition to her self-care responsibilities, Stefanie has a passion for advancing community pharmacy practice. In particular, she is interested in embedding community pharmacists as a part of the health care team to optimize patient care. Her research interests include developing and evaluating clinical services within the community practice setting. Early in her career she developed clinical services in a regional chain pharmacy which resulted in changes to the pharmacy s workflow and the practice model. She would like to build off the foundation to influence other community pharmacies to change their model of practice. She has a particular interest in bridging the practice between inpatient and outpatient settings by keeping patients at the center of care. Stefanie has been an active member of NCAP since She has served on the residency and educational committees and has served as a delegate for North Carolina at the APhA Annual meeting three times. She also served as member-at-large on the executive board from and as the founding pharmacist member on the Medicaid Preferred Drug List Review Panel from She was recognized by NCAP as the Community Care Pharmacist of the Year in 2005 and as the Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year in Stefanie received a bachelor of science in pharmacy degree from the University of Connecticut and a doctor of pharmacy from Campbell University. She completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, CT, and a community pharmacy residency with Campbell University and Ward Drug in Nashville, NC. She lives in Durham with her husband, Eric, and their eight-year old twins, Ryan and Annabelle. I am honored to be nominated for the position of President-elect for the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. The profession of pharmacy has bountiful opportunities and North Carolina is at the forefront of leading these opportunities. It has been wonderful to practice in such a progressive state. During this time when health care is under scrutiny by legislators, it is imperative that North Carolina remains progressive in pharmacy practice. I would use my time in office to work with the Executive Committee to advocate for new opportunities for

future and existing pharmacists. As the profession changes, so must the priorities of the state association. In order to be successful we must take a proactive and united approach to advocate legislative change to benefit the profession and our patients. Collaboration will be the instrumental to this success. NCAP has made great strides collaborating with other health care provider organizations. I will continue these efforts so we can demonstrate how we improve the health outcomes of our patients to influence legislative policy. I love my academic role in influencing practice model change and developing future pharmacists. I hope to instill this same enthusiasm to NCAP. If elected, I would work to ensure that the mission of NCAP - to unite, serve and advance the profession of pharmacy for the benefit of society - is accomplished. Thank you for your consideration and I sincerely hope I can serve NCAP to promote the value of the profession. Ouita Davis Gatton, R.Ph. Ouita received her BS in biology from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC in 1984 and her pharmacy degree from UNC in After graduation, she did some consulting, infusion pharmacy, and also worked for several independents and chains. Encouraged by her father, owner of a local, independent pharmacy, Ouita joined the Kroger Pharmacy team in She has served as staff pharmacist, district clinical coordinator in NC, and Kroger Mid-Atlantic Division clinical coordinator in Roanoke, VA. While in Virginia, Ouita was responsible for coordinating all pharmacy programs not directly related to dispensing. She offered leadership to 300 pharmacists in 116 pharmacies that touch six states: NC, VA, WV, OH, TN, and KY. As a result of her position, Ouita helped spearhead passage of pharmacy immunization legislation in West Virginia in She was also profiled in APhA s magazine Pharmacy Today for her pioneer role in coordinating MTM services for Kroger. When she returned, she staffed and helped to coordinate special projects for Kroger in their NC stores and area communities. She was also very involved in the passage of the NC immunization legislation that expanded pharmacists vaccine authority in Her current role is district patient care coordinator for all the Kroger Stores in NC, and is also the residency preceptor at her site in conjunction with UNC. She is passionate about patient care and will seek out any opportunity to make it better. She is a national immunization and medication management trainer for APhA and is certified in Diabetes Care (APhA),chair elect for NCAP s Community Care Forum, cochair for NCAP s immunization committee, and has been taking students at her practice sites for over 20 years. She is a native to Raleigh, NC, an avid runner and reader, and loves being married to her husband, John, of over three years. It is an honor and privilege to be considered for the position of President-Elect for the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. I love this organization and the phenomenal pharmacists of our great state. If elected, I look forward to representing and encouraging them in the changing environment of pharmacy practice. Health care reform is here to stay and it will require a united and strong association to insure North Carolina pharmacists maintain the passion, direction, and focus of being the best pharmacists providing the best care to our patients, regardless of where we practice. If elected, I look forward to serving, with the board, to insure NC continues to have a place of strong negotiation at health care conversation tables. We need to continue to push the

