3 1 - Introduction The Personal Locator Device (or Personal Locator Service) industry is fairly new in the consumer market, but as most analysts agree, this is the beginning of a brand new industry with the potential for explosive growth due to the rapidly decreasing technology costs, which will allow consumers to afford and utilize a technology which was originally developed by, and for, the military in the 1970's. 1

10 5 GPStrack/GPSalarm description GPStrack, is an ios application designed to turn a mobile into a gps track and/or alarm system. The hall project has two main parts: 5 1 -Device Part: the iphone or ipad device supported with GPSalarm application which forms the data loger and data pusher of the tracking system. Features: A - It is written in Objective-c language using Xcode. The app file is only 1.6 Mb on disk and take only 0,5 Mb of the device memory space. B - The data transfer can be done throw GPRS, 3G, 4G or WIFI with very small packets. C - GPStrack can work in background. D - CPU and Memory utilization are wonderfully low, wich increases both the battery life and the functioning time. 8

15 5-1 - Server part It is the tool made to allow the user to access the data sent from the data loging and pushing device (iphone/gpsalarm) using any device with internet browser (PC, Smart phones, tablets, iwatch, PSP ) using PHP, MySQL, HTML tools. PHP: Is for receiving data from GPSalarm application and to push them back on the HTML file. MySQL: Is to store data on the server, to ensure the access any time by the admin of the server and by the user remotely on the map or on tables (tables not accomplished yet). HTML with java script : Using google map API allows the user to visualize locations direcly on google map with customised icons and push messages to show locations information. 11

17 Why GPStrack? 1 - Il can be offered with a very competitive prices, because the only long term cost for the investor is the server s cost. If the investor is a network provider then it is wonderfull. 2 - The user don t need extra hardwares to be installed. And he can enjoy other apps while using it. 14

19 4 - The user can interact with the application, by changing his status. For instance from driving a car into walking. Or changing a truck driver s name from Mohamed to Omar. Some trackers don t offer such features The User can use the application as an alarm system. When the stored position changes (longitude and/or latitude) GPSalarm makes a call for an emegency number, send s and like GPStrack send data to the server. 16

20 6 - GPStrack is flexible! By tying partnerships with other tracking hardware makers, it is possible to use only the server part of GPStrack project to get data from their devices. 7 - GPStrack benefits from APPLE technology of GPS service of their devices, thus getting a nice precision on both location and speed. It is worth to mention that some cheap tracking devices in the market have an error rate up to 50m on location precision. 8 - GPStrack is ALGERIAN! Such a sensitive field needs special care about security and privacy aspects, specially when used by Government (Police, army, frontiere police etc ). 9 - GPStrack is not limited with borders, its services can be offered abroad. 17

21 7 Weak spots of GPSalarm A - The efficiency depend on the network coverage. B - Like every system using electromagnetic signals (GPS, GSM, GPRS, 3G,4G and WIFI) it can be jammed, which is enoying when using it as an alarm system. But fortunately, GPSalarm can benefit from: Comercial anti jammers/jammers detectors systems 18

23 9 Perspectives and conclusion For the future versions of GPStrack, I am developing new options to minimize the impact of the weak spots mentioned above A - Adding a motion detection in the application, for instant alarm before the change of position. B - Adding a table view option on the browser with filter option. C - Adding microphone and camera records. D - Adding OBD connection to scan cars and get data at distance. Finally I worked and I am working to make GPStrack as a cheap, simple, flexible and rich tool for both companies and persons to Reduce labour costs with higher worker efficiency and less overtime.
