1 Introduction 1.1 Introduction CQ5 is the next generation product from Day, moving forward with functionality while continuing our commitment to standards. The product has been completely redesigned, and rewritten, which introduces a lot of new concepts and terminology. 1.2 Purpose of this Document To provide a quick reference of key terms used throughout the documentation. 1.3 Target Audience All persons involved with CQ5 Page 1 of 16

2 Glossary of Terms The following Glossary holds information related to terms and technologies referenced within the technical documentation. Advanced Collaboration AJAX Advanced Collaboration was the CQ4 term for Social Collaboration. See Also Social Collaboration. Asynchronous Javascript And XML is a web development technique used for creating interactive web applications. AJAX is based on the XMLHttpRequest to offer asynchronous updates to a web page. The intent is to make web pages feel more responsive by exchanging small amounts of data with the server "behind the scenes." This means that the entire web page does not have to be reloaded each time the user requests a change. This is intended to increase the speed, functionality, and usability of the web-page. Ajax is asynchronous in that extra data is requested from the server and loaded in the background without interfering with the display or behavior of the existing page. JavaScript is the scripting language in which Ajax function calls are usually made. Data is retrieved using the XMLHttpRequest object that is available to scripting languages run in modern browsers. There is, however, no requirement that the asynchronous content is formatted in XML. Ajax is a cross-platform technique usable on many different operating systems, computer architectures, and web browsers. It is based on open standards such as JavaScript and the DOM, with free and open source implementations of suitable frameworks. See Also XMLHttpRequest. Apache Felix Felix is a community project to implement the OSGi R4 Service Platform. It includes the OSGi framework and standard services, as well as providing and supporting other OSGi-related technologies. The ultimate goal is to provide a completely compliant implementation of the OSGi framework and standard services and to support a community around this technology. Felix currently implements a large portion of the OSGi release 4 specification, but additional work is necessary for full compliance. Despite this fact, the OSGi framework functionality provided by Felix is very stable. See Also The Felix website at the Apache Foundation.. API An Application Programming Interface is a source code interface that an operating system or library provides to support requests for services to be made of it by computer programs. Page 2 of 16

applet author environment black-box An applet is a program written in the Java programming language that can be included in an HTML page, much in the same way an image is included in a page. When you use a browser (which has been enabled for Java technology) to view a page that contains an applet, the applet's code is transferred to your system and executed by the browser's Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The CQ5 environment where users input their content, and administrators administrate the entire system. See Also publish environment. This refers to a sealed black-box where no information is provided about the contents. This term is used in the context of testing where the complete unit is tested without any information of the internal workings. BPM Business Process Management. The management of business processes related to web content by use of defined workflows. See Also workflow engine. bundle (OSGi) The OSGi core specification defines a bundle to be a Java Archive (JAR) file whose manifest (the META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file) contains specific headers identifying the bundle. Most manifest headers are optional with defined default values. To identify the bundle as an R4 bundle, the: Bundle-SymbolicName header should be defined Bundle-ManifestVersion header should be set to 2 Other information defined in the manifest include: the bundle version the list of packages: exported provided to other bundles imported used required to be provided by other bundles See Also The OSGi Service Platform Core Specification for a complete list of the defined bundle manifest headers.. CFC Prior to CQ5 the Communiqué Foundation Classes form a library containing all authoring templates and objects e.g. Image Mapper, Image Cropping, Charting, Rich Edit etc. Within CQ5 the Communiqué Foundation Classes have been replaced by widgets. See Also widgets. CND The Compact Namespace and Node Type Definition (CND) notation provides a compact standardized syntax for defining Page 3 of 16