message that pharmacists are the medication expert on the health care team and we need to be prepared to set the new best practice standards that will be required to take care of patients in the new health care models. We need to be a united, cohesive pharmacy community in NC that is willing to stand together among our differences and proclaim we are patient care providers, we will do what is necessary to make our selves even better, we deserve to get paid for our expertise, and we do not need to allow forces of destruction and the unknown to divide and conquer us. Today is a great time to be a North Carolina pharmacist and, if elected, I look forward to serving in its leadership. At-Large Board Member (three-year terms) There are four candidates for three positions on the Board. Please vote for three. I am committed to serving the organization and our profession to the best of my abilities in an effort to advance our profession and create clinical practice opportunities in North Carolina. The commitment, dedication and collaboration between pharmacists and healthcare providers over the next few years will be crucial as we determine the direction and pave the path for future pharmacists in all areas of practice. I believe with challenges come many opportunities and we have the knowledge and skills to offer patients and providers as we face the uncertainties in our current healthcare environment. Thank you for your support!

Jamie N. Brown, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP Jamie N. Brown, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2006 and then completed an ASHP-accredited specialty residency in Drug Information with Campbell University. This past year, Jamie was also recognized as the recipient of the NCAP Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award and received the Hospital Practice Preceptor of the Year Award from the Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences class of I am honored to be considered as a candidate for the NCAP Board of Directors. North Carolina has always been a leader in advancing the practice of pharmacy and it is NCAP that has driven much of this success by taking an active role in shaping our profession s future. With pharmacy practice at the crossroads of a changing healthcare landscape, I look forward to working with the Association and with pharmacists from across the state to create a unified voice and continue to move the profession in a positive direction. In addition, I think that there are opportunities to make membership more attractive and recruit more of our colleagues to become involved. This will strengthen the impact of the Association and allow us to provide even more quality services to our members. Thank you for your support and I look forward to serving NCAP. Stephen E. Kearney, Jr., PharmD

He is a Deacon at Salem Baptist Church and currently co-teaches the 9 th grade Bible Fellowship Group with his wife Lori and co-leads a community outreach program at the Duke Pediatric Bone Marrow Unit. I would consider it a great privilege to serve the Pharmacy community as an At-Large- Member of the NCAP Board. There are tremendous opportunities for Pharmacy in the transition from fee for service to outcomes based medicine. I believe we need strong leadership to educate all pharmacists on those opportunities and that NCAP needs to provide resources for all of pharmacy to be successful in this ever changing environment. I look forward to working with the other board members, executive committee and pharmacy as a whole to help develop and promote these resources. Macary Weck Marciniak, PharmD, BCACP, BCPS, FAPhA Macary Marciniak is Clinical Associate Professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Macary s involvement with NCAP dates back to her time as a student at UNC. She was an intern for the association at the time that NCAP was created and was a member of the NCAP Program Committee and Legal/Regulatory Affairs Committee. Since returning to North Carolina, Macary jumped right back in to NCAP service opportunities. Macary is currently completing her second term as a Member-at-large on the Community Care Practice Forum Executive Committee. She is the co-chair of the Immunization Committee and has served as a member of the group since its inception. Macary is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), APhA, ASHP, Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI), PDC, and Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS). Macary has been honored with the PLEI Albert B. Prescott Leadership Award, the Pharmacists Mutual Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award, and the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists Outstanding Chapter Advisor Award. It is an honor to be considered for a Member-at-Large position on the NCAP Board of Directors. I believe that it is important to be an active member of professional organizations our voices need to be heard and our ideas for the future of pharmacy practice need to be implemented. Margaret Mead once said, Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. I really believe this to be true. Over the past seven years, through my roles in the Community Care Practice Forum and Immunization Committee, I have worked with the other elected officers and interested members to change practice in North Carolina. Through these positions, I have attended Board Meetings and observed our key discussions. If elected to serve on the Board, I will represent the needs of all of our members and help us continue to expand the impact and positive influence of NCAP in our state and across the nation. This is certainly an exciting time for NCAP as we develop a new strategic plan and tackle key issues like practice advancement, provider status, payment for services, and selection of an Executive Director. My previous experience within NCAP as well as other pharmacy organizations provides me with the necessary leadership experience, ingenuity in order to solve problems, and the ability to meet the needs of others in order to take our Association to greater heights. I sincerely appreciate the nomination I would love the opportunity to continue to serve NCAP and work with you to promote the profession.
