3 MESSAGE FROM Arup K. Sen, Ph.D. VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS Dear Colleagues, It is with great pleasure that I present the D Youville College Research and Scholarly Activity report. This has been a great year for the college and an exciting time to be part of our research, scholarship and innovation community. D Youville College follows a teaching and scholarship model that provides our faculty with significant opportunities to conduct meaningful research. Our faculty are making national and international accomplishments in their respective fields. This report recognizes the achievements of our faculty and a selection of their creative and scholarly work. They have published award-winning books and major scholarly articles and continue to engage in cuttingedge research in their fields of study. I am struck not only by the quantity of such scholarship, but also by its high quality and its range of disciplinary coverage. The college s reputation for academic excellence rests significantly on teaching, scholarship and service. As scholar-educators, D Youville faculty members mentor future generations of researchers by collaborating with students and sharing intellectual passion with them. Our faculty also engage in interprofessional research and the development of innovative approaches to teaching and learning experiences in educational settings made possible by grants obtained by our faculty from prestigious public and private foundations. As a community of scholars, we take time to celebrate the accomplishments of our colleagues. In this report, I wish to share with you the outstanding work of our faculty and while I look forward to presenting these scholarly activities, reviewing them simultaneously inspires and humbles me. Please join me in congratulating the faculty for their accomplishments and for their ongoing commitment to Educating for Life. Dr. Arup K. Sen Vice President for Academic Affairs 3
