Universities ADFA Open Day Sat 29th August, 9.00am 4.00pm, Northcott Drive in Campbell, ACT Defence and University staff will be available to provide careers and course information. ADFA Navy Midshipmen and Army and Air Force Officer Cadets will also be available to talk to attendees about life at ADFA. Open Day will also provide an opportunity to see a range of displays from the Army, Navy and Airforce.

University Experience allows students to seek insight into their area of interest and gain a hands-on understanding of their future degree with activities and displays. Griffith University: Careers in Commerce Friday 17 th Sir Samuel Griffith Centre (N78), Lecture Theatre, Griffith University Year 11 and 12 students are invited to find out about the range of careers available in the commerce field. The day features presentations by professionals that have used their commerce qualifications to forge successful careers. Hear from current and former students about SCU and match up future careers with courses. QUT: Resources for Secondary School Students QUT has a broad range of resources designed to help prospective undergraduate students become familiar with what s on offer at QUT. Take a short Match My Skills Quiz to discover courses suited to you. Visit Student Sharehouse Blog to hear about good and bad experiences or a current student. Tour the campus online and follow QUT through social media. USC Parent Lounge Uni can be a big leap, USC s Parent Lounge has all the info to help you answer those tricky questions. There is information on getting into uni, programs, university life, accommodation, transport and more. USQ Careers Day (Ipswich) Thursday 30 th July, 8:30am - USQ Ipswich Students in years 7-10 are invited to attend this careers day to kick-start their discovery in deciding their ideal career path. There will be interactive career workshops and info sessions to inform students about career pathways. TAFE & Apprenticeships Australian Apprenticeship Support Network A new Australian Apprenticeship Support Network has been developed, involving eleven organisations who will deliver advice to current and future apprentices. This includes an increase in the amount of support provided in rural and remote areas. This will involve the creation of Skills Service Organisations to support industries as they take on added responsibility for training. The policy also intends to further nationalize the VET system to allow added interstate employment opportunities for students. Read more: Private Colleges AIE Online Experience Day Thursday 25 th June, 12.30pm 4.00pm AEST Course overview sessions will be running on the range of online courses in 3D animation, game programming and game design offered by AIE. Australian College of Applied Psychology: Information Session Wednesday 15 th July, ACAP Brisbane Campus Find out about the courses offered at ACAP. Take a tour of the campus and speak with staff and students. Design College Information Session Wednesday 27 th May, 6pm Barry Parade, Fortitude Valley Students interested in graphic design or photography can attend this information session to find out about studying full time or part time, the course outline, and more. Shillington College Information Session Friday 3 rd July, Shillington College, Level 7, 167 Ann Street, Brisbane. Find out about studying a course in graphic design at Shillington College. Other News AFS Scholarships Applications are now open and close Wednesday 1 st July AFS offers over 60 scholarships to Australian students to participate in AFS programs. These public scholarships are open to most students in years 9-12 across the country and have varying criteria. Career Interest Explorer This resource on the Australian Apprenticeships Pathways website helps students identify possible career interests as a tool to narrow down potential career pathways and areas where they could develop skills. It also shows specific courses that can be taken in the areas the student expresses interest in.
4 China Engineering Experience Engineering Link Group are running a 12 day tour of China for students to find out about railway engineering and to form connections with the East China JiaoTong University. The trip will run 29th November 11th December Students with an interest in engineering who also want the experience of travelling to China should consider applying. Register your interest as soon as you can the first deposit is due 31st July. Contact: admin@telg.com.au To read about a student s previous experiences with Engineering Link Projects: Mission Australia Youth Survey 2015 Mission Australia s Youth Survey is the nation s largest online annual temperature check of teenagers aged between 15 and 19. The aim is to find out what concerns young people have on a personal and national level. The survey should only take about 15 minutes to complete and will close Friday 31 st July. My Health Career: Nursing is Not a Back-up Career Registered nurse Laurie Bickhoff explains why nursing should not be seen as a back-up career choice. National Reconciliation Week National Reconciliation Week celebrates the national reconciliation effort and Australia s indigenous history. A variety of events will be held around the country throughout May and June; these events include seminars, festivals, workshops and more. A calendar of events can be found on the official website. Wednesday 27 th May - Wednesday 3 rd June Service Skills Australia The Service Skills website provides information, resources and videos about a variety of careers in the Sport, Fitness & Recreation, Tourism, Travel & Hospitality, and Wholesale, Retail & Personal Services sectors. Special Tertiary Admission Test STAT is used by many tertiary institutions in Australia as part of their admissions procedure for certain applicants. Sunshine Coast Council: Lynda.com Members of the Sunshine Coast Library can get free access to Lynda.com for free video tutorials to develop technical, business and creative skills. Find it in the Learn Online section of the Library website: Video Matsuri Contest 2015 Produce a short film up to 3 minutes in length that includes the Japanese language. Entry categories range from primary to tertiary levels of education with only one rule: somewhere in the film must be a clock. Entries due by Friday 25 th September Work Matters Video The first time a student enters a workplace can be incredibly intimidating, whether it s for a part-time job or work experience. This video follows three young people and gives advice on ways to deal appropriately with different workplace scenarios in an attempt to make entering the workforce a positive experience for students and their employers.
