Configuring your PC Windows 7 Enable File Sharing Windows File Sharing may not be enabled, especially if you don't have other computers on your network or this is the first time you have tried to access shared folders over your network. Use the following steps to enable it. 1. Launch Control Panel, under "Network and Internet" click "View network status and tasks". 2. On the left hand side, click the link "Change advanced sharing settings". 3. Select "Turn on network discovery". 4. Select "Turn on file and printer sharing". 5. Select "Turn on password protected sharing". We recommend using password protected sharing, but if you want people with no username or password to be able to access your files (only those files marked for 'Everyone' access), then set password protected sharing to "off". 6. Click "Save changes".

3 How to share a folder. 1. Select a folder in Windows Explorer, rightclick and choose "Properties" 2. In the Properties window select the "Sharing" tab. You should now see the window to the right. Click the "Advanced Sharing..." button. The window below should now appear. Tick "Share this folder" and then enter a Share Name that this folder will be known by on the network. By default, the folder will be shared for read-only access for the user who creates the share. If you wish to change this security, click the "Permissions" button and choose the level of access that you require.

4 Find Computer Name 1. Launch Windows Explorer. 2. In the left-hand pane, find the "Computer" node. 3. Right-click it and choose "Properties". 4. You should now have a window that looks like the following. 5. The text ringed in red is your computer name. 6. This will be the text to enter in the FileBrowser's "Name or Address" field.

5 Find your Username 1. Launch "Control Panel" 2. Click "User Accounts and Family Safety" Now click "User Accounts" 3. The user account you are currently accessing is highlighted on the right. If this is not the one you want to log in as, click "Manage another account" and select another. We recommend choosing one that has "Administrator" written under it. Enter your username into FileBrowser's "Username" field. 4. If the account you have chosen does not say "Password protected" under it, then it has no password. You need to click the "Create a password" option. Having a password will mean that you will need to enter it each time you boot your Windows PC. 5. Enter this password into FileBrowser's (but be careful when typing it because it is case-sensitive). And you should be connected... Windows XP Enable File Sharing Windows File Sharing may not be enabled, especially if you don't have other computers on your network or this is the first time you have tried to access shared folders over your network. If you select a folder in windows explorer, right click and choose "Sharing and Security..." and the window shown to the right appears, then file sharing is not enabled. 7 How to share a folder. You should now see one of the two windows shown below. Tick the box "Share this folder on the Network" and then enter a share name and click OK. Select "Share this Folder", enter a Share name and click OK.

8 Find Computer Name 1. Launch Windows Explorer. 2. In the left-hand pane, find the "Computer" node. 3. Right-click it and choose "Properties". 4. In the window that appears, left-click the "Computer Name" tab. You should now have a window that looks like the screenshot to the right. 5. The text ringed in red is your computer name. 6. This will be the text to enter in the FileBrowser's "Name or Address" field.

9 Find your Username 1. Launch "Control Panel" via the Windows Start menu. 2. If on the right-hand-side, the title is "Pick a category", do the following, otherwise go to step 3. Click the "User Accounts" link and on the following page click "User Accounts" in the lower section of the right-hand pane. This should bring up a new window showing all the users on your PC. Go to Step Double-click "User Accounts" and a new window should appear showing all the user accounts on your computer in the lower part of the window. 4. The Window that appeared (via either step 2 or step 3) should have a title of "Pick a task...". In the lower section of the window each account has an icon and 2 or 3 lines of text to the right of it. The first line is the username, and one of them should be familiar to you. We recommend choosing one that has "Computer administrator" written under it. Enter this first line into FileBrowser's Username field. 5. If the account you have chosen does not say "Password protected" under it, then it has no password. This is not essential for Windows XP, but is highly recommended. If it is blank, then in FileBrowser you will need to tap the "Blank" button on the Password field. If the account is password protected, then the password you enter in FileBrowser is simply your password, but be careful when typing it because it is case-sensitive. 6. If the account you chose does not say "Password protected" under it, you can create a password by clicking the user and on the following page, clicking the "Create a password" link and follow the instructions. Having a password will mean that you will need to enter it each time you boot your Windows PC. And you should be connected...
