1 Lighting & Air Conditioning Service in KTV Nowadays, KTV (Karaoke Box with Television) has become one of the most popular forms of entertainment in Asia. People can sing their favorite songs and enjoy interactive musical entertainment with family and friends at a KTV box. With the introduction of ICP DAS USA s automation and control technologies, KTVs are able to enhance the singing experience and increase added value to their services. System Description Lighting Control and Air Conditioning systems are very important for indoor entertainment like KTV boxes. Lighting Control creates a pleasant atmosphere and AC helps adjust room temperatures for customers. Lighting Control System A control panel with convenient one-click operation to meet various lighting requirements is in great demand. In the past, for lighting control, users had to perform multiple touches to manually adjust and turn on/off lights to get their desired effect for specific lighting requirement. Nowadays, as the requirements for lighting control are getting more sophisticated, people still prefer simplified all-in-one-touch operation. Air Conditioning System Unlike typical individual air conditioners used for general households, the air conditioning systems for large-scale applications such as commercial offices, buildings, shopping malls, etc. usually adopt a centralized-type of AC systems. To adjust air conditioning in a certain building regions of a centralized air conditioning system, temperature sensors are required to measure temperature and to control the valves in 3 major operations: Start/Stop the Switches, Adjust the Air Volume and Set Target Temperature. It used to be, that AC operations were done by turning on/off and adjusting the switches to control the air volume; these operations are done

2 by analog regulations; the user interface usually lacks clear guidance and it is difficult to configure the system. As integrated control systems panels with more intuitive interface designs for users to interactive with, the amount of operational tasks to run an AC system is greatly reduced. System Architecture In this system, the architecture is planned by carefully taking all requirements into consideration from an integrated view. Designs for communication connections and module selection are all planned by collected data based on the scale and needs. The type of communication protocol for this system is implemented by Modbus protocol. ICP DAS USA provides a wide range of Modbus modules to work with the Lighting Control and AC systems for KTVs. Smaller systems (subsystems) are more flexible because they can work independently while at the same time provide greater interconnectivity in terms of communication across different devices, thus making it more costeffective and energy-efficiency. This type of System Integration is more popular because they are separate, yet at the same time interconnected. The implementation of the KTV system is based on the subsystem concept. Each subsystem such as lighting control system, air conditioning system and service systems can function

4 independently and can communicate with each other. Under this distributed architecture, ISaGRAF PAC works as an agent controller for information exchange and for linking actions and communication between newly-added service and the original operations of the KTV system. A. Song Selection System Songs played on the KTV database are classified as 4 types: "bright", "soft", "romantic" and "dynamic". When a song is played, a signal will be sent to the lighting control system to launch the corresponding lighting control operations. B. Timing System The timing system can perform related operations in times when the room starts to serve customers. It also can automatically turn on the equipment in the box right before the customers enter the room. When the room is idle, the equipment can also be automatically turned off for energy saving. C. Cleaning Service System In the KTVs, dining carts and plates serve a special technological dining service. When a box requires cleaning service of the used plates, customers can position the dining cart and plates in a certain zone in the room. By infrared positioning and detection, a message for cleaning service can be automatically sent for immediate. D. Central Control System The Central Control System requires access to real time status of the room for efficient operations. Each private box may be far from the control center, and Ethernet is used for communications between the boxes and the Central Control System.

5 Summary In this KTV application, each Karaoke box is equipped with lighting control system, air conditioning system, service ring (service system) as well as other related services. In the original deployment, each service is independent from each other therefore they require an independent control interface (mounted on the wall) which can be challenging to operate and maintain at times for users. By using the ICP DAS USA s solution, all services can be integrated and operations can be linked, en-masse, to achieve higher performance. The resource and information can be shared, and the integrated data can be easily collected for further analysis and managed in various ways to improve productivity. The integrated touch screen HMI controller allows all control interfaces to be displayed as dynamic pages on a single touch screen; the operations is simple, intuitive, and efficient to bring customers a whole new better service and singing experience.
