1 PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION The School Board of Independent School District #2215 held its regular board meeting on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. in Twin Valley, MN. Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Hanson. Pledge of Allegiance. Members present: Douville, Opsahl, Nelson, Thronson, Stene, Hanson. Also present: Superintendent Lundin, High School Dean of Students- Cassandra Hoseth. Elementary Dean of Students -Pam Gunnerson, Brian Opsahl, Seth Schmitz, Randy Knutson, Mar jo Vik, and LaVon Olson. Motion by Stene, second by Opsahl, to approve agenda as Chairperson Hanson welcomed all visitors. Motion by Thronson, second by Douville, to approve the October 22, 2012 board minutes as District Contribution 1). Otter Tail Power ~ Rebate check of $4,374 for replacement of gym lights at elementary. Pine to Prairie No report Long Range Planning Report Discussion will take place at the December board meeting. Financial Reports/Approval of Bills Motion by Nelson, second by Stene, to approve the payment of checks #30440-#30523 as General $66, Food Service $11, Payroll $30, $107, Motion by Opsahl, second by Douville, to approve electronic transfers as

2 Audit Review Brian Opsahl of Brady Martz Certified Public Accountants presented the Audit to the board. Overall net assets increased and General Fund revenue exceeded expenses. Chairperson Hanson thanked Brian for his presentation. Election Results Results from the November 6, 2012 School Board Election were The following votes were cast. Tanya Hanson: 799; Mike Nelson: 823; Ross Opsahl: 872; Write-Ins: 30. Motion by Douville, second by Stene to accept the final votes as Elementary Dean of Students 1). Parent-Teachers Conferences went well. Board members participated and handouts and demonstrations were also available during this time. 2). Book Fair was held and $3,110 was raised. Had 9 volunteers and 108 books were given to the library, 77 to teachers and 285 gift certificates and prizes were awarded. 3). Elementary participated in the Veteran s Day Program held at the high school. 4). Staff members attended a workshop Attention Restart meant to get students up and moving more throughout the day. 5). Grades K-2 attended a play at MSUM. 6). PTO has met and sponsored a food drive Nov Grade 5 won with 178 items. 7). Student of the Month at elementary has a celebration called Step Out and Celebrate. High School Dean of Students 1). Parent-Teacher Conferences~ 41 parents attended for 21% of students re The A and B Honor Roll had 83 students for 57% of students on the Honor Roll. 2). GBB, BBB, Knowledge Bowl, One Act Play are all underway. Solo Music Contests were also held and our students did very well. 3). Veteran s Day program was held at the high school and streamed live on the school s website. 4). FCCLA Week will be observed and a dodge ball tourney is scheduled. Also, members are preparing for Regional Competition. 5). FFA members observed small animal day and large animal day and are sponsoring a Big Buck Contest. Also, Matt Johnson will be taking students to a Automotive Career Day in Detroit Lakes. 6). Several staff members and administration attended a Principal & Teacher Guidance and Evaluation Workshop. Superintendent Report 1). A Eagles Nest is being built in the gym for filming school activities. These activities will be streamed live on the school s website. Mr. Johnson s welding class is helping with this project. Some of the materials for this project were donated by Cory Hoseth. 2). Supt. Lundin has asked to have someone look at the insulation in the gym and see if something can be done to clean it up. 3). County-Wide Board Meeting was held and discussion was held on lack of interest in area Community Education Classes.

3 4). Jason Douville and Supt. Lundin will attend the MSBA Convention Jan. 17 th & 18 th. 5). Supt. Lundin attended the Blue Cross Blue Shield Health Incentive Program for employees who are enrolled in the VEBA program. This year a $240 stipend will be given to staff who participate in this preventive exam and are enrolled in VEBA.. There is no cost to our district. 6). North Central Bus has informed Supt. Lundin that all 4 buses being leased will be here on Nov. 29 th or 30 th. The leasing company is asking an attorney~ opinion of counsel~ to look over the leasing contract with them. 7). Overview of the elementary school roof has been finished and went well.
