2 Guidance Notes for Applicants Please complete the application form to apply for this vacancy. You may send in a CV to support your application but you must still complete the application form in full. Proper completion of this form is an essential part of the selection process. Please ensure that you print clearly in black ink. Each Vacancy is based upon a job description and person specification. The job description lists the key responsibilities of the post. The person specification outlines the skills, knowledge, and experience, and qualifications etc, which are either essential or desirable. Please read the job description and person specification very carefully so that you know what the job involves and match your skills, abilities and knowledge to it. Should you wish to apply for this position via a secondment arrangement you must obtain written agreement from your current line manager. The completed application form must show that you meet all the essential criteria. To make sure we treat all applicants fairly, we do not make assumptions about you, and we only look at what you tell us about yourself in the application form. Please make sure you return your application form by the closing date. No applications will be accepted once the closing date has passed. The procedure after the closing date for applications has passed is as follows:- HR Admin ensures that all application forms are sent (without the equal opportunities monitoring forms) to the appropriate line manager within the recruiting department to shortlist. The shortlisting will be based on the information provided in the application form and any supplementary documents provided. Each applicant is assessed against the criteria for appointment. The short-listed candidate will be contacted and asked to attend for interview. They will be advised any special arrangements such as tests or presentation for the interview day. Candidates will be advised of the result as soon as is practicable after the interview. Where possible the Council will use correspondence and a letter will also be posted to the shortlisted candidate as part of the recruitment process.

3 Stratford on Avon District Council JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Desktop Support Assistant Service: Customer Access Directorate: N/A Post No: CHP315 Grade: M Responsible to: Principal Infrastructure and Communications Officer Responsible for: None Key Objectives: 1 To work within the ICT support team providing first line IT support to all ICT Users as required Principal Duties and Responsibilities: This job description is not exhaustive and the post holder may be asked to carry out other tasks and duties as directed by their line manager. To assist in resolving technical problems, keeping staff informed of the status of their request and escalate support requests where necessary. To acting as first point of contact for customer queries and prioritising all calls and job requests as per the service standards. To assist in installing, configuring and upgrading personal computers, network components, mobile devices, peripheral equipment and associated software as required. To maintain an up to date inventory of IT equipment and software, updating location of existing equipment whenever necessary. To assist with managing and maintaining the ICT pool of equipment including the booking of the equipment and provisioning of the equipment. To be aware of your responsibilities in terms of health and safety, including identifying at your appraisal, appropriate health and safety training. 7 To ensure that you approach your duties taking into consideration the principles of Best Value 8 To undertake any other duties, appropriate to post and grade, as may be assigned

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Education and Qualifications 1 Experience and Abilities 2 Knowledge and skills 3 Essential 4 GCSE's or equivalent, including English and Mathematics A practical person, with some previous experience with computers and computer based systems including Windows, word processing, databases and spreadsheets. Microsoft Office. Sound keyboard skills. Knowledge of PC hardware and MS office based software. 1 Desirable Studying for a further / higher education IT qualification 2 Apple mac computer experience 3 Knowledge of Local Government Aptitude and Disposition 4 Smart, polite, enthusiastic and conscientious. 5 6 Able to show initiative and to prioritise workloads. Able to move around a restricted computer room and be able to carry and move ICT hardware and install PCs which will involve working in restricted areas, ie, under desk cabling and in the ICT network cabinets rooms which have limited floor space and access. The Council s flexi-time scheme applies. 4 weeks 23 workings days, rising to 27 working days after five years continuous service in Local Government. The leave year will begin the month you commence employment In addition, there are 8 public holidays which are Bank Holidays. On top of these days the Council grant three extra statutory days during the Christmas period. 6 month probation period for all new employees.