node types and making namespace declarations. The notation is intended both for documentation and for programmatically registering node types (if you are unfamiliar with JCR node types, you may want to read the general Node Types section first). See Also Node Type Notation on the Jackrabbit website at the Apache Foundation.. component A software component is a system element offering a predefined service or event, and able to communicate with other components. Within CQ5 a component represents the code which is used to render the content. A component may be any Java class which implements the com.day.components.component interface. Being contentcentric, component instances may be loaded from the repository, or may also be implemented as normal Java classes available from the class path. A component may be built up of widgets and/or other components. See Also widget. content-centric CQ5 CQ5 Collab CQ5 DAM CQ5 WCM CRX CSS DAM deep / shallow mode DCL DOM CQ5 basically provides access to, and renders, the content items by their path. Therefore it is the content which is the center of focus. Encompassing term for Communiqué 5, and all component products; including Web Content Management, Digital Asset Management and Advanced Collaboration. CQ5 Social Collaboration. See Also Social Collaboration. CQ5 Digital Asset Management. See Also DAM. CQ5 Web Content Management system. See Also WCM. Content Repository Extreme. Day's own JSR-170 compliant content repository. Cascading Style Sheets Digital Asset Management. See Also CQ5 DAM. This indicates whether the operation affects only the content element selected (shallow), or also all subnodes located underneath (deep). Day Commons Library The Document Object Model is a platform- and languageindependent standard object model for representing HTML or XML and related formats. A web browser is not obliged to use DOM in order to render an HTML document. Page 4 of 16

However, the DOM is required by JavaScript scripts that wish to inspect or modify a web page dynamically. In other words, the Document Object Model is the way JavaScript sees its containing HTML page and browser state. The DOM supports navigation in any direction (e.g. parent and previous sibling). Therefore it allows for arbitrary modifications, an implementation must at least buffer the document that has been read so far (or some parsed form of it). Hence the DOM is likely to be best suited for applications where the document must be accessed repeatedly or out of sequence order. If the application is strictly sequential and one-pass, the SAX model is likely to be faster and use less memory. In addition, non-extractive XML parsing models, such as VTD-XML, provide a new memoryefficient option. See Also Drools Drools is an Object-Oriented Rule Engine for Java. Drools is an augmented implementation of Forgy's Rete algorithm tailored for the Java language. Adapting Rete to an object-oriented interface allows for more natural expression of business rules with regards to business objects. More importantly, Drools provides for declarative logic programming and is flexible enough to match the semantics of your problem domain. The various parts that compose a rule may be extended to lend domain-specific sense to the rule. DMZ ECMAScript entries.xml Eclipse Equinox Demilitarized Zone. A subnetwork within an orgnization that exposes the external services (for example and website) of the organization to a untrusted network (such as the Internet). Security is added by preventing hosts in the DMZ from establishing contact with other hosts in the rest of the organization's internal network. ECMAScript is a scripting programming language, standardized by Ecma International in the ECMA-262 specification. The language is widely used on the web, and is often referred to as JavaScript or JScript, after the two primary dialects of the specification. The entries.xml holds information about the files and directories under vault control (FileVault). IDE used for development with CQ5. Eclipse is an open source project. See Also IDE. If Sling is launched as a web application, the Equinox HTTP Servlet is used as the OSGi HttpService implementation to link the HTTP servlet into the servlet container through the Sling servlet. From a code point of view, Equinox is an implementation of the OSGi R4 core framework specification, a set of bundles that implement various optional OSGi services and other infrastructure for running OSGi-based systems. More generally, the goal of the Equinox project is to be a first class OSGi community and foster the vision of Eclipse as a landscape of bundles. As part of this, it is responsible for developing and delivering the OSGi framework implementation used for all of Eclipse. Page 5 of 16

See Also Extranet Felix FileVault FQCN Geometrixx An extranet is a private network that uses Internet protocols, network connectivity, and possibly the public telecommunication system to securely share part of an organization's information or operations with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers or other businesses. An extranet can be viewed as part of a company's Intranet that is extended to users outside the company (e.g.: normally over the Internet). An Apache project to implement the OSGi R4 Service Platform. See Also Apache Felix. Provides subversion functionality, such as check-out/check-in, for repository content (CRX). Fully Qualified Class Name. A demonstration website included with CQ5 WCM. Includes the configuration information (widgets, components, templates, etc) and content needed to demonstrate the usage, and capabilities of CQ5 WCM. GUI Hibernate Graphical User Interface. Hibernate is a powerful, high performance object/relational persistence and query service. Hibernate lets you develop persistent classes following object-oriented idiom including association, inheritance, polymorphism, composition, and collections. Hibernate allows you to express queries in its own portable SQL extension (HQL), as well as in native SQL, or with an object-oriented Criteria and Example API. Unlike many other persistence solutions, Hibernate does not hide the power of SQL from you and guarantees that your investment in relational technology and knowledge is as valid as always. The LGPL open source license allows the use of Hibernate and NHibernate in open source and commercial projects. See Also HTML IDE HyperText Markup Language. An Integrated Development Environment is a software application that provides comprehensive facilities to computer programmers for software development. An IDE normally consists of a source code editor, a compiler and/ or interpreter, build automation tools, and (usually) a debugger. Sometimes a version control system and various tools are integrated to simplify the construction of a GUI. Many modern IDEs also have a class browser, an object inspector, and a class hierarchy diagram, for use with object oriented software development. IDEs are designed to maximise programmer productivity by providing tightly-knit components with similar user interfaces, thus minimising the amount of mode switching the programmer must do comparing to loose, discrete collections of disparate development programs. Page 6 of 16

