11 3. Transfer students must satisfy all criteria for admission to the Education Department by the end of their second semester at Flagler. 4. Students who transfer to Flagler after two years of college often cannot complete degree requirements for majors in Education at Flagler College in the standard eight semesters. Students should contact the Chairman of the Education Department and request an evaluation of the time necessary to complete their programs before submitting the advanced payment to confirm their intentions to enroll. 5. Participation in intercollegiate team sports and other extracurricular activities may not interfere with pre-service professional obligations and requirements. Students who participate in extracurricular activities, including individual and team sports, will not be able to do so in the final semester of internship. 6. The student is responsible to make application for student teaching by the announced deadline during the year previous to the requested assignment. An internship fee, presently $300, is charged to cover the cost of various plans for remuneration of directing teachers. 7. In addition to meeting departmental requirements for graduation, students must satisfy requirements for certification established by the Florida State Department of Education. State regulations change from time to time, and community college transfer students majoring in education should contact the Chairman of the Education Department regarding changes which may affect their eligibility for certification. 8. Graduates are required by State law to pass the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE) to receive a 5-year Professional Level Teaching Certificate. Flagler College requires passing scores on the FTCE before students are assigned to their 16-week internship. Students completing their degree requirements must contact their advisor if they have questions related to teacher certification. 9. The teacher education programs at Flagler are State Approved, which means that they meet the standards prescribed by the Florida Department of Education. This State Approved status enables Flagler graduates to be certified in Florida and in those states that participate in the Interstate Certification Agreement Compact.
