3 The Victorian Training Guarantee Vocational education and training is a great way to gain a nationally recognised qualification that will improve your ability to enter the workforce or enhance your career or job prospects. Securing Jobs for Your Future Skills for Victoria is a Victorian Government initiative to reform and refocus the training system to best meet the needs of those who depend on it. Launched in August 2008, the policy is giving Victoria a better vocational education and training system to meet the challenges of and opportunities for the future. The policy establishes the Victorian Training Guarantee as an entitlement to a government subsidised place in recognised training for all Victorians. This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Governments funding. If you are seeking qualifications apart from what you have gained from school, or want to get a higher qualification than what you already have, these changes can help you. All our programs have been carefully planned and designed as a result of our team s ability to listen, assess and assimilate the needs expressed by our students. This has been a result of our staff encouraging all students to give their own feedback on the services provided, as well as voicing their own ideas and needs. We realise that each individual s needs are different and that flexibility is required in delivering courses that help the individual reach their own goals. 4 Eligibility Requirements To be eligible, an individual must meet Victorian Training Guarantee requirements as follows: (a) (b) An individual must be: (i) An Australian citizen; or (ii) A holder of a permanent visa; or (iii) A New Zealand citizen; And An individual must enrol and commence training in a course or qualification provided by the RTO between the later of 1 January 2015 or when the VET Funding Contract is executed, and 31 December inclusive and be; (i) Under 20 years of age (as at 1 January in the year of commence ment of training) and seeking to enrol in nationally recognised training; or (ii) Over 20 years of age (as at 1 January in the year of the commencement of training) and seeking to enrol in nationally recognised training in a Foundation Skills List course; or (iii) Over 20 years of age (as a 1 January in the year of the commencement of training) and seeking to enrol in nationally recognised training as an Apprentice (not Trainee); or (iv) Over 20 years of age (as at 1 January in the year of commencement of training) and seeking to enrol in training in the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Intermediate or Senior; or (v) Over 20 years of age (as of 1 January in the year of commencement of training) and seeking to enrol in nationally recognised training in a course that is at a higher qualification level than the highest qualification held at the time of the scheduled commencement of training. Determining the number of courses in which an individual is eligible to enrol in 2015 (i) An individual is eligible to enrol in and commence a maximum of two government subsidised courses in (ii) An individual is eligible to undertake a maximum of two government subsidised courses at any one time in Introduction of a lifetime limit of two (2) commencements at the same qualification level the 2 at level limit. For all enrolments on or after 16 June 2014, individuals accessing the Victorian Training Guarantee will only be eligible to commence a maximum of two courses/ qualifications at the same Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level in their lifetime. Individuals will also only be eligible to commence a maximum of two accredited courses with the tittle Course in in their lifetime (excluding courses on the Foundation Skills List).

7 Our Services Our programs offer opportunities to assist you in the development of your skills and knowledge in your chosen career pathway, which will increase your opportunity to access employment. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply. We can discuss career options and opportunities with you. What Will It Cost To Enrol? You are required to pay an Enrolment Fee of $100, this fee will secure your place in the course of your choice. This fee must be paid prior to, or at Enrolment. Your enrolment is not valid until these fees have been paid. The enrolment fee covers the following: Material Fee a material fee of $64. The materials fee relates to goods or materials that become the property of the student and is retained by them in the event of withdrawal from the course. This fee includes cost of handouts and other relevant material supplied by the service. There are no concessions for materials fees. Student Support Fee a student support fee of $36 is charged to all students. This fee is charged to cover the use of computers and the provision of Student and administration support. Tuition: Fees will need to be paid within 3 months of the commencement of your training. All our courses/programs are also offered on a Fee for Service basis for those students who are not eligible for a Government Funded Training Place, in the qualification of their choice. Encompass must sight a copy of your concession card on enrolment for you to receive a concession on fees. Course dates and times are subject to change without notice