Eclipse and IntelliJ are the IDEs used with CQ5. IntelliJ Internet Intranet Java Commercial IDE used for development with CQ5. See Also IDE. The Internet is a worldwide, publicly accessible series of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP). It is a "network of networks" that consists of millions of smaller domestic, academic, business, and government networks, which together carry various information and services, such as electronic mail, online chat, file transfer, and the interlinked web pages and other resources of the World Wide Web (WWW). An intranet is a private computer network that uses Internet protocols and network connectivity to insecurely share part of an organization's information or operations with its employees. Java is a programming language originally developed by Sun Microsystems and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun's Java platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++ but has a simpler object model and fewer low-level facilities. Java applications are typically compiled to bytecode which can run on any Java virtual machine (JVM) regardless of computer architecture. The original and reference implementation Java compilers, virtual machines, and class libraries were developed by Sun from As of May 2007, in compliance with the specifications of the Java Community Process, Sun made available most of their Java technologies as free software under the GNU General Public License. Others have also developed alternative implementations of these Sun technologies, such as the GNU Compiler for Java and GNU Classpath. Javascript JavaScript is a scripting language, often used for client-side web development. It was the originating dialect of the ECMAScript standard. It is a dynamic, weakly typed, prototype-based language with first-class functions. JavaScript was influenced by many languages and was designed to have a similar look to Java, but be easier for nonprogrammers to work with. The language is best known for its use in websites (as client-side JavaScript), but is also used to enable scripting access to objects embedded in other applications (for example Microsoft Gadgets in Windows Vista Sidebar). Despite the name, JavaScript is essentially unrelated to the Java programming language, though both have a common debt to C syntax, and JavaScript copies many Java names and naming conventions. JavaServer Pages JavaServer Pages. See Also JSP. Page 7 of 16

Java Virtual Machine A Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is a set of computer software programs and data structures which use a virtual machine model for the execution of other computer programs and scripts. The model used by a JVM accepts a form of computer intermediate language commonly referred to as Java bytecode. This language conceptually represents the instruction set of a stack-oriented, capability architecture. The JVM is a crucial component of the Java Platform. Because JVMs are available for many hardware and software platforms, Java can be both middleware and a platform in its own right hence the expression "write once, run anywhere." The use of the same bytecode for all platforms allows Java to be described as "compile once, run anywhere," as opposed to "write once, compile anywhere," which describes cross-platform compiled languages. The JVM also enables such unique features as Automated Exception Handling which provides 'root-cause' debugging information for every software error (exception) independent of the source code. JCR JCR is the Java Content Repository standard. It is also known as JSR-170 after its Java Specification Request. Content Repository API for Java (JCR) is a specification for a Java platform API for accessing content repositories in a uniform manner. The content repositories are used in content management systems to keep the content data and also the metadata used in CMS such as versioning meta-data. The specification was developed under the Java Community Process as JSR-170 (Version 1) and as JSR-283 (Version 2). The main Java package is javax.jcr. A JCR is a type of Object Database tailored to the storage, searching, and retrieval of hierarchical data. The JCR API grew out of the needs of content management systems, which require storage of documents and other binary objects with associated metadata. However the API is applicable to many types of applications. In addition to object storage the JCR provides APIs for versioning of data, transactions, observation of changes in data, and import or export of data to XML in a standard way. JSON JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight datainterchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. It is based on a subset of the JavaScript Programming Language, Standard ECMA-262 3rd Edition - December JSON is a text format that is completely language independent but uses conventions that are familiar to programmers of the C-family of languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python, and many others. These properties make JSON an ideal data-interchange language. JSON is built on two structures: A collection of name/value pairs. In various languages, this is realized as an object, record, struct, dictionary, hash table, keyed list, or associative array. Page 8 of 16

