2 NOVA is The second largest community college in the United States and one of the most diverse colleges in the US with students representing over 150 nationalities. 2

4 NOVA S increasing enrollment and projections: Spring % increase Fall % increase Spring % increase For Fall 2009, online enrollment grew 29%. If this was a campus, it would be our third largest campus. On average, one out of every five Northern Virginia public high school graduates attends NOVA. For more and more people, NOVA represents their personal economic recovery plan. Today s funding cuts threaten tomorrow s jobs. Many of today s most promising career fields, including medicine, energy and engineering require the technical training community colleges offer in real time. 4

7 PROVIDING AN AFFORDABLE PATH students are rethinking plans to attend expensive private colleges and universities. High unemployment rates and decimated stock portfolios have driven families to find less-expensive alternatives. 7

8 GETTING STUDENTS READY TO WORK Community colleges are able to adapt quickly in changing winds. They often partner with local businesses and can generate continuing-education courses mid-semester in response to industry needs, getting students in and out and ready to work fast. 8