8 Course dates and times are subject to change without notice Please note: First Aid is offered as an additional unit at a cost of $150 for enrolled students. First aid is a required component of placement for Certificate III in Aged Care and Home and Community Care, and Certificate IV in Disability. First Aid can be sourced privately, but must be current at the time of the placement. Information and Enrolment: Our website has a Register of Interest form, which we ask that you complete and return to our office either personally, or via to rto@encompass-cs.org.au. Alternatively, you can call our office on and we will discuss your options with you. Our training programs are interactive and engaging. Student handouts, PowerPoint presentations and industry experts and/or speakers will form part of your course. If required, we also provide literacy and numeracy support to assist you in the successful completion of your course or qualification. Assessment A range of different types of assessment tasks for each unit studied will ensure that we are able to collect enough evidence to make a reliable judgment about your competency. At the beginning of each unit, you will be informed of the context and the purpose of the assessments required for the unit and the processes that will be used. Induction Encompass College of Education and Training advise that the first timetabled day of each program will be an induction session. Courses are also available on a Fee for Service Basis; please contact our office on for further information.

11 Disability Services Disability Support Worker: A disability worker provides personal, physical and emotional support to people with a disability who require assistance with daily living. They provide assistance with showering, dressing and eating, and often facilitate or assist with outings and other social activities. The level of assistance provided will depend on the ability and health of the client. Care may also include assistance with selfmedication and arranging activities to enhance the client s physical, emotional and intellectual development. Disability workers need: to be physically fit and be able to lift heavy objects to have a supportive and caring nature to have good communication skills to have patience, flexibility and understanding, and to have the ability to work as part of a team. Disability workers provide care either in peoples own home, or in a residential care setting. They are often expected to carry out their work in rostered shifts and may be expected to work weekends and at night. Sometimes, disability workers may be required to live with their client. They carry out their duties under direct or regular supervision, and within clearly defined care plans or organisational guidelines. A disability worker usually works with clients who require assistance with daily tasks and activities. This can include the use of equipment such as hoists or swivel cushions. 12 Aged Care & Home and Community Care Aged Care/HACC Workers: An aged care worker provides personal, physical and emotional support to older people who require assistance with daily living. They provide assistance with daily tasks such as showering, dressing and eating. Often, they also assist with outings and social activities. The level of assistance provided will depend on the ability and health of the client. Aged Care/ HACC workers provide care either in a client s home or in a residential care setting. They carry out their duties under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined care plans or organisational guidelines. Aged Care workers need to: have a caring and supportive attitude have patience, discretion and a high evel of professionalism have good communications skills be physically fit and be able to lift heavy objects, and be committed to the rights of elderly people. Aged care/hacc workers may be required to work evenings, weekends and rostered shifts. Their work may include carrying out some supervised medical tasks, such as changing dressings or administering medications. An Aged Care/HACC worker also needs to be aware of any changes in their client s physical or mental health such as increased discomfort, loss of mobility, hearing or sight loss, signs of depression or anxiety, and report these to their supervisor. They need to also be on the lookout for any safety hazards that may pose risks to themselves, staff and their clients. Course dates and times are subject to change without notice

13 Community Services Community Service Work This Certificate IV in Community Service Work will provide you with the skills and competencies to work in the Community Welfare Sector both in government and non government organisations. Community Service Workers enable clients to identify their skill base, feel empowered and make informed decisions. A community services worker also provides support and guidance in areas related to the social, emotional, psychological and practical needs of the client/s. A Community Services Worker also develops a sound knowledge base of community networks in order to make appropriate referrals for clients to specialised community welfare agencies. Currently Community Service Workers work in the following fields of community work which include the youth sector, family violence, homeless, aged care, disability, mental health, youth justice, drug and alcohol. 14 Production Horticulture Production Horticulture You will be provided with skills and knowledge to assist you to enter the workforce or to participate in further training. The focus is on providing the participant with skills and knowledge that may assist in developing your goals which may be about job choice, further study, literacy, numeracy, or training and practical work placement experiences.