An ordered list of values. In most languages, this is realized as an array, vector, list, or sequence. JSP JSR JSR-170 Maven JavaServer Pages. See Also JavaServer Pages. Java Specification Request The JSR that specifies a standard API to access content repositories in Java 2 independently of implementation. See Also JCR. Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Based on the concept of a project object model (POM), Maven can manage a project s build, reporting and documentation from a central piece of information. Maven, a Yiddish word meaning accumulator of knowledge, was originally started as an attempt to simplify the build processes in the Jakarta Turbine project. There were several projects each with their own Ant build files that were all slightly different and JARs were checked into CVS. We wanted a standard way to build the projects, a clear definition of what the project consisted of, an easy way to publish project information and a way to share JARs across several projects. The result is a tool that can now be used for building and managing any Java-based project. We hope that we have created something that will make the day-today work of Java developers easier and generally help with the comprehension of any Java-based project. See Also manifest file JAR files support a wide range of functionality, including electronic signing, version control, package sealing, and others. What gives a JAR file this versatility? The answer is the JAR file's manifest. The manifest is a special file that can contain information about the files packaged in a JAR file. By tailoring this "meta" information that the manifest contains, you enable the JAR file to serve a variety of purposes. Physically, a bundle correspond to a delivery and deployment unit that is materialized by a JAR file that contains code and resources (i.e., images, libraries, etc.) along with a file that contains information about the bundle, the manifest file. microjax (µjax / ujax) µjax is a client side javascript persistence layer that leverages the symbiosis of a (JCR compliant) Content Repository and the agile patterns of browser based ajax development, to form a completely new way of developing applications. µjax is a part of Apache Sling. µjax uses XHR & JSON based AJAX techniques to retrieve content and uses regular form input to write content. As an important differentiator to other Ajax frameworks µjax focuses on adding an efficient server side persistence layer. It does not focus on providing a rich application framework with components, widgets or visual effects. µjax can be combined with any Ajax framework of your choosing. Page 9 of 16

mixin In object-oriented programming languages, a mixin is a class that provides a certain functionality to be inherited by a subclass, but is not meant to stand alone. Inheriting from a mixin is not a form of specialization but is rather a means to collect functionality. A class may inherit most or all of its functionality by inheriting from one or more mixins through multiple inheritance. Log4J In the Java language where a preprocessor is not available, log statements increase the size of the code and reduce its speed, even when logging is turned off. Given that a reasonably sized application may contain thousands of log statements, speed is of particular importance. With log4j it is possible to enable logging at runtime without modifying the application binary. The log4j package is designed so that these statements can remain in shipped code without incurring a heavy performance cost. Logging behavior can be controlled by editing a configuration file, without touching the application binary. One of the distinctive features of log4j is the notion of inheritance in loggers. Using a logger hierarchy it is possible to control which log statements are output at arbitrarily fine granularity but also with great ease. This helps reduce the volume of logged output and minimize the cost of logging. OSGI The OSGi Alliance is an independent non-profit corporation comprised of technology innovators and developers and focused on the interoperability of applications and services based on its component integration platform. OSGi technology is the dynamic module system for Java OSGi technology is Universal Middleware. OSGi technology provides a service-oriented, component-based environment for developers and offers standardized ways to manage the software lifecycle. These capabilities greatly increase the value of a wide range of computers and devices that use the Java platform. Bundles and Services will be very important for CQ-developers panel persistence layer A special type of widget which acts as a form of container for other widgets. See Also widget. The persistence layer encapsulates the behavior needed to store objects in persistence mechanisms such as object databases, files, and relational databases. Page 10 of 16

