One of our many successful partnerships involved putting together a committee of students to look at social media at State Street, an area we were just beginning to explore. We asked the students to look at how State Street could collaborate and share information. The students did the research and put their findings in a video, which, ultimately, helped influence the direction we took. Business partnerships with education and Bridgewater State University in particular are critically important in today s world, not only for the students, but also, and importantly, for the businesses who, among many other benefits, have the opportunity to help shape tomorrow s workforce. 6 The Brockton Area Workforce Investment Board is a broker for different types of community partnerships. Our long-standing relationship with Bridgewater lets us expand beyond the city of Brockton to the entire region, allowing us to help businesses access any number of economic development opportunities. Partnerships take various forms from youth entrepreneurship programs to research projects, curriculum development, career awareness programs and more. We even participated in a trade mission to Cape Verde that resulted in a successful partnership with a local business, which launched an at-work program to teach English as a second language to its 90-percent Cape Verdean staff.
