1 itunes account not Australian This guide uses the "free app" trick to create a US based itunes account without the need to have a valid US credit card. If you do have a US credit card, then you don't really need this guide, as you can easily sign up to the US itunes store. This guide is for the rest of us who aren't so lucky! You will need the PC/Mac version of itunes for this trick to work, and it won't interfere with your existing Australian Apple account. This guide shows you how to get a US itunes account, and get all the free apps from the US store. Getting paid apps is a bit tricky, as you'll need to find a way to add credits to your US itunes account without a US credit card (or a US PayPal account). The steps in this guide will also work for signing up to the U.K itiunes store. Why do this? If you want to watch region-blocked TV, you need to download the relevant apps to watch the media. Eg NBC, Netflix. These are free apps. Of course, there are still some steps to go through before this actually works - Getting a VPN account will be required. itunes account not Australian - 1

2 Create a new Gmail account Use a different address that will be associated with your US itunes account. If you want to also setup a UK itunes account, then get a Gmail account for this too. Logout of your current itunes account I am demonstrating this using an Australian account, but the principle will work with any other country. 3 Change the Country in itunes, select the itunes Store. Change the country Scroll to the bottom of the page. Find the Australian flag and click on it. itunes account not Australian - 3

4 Select United states to access the US itunes Store Select the United States Normally, if you try to sign up now, you'll be forced to enter in details of a valid US credit card, or a valid US PayPal account. But if we use the free app trick, we can create a US account without the need to input any payment methods. The easiest way to do this is to go to the "App Store", and find a free app listed on the home page. itunes account not Australian - 4

5 Select a Free app Select a free app. Click "Free" Create your US AppleID This should open a new window asking you to sign in. Click on the "Create Apple ID" button. itunes account not Australian - 5

6 Signing up Proceed through the sign up process, use a real address, but not one that's associated with any existing Apple account. When you get to the payment screen, the "None" payment method should now automagically appear! Note that you'll need to enter a US based address. My recommendation would be to enter a real address, and I would start with perhaps the address of a hotel, a business - use your imagination! Select a State which does not have sales tax - See the image above. You'll now receive a verification sent to your entered address (hence why you needed a real address), open up the and click on the verification link, enter your new login details to verify your account. itunes account not Australian - 6

8 Sign in to verify your address Enter your details, click Verify Address and once that has occurred, you will click, Return to the Store. Success! If all goes well, your account is now ready to use. You can Start Shopping. itunes account not Australian - 8

9 Test it Out Download a free app to make sure your account works. You will need to sign back into the store. Here are ipad apps with the search: Movies. some of these will not work even if you have downloaded them becausde you will need a cable account. However, there are still many others which will work. Example: Netflix Search also for TV to get apps which let you watch American TV on your ipad Where is your App? Select Apps in itunes, then click All. 10 Changing to a different itunes store on the ipad You need itunes - either on your computer or on your ipad. Logout from your current itunes Store. On the ipad, open the itunes app, select the Music tab, scroll down to the bottom of that page, tap your apple ID and then tap, Sign Out. itunes account not Australian - 10

11 Sign in with your new US account Switch Stores Select OK to switch to the US itunes Store. You can retiurn to the Australian store by signing out of your US account and signing in with your Australian account credentials. itunes account not Australian - 11

12 Download apps If you downloaded an app whilst in itunes on the computer, you can download it to your ipad by opening the App Store app, selecting the Purchased tab and tapping the app to download it to the ipad. You could also transfer the apps to your ipad via itunes syncing. Download an app from the US itunes Store on the ipad Open the app Store app. Select the Featured tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You should see your US itunes account. Search for any free app and download it. itunes account not Australian - 12

13 Any app you download on the ipad will be synced to your computer when you are logged into your US itunes account in itunes on your computer Updating US itunes Store apps Select the Updates tab in the App Store app. Any app on your ipad that requires updating will appear here. You can only update your US itunes Store apps when you are logged in with your US account. itunes account not Australian - 13
