3 Annual 2013 Conference: Improving the Lives of Older Adults Through Quality Interprofessional Care Historic Academy of Medicine Atlanta, GA Keynote Speaker: Jennie Chin Hansen, RN, MSN, FAAN Jennie Chin Hansen is CEO of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) and immediate past President of AARP. The AGS is the nation s leading membership organization of geriatrics healthcare professionals, whose shared mission is to improve the health, independence and quality of life of older people. In 2005, Hansen transitioned after nearly 25 years with On Lok, Inc., a nonprofit family of organizations providing primary, acute and long-term care community-based services in San Francisco. In May 2010, she completed her two-year term as President of AARP, in addition to the other six years she was on AARP s national board of directors. She also held a six-year term as a federal commissioner of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC). In 2010 she served as an IOM member on the RWJ Initiative on the Future of Nursing. Jennie has received multiple awards over the years including the 2003 Gerontological Society of America Maxwell Pollack Award for Productive Living, a 2005 Administrator s Achievement Award from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and an honorary doctorate from Boston College in Her recent awards include the Leadership Award of Excellence, New England Healthcare Institute in October 2010 and the 2011 Picker Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Patient Centered Care in Long Term Care. Dawn Aycock, RN, PhD Dawn Aycock is an Assistant Professor in the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing at Georgia State University. Dr. Aycock co-developed curriculum for the Mental Health in Aging course for interdisciplinary students at Georgia State University, which involves nursing, social work and gerontology programs. Patricia Clark, RN, PhD, FAHA, FAAN Patricia Clark is a Professor in the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing at Georgia State University as well as an Affiliate faculty member in the Gerontology Institute. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Medicine at Emory University. Dr. Clark co-developed curriculum for the Mental Health in Aging course for interdisciplinary students at Georgia State University, which involves nursing, social work and gerontology programs.
4 Carolyn Clevenger, DNP, GNP-BC Carolyn Clevenger is Interim MSN Program Director at Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. She is also a Special Fellow in Geriatrics at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. Dr. Clevenger helped to design Emory University s Senior Mentor program and provides faculty supervision for that program of students in nursing and medical programs. Katharina Echt, PhD Katharina Echt is Assistant Professor at Emory University in the Division of General & Geriatric Medicine. In addition, she is Investigator & Director for Education at the Atlanta Site of the Birmingham/ Atlanta VA Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center. Dr. Echt is a Research Scientist with the Atlanta VA Rehabilitation Research & Development Center of Excellence. She is Co-Investigator of the VA Integrated Management and Polypharmacy Review of Vulnerable Elders (Project IMPROVE). Jonathan Flacker, MD, AGSF Jonathan Flacker is Associate Professor at Emory University School of Medicine, Geriatrics and Associate Director for Resident/Student Education, Division of General & Geriatric Medicine. He is the co-founder and developer of the interdisciplinary Senior Mentor Program at Emory University. Dr. Flacker is also the Principal Investigator for Emory University Center for Community Partnerships Community Engaged Learning Initiative capacity building grant for the Senior Mentor Program. Ellen Idler, PhD Ellen Idler is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Emory College and the Department of Epidemiology in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Dr. Idler is also the Director of the Religion and Public Health Collaborative at Emory University, studying the effects of spirituality on health and health outcomes. She is the Co-founder and developer of the interdisciplinary Senior Mentor Program at Emory University and the Co-Investigator for the Emory University Center for Community Partnerships Community Engaged Learning Initiative capacity building grant for the Senior Mentor Program. Theodore M Johnson II, MD, MPH Dr. Johnson is a Professor of Geriatric Medicine within the Emory School of Medicine and holds secondary appointments as Professor in the Department of Urology and in the Rollins School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology, of Emory University. Dr. Johnson s directorships include: Director of the Division of General and Geriatric Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine; Director of the Emory Center for Health in Aging (Woodruff Health Sciences Center); Program Director of the Atlanta Regional Geriatric Education Center; and Atlanta Site Director of the Birmingham/Atlanta VA Geriatrics Rehabilitation, Education, and Clinical Center.
5 Lawanda Kemp, PharmD Lawanda Kemp is the clinical pharmacist in the Bronze Clinic, an outpatient geriatric clinic at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and also provides pharmaceutical care to patients enrolled in the Home Based Primary Care Program at the VA Medical Center. She is a Co-Principal Investigator of the VA Integrated Management and Polypharmacy Review of Vulnerable Elders (Project IMPROVE) clinical demonstration project. Anna Mirk, MD Dr. Mirk is Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine, Geriatrics and Assistant Medical Director at the Atlanta VA Medical Center Community Living Center. She is a Board Certified geriatrician with numerous professional leadership roles. Dr. Mirk is also a Co-Principal Investigator of the VA Integrated Management and Polypharmacy Review of Vulnerable Elders (Project IMPROVE) clinical demonstration project. Molly Perkins, PhD Molly Perkins is Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology. She is also an Investigator and the Atlanta Site Director for Research of the Birmingham/ Atlanta Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). Dr. Perkins is Co-Investigator of the VA Integrated Management and Polypharmacy Review of Vulnerable Elders (Project IMPROVE). Tom Price, MD, CMD Dr. Price is Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics. He is also Chief of Medicine at the Wesley Woods Center of Emory Healthcare. Dr. Price is a National Practice Change Fellow, sponsored by John A. Hartford and Atlantic Philanthropies Foundations. In addition, Dr. Price is the co-founder and medical directory of Emory-DeKalb Vulnerable Adults Living at Risk Invisibly (VALARI) program and serves as the Director for the Emory Center for Health in Aging s Task Force. Barbara Resnick, PhD, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP, AGSF Dr. Barbara Resnick is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the American Geriatrics Society. She is also Professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing in the department of Organizational Systems and Adult Health. Dr. Resnick is the Sonya Ziporkin Gershowitz Chair in Gerontology. Her recent primary interest of research, in which she is widely published, is health promotion through activity of older adults. Nimalie Stone, MD Dr. Stone is currently is a Medical Epidemiologist for Long Term Care for the Prevention and Response Branch of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is Board Certified in Infectious Disease. For the CDC, Dr. Stone led the development of an infection prevention training curriculum for nursing home providers in Georgia.