The persistence layer is build by CRX. An Object Mapping is used so that the application can work with POJOs and does not need to care about loading from and storing to the repository. persistence manager Persistence refers specifically to the ability to retain data structures between program executions. Persistence managers are internal Jackrabbit components that handle the persistent storage of content nodes and properties. With them you can persist, update, delete, and retrieve objects from the datastore. See Also core/state/persistencemanager.html. persistence manager interface. POJO portlet publish environment regexp, Regular Expression resource-driven rendering Persistence managers are internal Jackrabbit components that handle the persistent storage of content nodes and properties. A persistence manager knows how to retrieve the persistent states of content items and how to atomically save a set of changes to the persistent state. Plain Old Java Objects. The Portlet specification defines a portlet as a Java-technologybased web component, managed by a portlet container that processes requests and generates dynamic content. The CQ5 environment which is made available to the visitors to your website. See Also author environment. Regular expressions form a method used to identify specific character sub-strings; for example within a URL. Content nodes and resources drive the rendering: Sling finds the appropriate ( closest-match ) content node for the incoming request. A property of the content points to a Sling rendering component. The component is used to render the output page, delegating part of the rendering to nested content objects. REST Representational State Transfer is a style of software architecture for distributed hypermedia systems such as the World Wide Web. The term was introduced in 2000 in the doctoral dissertation of Roy Fielding (chief scientist at Day Software), one of the principal authors of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) specification. It has since come into widespread use in the networking community. REST strictly refers to a collection of network architecture principles that outline how resources are defined and addressed. The term is often used in a looser sense to describe any simple interface that transmits domain-specific data over HTTP without an additional messaging layer such as SOAP or session tracking via HTTP cookies. These two meanings can conflict as well as overlap. It is possible to design any large software system in accordance with Fielding's Page 11 of 16

REST architectural style without using the HTTP protocol and without interacting with the world wide web. It is also possible to design simple XML+HTTP interfaces that do not conform to REST principles, and instead follow a Remote Procedure Call model. The two different uses of the term "REST" cause some confusion in technical discussions. RMI Java Remote Method Invocation. RMI applications often comprise two separate programs, a server and a client. A typical server program creates some remote objects, makes references to these objects accessible, and waits for clients to invoke methods on these objects. A typical client program obtains a remote reference to one or more remote objects on a server and then invokes methods on them. RMI provides the mechanism by which the server and the client communicate and pass information back and forth. Such an application is sometimes referred to as a distributed object application. servlet siteadmin SLF4J Sling Java Servlet technology provides Web developers with a simple, consistent mechanism for extending the functionality of a Web server and for accessing existing business systems. A servlet can almost be thought of as an applet that runs on the server side - without a face. Java servlets make many Web applications possible. The interface to the CQ5 authoring environment which enables users to input content and administrators to administrate the system. The Simple Logging Facade for Java, or SLF4J, is intended to serve as a simple facade for various logging APIs allowing to the end-user to plug in the desired implementation at deployment time. SLF4J also allows for a gradual migration path away from Jakarta Commons Logging (JCL). See Also Sling is a Web application framework based on REST principles that provides easy development of content-oriented applications. Sling uses a JCR repository, such as Apache Jackrabbit or Day CRX, as its data store. Sling is an implementation of the Component API consisting of several modules. This API is derived from the Portlet API specification, but extends it with some key functionality such as Persistence Abstraction, Content Centric Web Applications and Structured Page Layout. The core architectural features of Sling are as follows: The modules are implemented as OSGi Bundles. The functionality of Sling is glued together based on the OSGi Service Layer using Declarative Services to easily manage service registrations, configuration and reference tracking. Configuration is managed using the OSGi Configuration Admin Service. Page 12 of 16

