1 Fact Sheet March 215 The company s Canadian operations are comprised primarily of natural gas fields in western Canada and oil sand projects in the Athabasca region of northeastern Alberta. Current investment programs are focused on liquids-rich and tight oil plays in western Canada, with minimal investment in dry gas. The company also holds significant acreage in emerging unconventional plays, where drilling and seismic activities are ongoing to assess potential. The business has a long-term strategic plan to develop a full portfolio that includes bitumen, liquids, light oil and natural gas. ConocoPhillips steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) projects in the Canadian oil sands represent a net resource of 15 billion barrels that offers growing, long-lived production. These are projects where technology improvements can contribute significant economic and environmental benefits to the large resource base and add value to the company s portfolio. 214 Production 284 Thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day 214 Proved Reserves 2.5 Billion barrels of oil equivalent ConocoPhillips Average Daily Net Production, 214 Crude Oil NGL Bitumen Natural Gas Total Area Interest Operator (MBD) (MBD) (MBD) (MMCFD) (MBOED) Deep Basin Various Various Kaybob-Edson Various Various Clearwater Various Various Plains Various Various Western Canada Total Surmont 5.% ConocoPhillips Foster Creek* 5.% Cenovus Energy Christina Lake* 5.% Cenovus Energy Oil Sands Total Canada Total * Equity affiliate Foster Creek and Christina Lake (FCCL). 214 Production Mix Production Production Capital Capital 214 Production 214 Capital Program 42% Natural Gas 5% Crude Oil 8% NGL MBOED $ Millions % Bitumen 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q See page 8 for Cautionary Statement pertaining to the use of this fact sheet. 1
2 Fact Sheet March 215 Western Canada ConocoPhillips is one of the top natural gas producers in Canada. In 214, total net production averaged 155 MBOED. Operations are located primarily in Alberta and British Columbia, with some production in Saskatchewan. The company has an ownership position in approximately 8 natural gas processing facilities in the region. As of Dec. 31, 214, the company held leasehold rights of 5.7 million net acres in western Canada. Deep Basin ConocoPhillips is one of the largest operators and producers in the Deep Basin, located in northwest Alberta and northeast British Columbia. As of Dec. 31, 214, the company held leasehold rights of 1.4 million net acres in this area. The Deep Basin provides production potential from 14 prospective geological formations. It is a mature area that was historically developed with conventional vertical well technology. ConocoPhillips has shifted to horizontal drilling in its development programs to unlock the vast resource potential in the tight sand plays. The company drilled 12 horizontal wells in 214, which were all liquids-rich opportunities. The primary processing facility in the Deep Basin is the ConocoPhillips-operated Elmworth Plant. The company holds significant working interests in seven other major natural gas processing facilities in the region. In 214, net production in the Deep Basin averaged 44 MBOED. 3 Elmworth Gas Plant. Kaybob-Edson As of Dec. 31, 214 the company held leasehold rights of.9 million net acres in the Kaybob-Edson Area, which is situated southeast of the Deep Basin in west-central Alberta. Target development is in the Triassic and Lower Cretaceous formations where the industry has de-risked several highly-prolific zones in offsetting acreage. The company drilled 36 horizontal wells in 214, focusing development efforts on higher-margin plays with liquids-rich content. In the Kaybob-Edson Area, natural gas processing is mostly controlled by midstream operators and other oil and gas companies. ConocoPhillips has secured favorable longerterm contracts to manage both existing base and new development volumes. Net production in Kaybob-Edson averaged 41 MBOED in 214. Clearwater The Clearwater Area is also situated in westcentral Alberta, south of Kaybob-Edson. As of Dec. 31, 214, the company held leasehold rights of.8 million net acres. ConocoPhillips assets in the Clearwater Area are characterized by multi-horizon reservoirs at medium depths ranging from 6,5 feet to 1, feet, all with high-liquids content. This is a mature area historically developed with conventional vertical well technology, giving the company a series of low-risk horizontal drilling development programs. In 214, the company drilled 39 horizontal wells. The company operates several natural gas processing facilities in the area including Peco, Wolf, Sand Creek, Alder and Rimbey. Average net production was 41 MBOED in 214. Plains Assets outside of the three core development areas are focused on production optimization. As of Dec. 31, 214, the Plains assets held 2.6 million net acres. Average production was 29 MBOED in
4 Fact Sheet March 215 Oil Sands ConocoPhillips holds approximately.9 million net acres of land in the Athabasca Region of northeastern Alberta. The significant bitumen deposits on these lands are estimated to contain approximately 15 billion net barrels of resources, making ConocoPhillips the holder of one of the largest land and resource positions in the region. ConocoPhillips bitumen resources in Canada are produced using SAGD technology. SAGD involves injection of steam into the reservoir, effectively liquefying the heavy bitumen, which then is recovered and pumped to the surface for further processing. ConocoPhillips net bitumen production from the Surmont operations and FCCL Partnership has grown by an average of 24 percent annually over the past three years. This resulted in production of 129 MBD in 214, ranking it second among SAGD producers in Canada. ConocoPhillips has a number of ongoing development projects and further opportunities in these assets. Thornbury, Crow Lake, McMillan Lake and Saleski Operator: ConocoPhillips (1%) ConocoPhillips holds other lands in the Athabasca Region that contain substantial bitumen resources. These resources have been evaluated using 2-D and 3-D seismic surveys and well data. The resources are expected to be developed using SAGD technology. 5 Surmont 2 development in northeastern Alberta. Surmont Operator: ConocoPhillips (5.%) Co-venturer: Total (5.%) The Surmont Project is an important part of the company s oil sands portfolio, located in the Athabasca Region of northeastern Alberta, approximately 35 miles southeast of Fort McMurray. The project began as a pilot project with the construction of a small SAGD facility located near the company s current operations. The pilot was built in 1997 and is still in use today to support existing operations and test new technology applications. Commercial production from Surmont 1 began in 27. In the second quarter of 214, a new quarterly gross production record of 3 MBD was achieved for this field. In 21, ConocoPhillips commenced construction of Surmont 2, with first-steam expected in mid-215. Following startup, Surmont s total gross production capacity is estimated to be 15 MBD, with peak production anticipated by 217. The Surmont lease has the potential for significant additional future expansions. Over the life of this 4-year project, Surmont will provide many social and economic benefits to the area. 5
6 Fact Sheet March 215 FCCL Partnership Operator: Cenovus Energy (5.%) Co-venturer: ConocoPhillips (5.%) ConocoPhillips has a 5/5 upstream business venture with Cenovus Energy. The partnership includes Foster Creek, Christina Lake, Narrows Lake and other properties located on the eastern flank of the Athabasca region.
