My office was also responsible for managing our relationships with minority and women owned businesses through the dollars that we spend throughout the Oregon region in contracting, procurement and services. A
2 significant part of my responsibility involved representing Providence Health and Services in meetings involving public officials. December, 2006 to January, 2008 Regional Director of Employment Providence Health and Services Directed the activities and strategy of 27 FTE in the sourcing, recruitment and selection of personnel for the Oregon region of this outstanding healthcare institution with over 15,000 employees in the Oregon region. Provided strategic direction, coaching, development and budgetary oversight for the department s management staff and employees. I also developed performance metrics for our recruiters and trained them on active sourcing/screening techniques. The department contained other programs in addition to the core recruiting related activities such as School Outreach and a Resource Pool that aided displaced employees in their attempt to remain with our organization. July 2002 to December 2006 Vice President-Human Resources Unitus Community Credit Union Full service HR function (compensation, benefits, labor relations, employee relations, training/organizational development and recruiting/selection) for an employee population of just over 220 employees. Provided direct management of the performance of an HR Assistant, HRIS/Payroll Administrator, and two Training and Development Specialists. Reported directly to the CEO and served as a member of the organization s senior leadership team. November 2000-July 2002 Staffing Manager NIKE Incorporated Managed the staffing and recruiting activities for a team of six recruiters as well as serving on the Staffing Department s Management Team. Provided employees with coaching and performance evaluations as well as feedback coaching. Resurrected the Nike Internship Program from a low of 33 interns in 2000 to a high of 92 interns in I also added significant diversity to the internship ranks via a strong affiliation with Inroads Incorporated and working with community-based organizations. 2
3 November 1994-November 2000 Vice President, Human Resources Colonial Pacific Leasing Managed a full service HR function in a financial services organization that was originally owned by Pitney Bowes Financial Services and subsequently sold to General Electric Capital. Provided counsel and coaching to the business unit president and executive team via meetings and management notes, which were published weekly. Developed and delivered in-house training programs and 360 feedback interpretations as well as starting a diversity sourcing program for vendors. I also managed the Administrative Services function of the business and had a total of 17 direct reports in both HR and Administrative Services for whom I provided coaching, feedback and career development. October 1993-Novemeber 1994 HR Director City of Gresham Oregon Full service city with three bargaining units, (police, fire and General unit). Managed a staff of six HR professionals in all phases of HR service. Directed the recruitment of all professional personnel for city service and negotiated collective bargaining agreements. Developed and delivered training sessions on organizational diversity as well as planning and executing a highly successful Martin Luther King Day celebration for all city employees and their families. October 1988-October 1993 State of Oregon Military Department Department of Transportation Department of Administrative Services I began my career in state service as the Secretary, General Staff for the Adjutant General of the Oregon National Guard. In this role, I directed the activities of his staff as well as planning and executing the first Chief of Staff s Conference ever held for Senior National Guard Officers in the United States outside of the Washington DC area. I also served as the State Labor Relations Officer as well as holding command positions as a drilling Guardsman. 3
4 I also served as the Battalion S-1 (Personnel Officer) for the 218 th Field Artillery Battalion. I was recruited away from the Oregon Military Department to join the Oregon Department of Transportation as the agency s first Regional Personnel Officer. The Portland Region is ODOT s largest with over 600 ODOT employees and 300 employees in offices of the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles. I provided employee and managerial counseling, labor contract administration as well as training and development services for all staff. My career in state service took me back to Salem at the request of senior state officials to assume responsibility for the Career Services Department in the Department of Administrative Services. In this position I managed 20 direct reports, who provided services to state agencies in the areas of test design, administration, return to work programs for injured workers and management training. We also delivered the mentoring program for all state employees. I coached, counseled and guided the careers of my direct reports, several of whom were selected for promotions in other state agencies. February 1983-October 1988 HR Manager Nike Incorporated I was the organization s first HR manager and put into place many of the core systems and process that are still utilized by the company today. I also hired several employees who are now in senior level positions in the company their world headquarters in areas such as: HR, Logistics, Marketing, Sales and Product Development. I created the Nike internal temporary pool which, helped individuals with disabilities and diverse backgrounds gain valuable experience that helped them successfully compete for open positions in the company.