Sling started as an internal project of Day Management AG and has been contributed to the Apache Software Foundation. It has been used as the foundation of the CQ5 WCM, and will be used for further CQ5 products from Day, including Digital Asset Management, CRX Explorer. See Also Sling Assembly Sling Bundle Sling META-INF/ MANIFEST.MF Social Collaboration An Assembly is a collection of bundles deployed together. The core unit of deployment is the Bundle. Is a file which contains specific headers identifying the bundle. Covers Social Networking and Collaboration functionality. It is a unification of all collaborative applications, including Wiki, Blog and Calendars for the CQ5 Platform. It is available standalone, as part of CQ5 and as an add-on to the Digital Asset Management System. SSO Tag Library Single Sign On. One single login for all applications throughout a complete network. A Tag Library is a collection of customs tags used within JavaServer Pages. A custom tag is the method of invoking any custom action, which are reusable realizations of tasks. Custom actions can be provided in addition to the 6 standard actions of any compliant JSP implementation and include tasks such as form processing, database access and amongst others. template In CQ WCM, a template specifies a type of page. Templates are a type of page consisting of a template definition file, script files, and a number of other files that describe what kind of content the template store. tool trackback tuple A programming or software tool is a program or application that software developers use to create, debug, maintain, or otherwise support other programs and applications. Trackbacks are a form of linkback that enable an author to track who is linking to their web content. A tuple (or n-tuple) is a fixed size collection of elements. Pairs, triples, quadruples etc. are tuples. In a programming language, a tuple is a data object containing other objects as elements. These element objects may be of different types. In mathematics, a tuple is a finite sequence (also known as an ordered list) of objects, each of a specified type. A tuple containing n objects is known as an n-tuple. For example the 4-tuple (or quadruple), with components of respective types PERSON, DAY, MONTH and YEAR, could be used to record that a certain person was born on a certain day of a certain month of a certain year. Tuples are used to describe mathematical objects that consist of specified components. For example, a directed graph is defined as Page 13 of 16

a tuple (V, E) where V is the set of nodes and E is a subset of V V that denotes the edges. The type of the first object is set of nodes and the type of the second is set of edges. URI A Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), is a compact string of characters used to identify or name a resource. The relationship between the URL, URI and URN can be shown as: Figure 2.1. Relationship between URI, URL, URN URL Uniform Resource Locator (URL), formerly known as Universal Resource Locator, is a technical, Web-related term used in two distinct meanings: In popular usage and many technical documents, it is a synonym for Uniform Resource Identifier (URI); Strictly, the idea of a uniform syntax for global identifiers of network-retrievable documents was the core idea of the World Wide Web. In the early times, these identifiers were variously called "document names," "Web addresses," and "Uniform Resource Locators." These names were misleading, however, because not all identifiers were locators, and even for those that were, this was not their defining characteristic. Nevertheless, by the time the RFC 1630 formally defined the term URI as a generic term best suited to the concept, the term URL had gained widespread popularity, which has continued to this day. URN WCM web.xml webapp A Uniform Resource Name (URN) is a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) that uses the urn scheme, and does not imply availability of the identified resource. Both URNs (names) and URLs (locators) are URIs, and a particular URI may be a name and a locator at the same time. Web Content Management system. See Also CQ5 WCM. A Deployment Descriptor (DD) component in Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition applications that describes how a web application should be deployed. It directs a deployment tool to deploy a module or application with specific container options and describes specific configuration requirements that a deployer must resolve. In software engineering, a Web application or webapp is an application that is accessed via web over a network such as the Internet or an intranet. Web applications are popular due to the Page 14 of 16

ubiquity of a client, sometimes called a thin client. The ability to update and maintain Web applications without distributing and installing software on potentially thousands of client computers is a key reason for their popularity. Web applications are used to implement Webmail, online retail sales, online auctions, wikis, discussion boards, Weblogs, MMORPGs and many other functions. workflow engine Controls and imposes defined workflows used to realize business processes appropriate to the web content. The functionality of the workflow will basically remain the same, but the workflow engine will now provide a well defined API. The new workflow engine will be based on the xflow2 project. It is adapted to use the JCR repository as persistence layer. See Also BPM. WWW World Wide Web. The World Wide Web is a collection of interconnected documents and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs. The World Wide Web is one of the services accessible via the Internet, along with various others including , file sharing, online gaming and others described in this glossary. XFlow XFlow2 µjax XFlow is a pure J2EE platform for building, executing and managing business processes and workflows. It is a basis for building collaborative applications as well as integrating processes across an enterprise. See Also Workflow Engine. The XFlow2 Process Management System is a separate extension of XFlow. See Also Workflow Engine. An alternative term for microjax. See Also microjax.. Page 15 of 16
